@@molliee5183 ray bearer by Jordan Ifueko - African fantasy . Unique magic , fast paced , short.
Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend - middle grade series that captures the wonder of Harry Potter and does it in a much better story, imo.
mistborn by Brandon Sanderson - sort of fantasy heist novel at first, becomes more than that after book 1.
shadow of the gods by John Gwynne - Norse inspired, son kidnapped. Mother chasing after the kidnappers.

I've always asked myself how can book influencers read so much having other jobs and things to do, and how do they not get burnt out of how much different storys and characters have they known in such a short time. So I understand how you're feeling but you dont need to talk about 6 or more books in a wrap up to make it interesting!! i would love to see a deeper talk about 3 books sometimes. And its funny because book influencers reading so much makes us - the suscribers - feel pressure or guilty of not reading that much, and it's not your fault obviously but it's a vicious cycle of seeing our reading as a number

Don’t stress out on how many books you feel you “should” read. I would rather you read a few books that you throughly enjoyed and share those with me. Life has enough stress in it to add “ mandatory “ reading into it when you already have that for school.

Historical fiction recommendation: The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. Set in Norway in 1617, premise is that a remote Norwegian island is hit by a storm that kills all the men, leaving the women to fend for themselves and the story is about them 🌊 the writing is gorgeous and the characters are super engrossing and believable

Solidarity over here with the over-saturation / struggle with reading this April! For me the stress of life has affected my reading a lot. I'm not a content creator, but I do track my reading too. I've needed to slow down and enjoy the experience more just like you mentioned. Similarly as well, the books I found most joy in aren't the ones I'm enjoying at the moment. I'm proud of you for leaning in to what's working. Awesome work!!

I like to think of reading as a form of consuming entertainment on par with watching tv or movies because it is a form of enjoyment and self care. I would never be mad at myself for “watching less television” and doing some other form of self care or just acknowledging that I am bored with TV at the moment. So I try to look at reading the same way! Also, there is a variety of book content that can be made without having to read new books! I love your reading vlogs even if they are short! Also, when you compile lists of books for certain moods/genres! We just love you and want you to enjoy your form of self care

The best book I read this month was Natasha Sholl's memoir called Found, Wanting. It's a memoir about grief, as it begins when her partner dies suddenly when she's only 22. It deals with heavy subjects but at the same time it talks about life, its mundanity, its highs and lows... and the writing was also so beautiful. I higly recommend it !!

Hey Noelle, I feel you! I hate the pressure to read a great quantity of books a month and that’s the reason why I stopped watching book tube even though I love it so much. I probably had a 7 month break and that’s when I found my love for reading again. I’m currently reading “Midnight Library” by matt Haig and love it so far:). I also feel sometimes that I “have to read” certain (hyped) books in order to be a part of society or I’m the one missing out on something, which is bullshit obviously! I only have one life and don’t want to spend it reading books that I’m certainly not interested in...

The Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier is a slow-paced but absolutely delectable historical fiction.I read it as a teenager and it's the novel that made me fall in love with historical literature. Because it takes place in Holland of the seventeenth centurie and is inspired by the Vermeer's most famous painting, the book is so atmospherical and picturesque. I just loved the pages that simply described Vermeer's atelier, space, light, colours, etc. It was just so mesmerizing to read. Anyways, I hope that this little suggestion will get to you! Have fun:))

The romance is so well built and it deals with memories, book binding, forbidden love etc. My favourite historical fiction is the Aubrey & Maturin series. I don't think it's your thing but it's 21 books long and it's some of the best writing and characters I've ever read, they are so real. My favorite: Heartstopper through all volumes currently release. I haven’t read something so lighthearted and sweet in a while so it was a nice change of pace.
My least and probably my 2022 albatross: The Sound and the Fury by Faulkner. I’ve never read Faulkner but felt up to the challenge in March. I then lost that drive so it’s been sitting in my Libby, with me being too stubborn to DNF

I have definitely related to that numbers game vibe in the past - I don’t make book content but I am a literature major who has always loved reading to the point where I used to finish a book maybe every 1 or 2 days 💀 when I started studying in college I lost my love for reading and literally just stopped leisure reading for a year then I came back to it because I dropped out of college and did nothing (reenrolled after remote learning ended because I have adhd and had to deal with it 🫠) and then I suddenly stopped caring about how many books I was reading and just picked up what sounded good. I don’t finish what I don’t want to and I don’t stress if I put down a book to pick up 3 months later. I’ve somehow read more within these past 4 months than I have in 4 years without realizing. I think it’s natural to get tired of reading if you do it all the time even if the books are bangin and sometimes a break from a genre or even from the activity altogether can make someone remember why they fell in love with it in the first place but that’s just what I think 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m excited to read the historical fiction recs here. First, please don’t feel you need to read a ton of books a month! I sit with my Goodreads open while watching your videos and love whatever you talk about. For historical fiction, I LOVED Where the Lost Wander by Amy Harmon. The Alice Network was also really enjoyable. Both five stars for me. Memoirs - Finding Freedom: A Cook’s Story; Remaking a Life From Scratch. And finally, you’ve probably read it already but Mary Jane was awesome.

I'm not sure if you've read these before but these are some of my favourite historical fiction reads that I recommend with my whole heart: Burial Rites by Hannah Kent (imagines the story around a famous event in Icelandic history, the murder conviction and execution of Agnes Magnúsdóttir in 1829), Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín (tender tale of a young Irish woman in 1950s Brooklyn) Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (moving generational saga) and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (unique perspectives on WW2)

I recently read "The Gown: A Novel of the Royal Wedding" by Jennifer Robson. I randomly found it on sale in Santa Barbara public library and bought it for 50 cents. It has the intergenerational story with seamstresses in the center of it that created royal gown for Queen Elizabeth, so post world-war 2 era! A really good read!

if you wanna read more historical fiction you should read the island by vicoria hislop . heres the good reads description : On the brink of a life-changing decision, Alexis Fielding longs to find out about her mother's past. But Sofia has never spoken of it. All she admits to is growing up in a small Cretan village before moving to London. When Alexis decides to visit Crete, however, Sofia gives her daughter a letter to take to an old friend, and promises that through her she will learn more.
Arriving in Plaka, Alexis is astonished to see that it lies a stone's throw from the tiny, deserted island of Spinalonga - Greece's former leper colony. Then she finds Fotini, and at last hears the story that Sofia has buried all her life: the tale of her great-grandmother Eleni and her daughters and a family rent by tragedy, war and passion. She discovers how intimately she is connected with the island, and how secrecy holds them all in its powerful grip.. hope you like it

Hey Noelle! Considering your interest in reading memoirs and your recent trip to Paris, as well as your good experience with The Paris Bookseller, I recommend you to read "Shakespeare and Company", the memoir that Sylvia Beach wrote about creating her bookshop in Paris. I loved this book because it talks a lot about books, but also it talks a lot about American authors that moved to Paris during the lost decade, such as Fitzgerald and Hemingway.

You describe reading fatigue perfectly! I completely relate. Thankfully, "Stealing Home", the first book in the "Sweet Magnolias" series, has helped me enjoy reading again. Less numbers, more getting lost in the story of a well written book. :) I am glad you are coming out of your reading fatigue, too. I hope you find rest and relaxation in your upcoming reads. :)

If you love generational stories, one of my personal favorites is The House at the Edge of Night by Catherine Banner and it’s a great summer read as well. It takes place on an island right off the coast of Italy and follows one guy and his family through the course of both World Wars and into the 21st century so it has some historical fiction elements. It was just really good to watch someone create a whole life and family from nothing and the audiobook is also really good!

I’ve also read The Woman Warrior and it’s an amazing book but the end of it has a lot of ableism towards an autistic boy she knows. It’s a complicated part of the narrative that does serve a purpose, and definitely not a reason to skip it, but I was just blindsided with how cruel it is to him so wanted to give a warning. When I read it for a class though, other students didn’t even really notice it until it was pointed out so it may just be me.
