Slow Living and slowing down to me is living life with purpose. I purposely try and enjoy time with my tea and devotions in the morning. I purposely schedule time in my day to just sit, relax, breathe, enjoy a hobby or reading. Sometimes it is to make a loaf of bread or bake something. It isn't on a to do list, just something I want to do with purpose!

Love love love. I said "No" twice this week. My absolute priorities for every day are: 1. Morning prayer, 2. Making healthy food for the day. 3. A workout that I do in my own personal gym. 4. To read and learn 1 thing, 5. To meditate and stretch and pray my Rosary. God bless you both

Did you ever read the book "Pursuit of His Presence" by Brother Lawrence? It helped me a lot - no more "prayer time" because basically I'm talking to my Heavenly Father all the time in my heart. I'm also acutely aware of his presence now and that he's helping me in whatever I'm doing or if I'm just sitting doing nothing. I'm not busy anymore just doing what needs to be done with His help. It's so awesome!

Slowing down means no appointments, prayer time, not rushing to make my bed if at all ,napping when I feel like it and watching you tube as much as I want. Don't buy a food processor at this stage of life. Too much to clean. I'm all for easy at 79. I learn something new every day from cooking to brain surgery on you tube. My time's my own.

In the book, "Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" (which I recommend to EVERYONE), the author makes this statement: "Busyness is violence to the soul". This knocked me off me feet the first time I read it. The second time I read it it spoke so deeply to my soul and gave me the courage to SLOW down. I have been blessed without measure since doing this and am filled with gratitude everyday. I am surely grateful for Em and Paul for this channel. We have never met but I feel that we are family. God bless you always as you continue to bless all of us.

This was a very encouraging video for me. I am a mom, and my son's dad and I divorced several years ago. We get along fine, but he and his wife make significantly more money than I do, and so naturally do a lot more fun things that are costly (lots of out-to-eat, lots of vacations, lots of shopping, etc). Sometimes, it's hard not to compare what I can give to my son versus what they can. But I have to remind myself that the steady, quiet, at-home days we spend are just as important as the times of going out or going on trips, and just because I make less money doesn't mean that our experiences together are any less meaningful. Thank you for making me feel "normal" with this video.

Hello, Dolls! I so appreciate your efforts to encourage. If you were several hundred miles to the south< I feel like we would be best buddies :) Retirement came upon me suddenly due to a catastrophic illness. After being in bed for 6 months, a wheel chair for another six months, and a walker- now cane_ for the last 8 months- I was literally forced to a stop so slowing down as compared to the old me- now gives me great pleasure. I take care of my home and gardens, cook real food from scratch, and have time to be creative, hang with my grands, and do all the things that were on my "when I have time list". Every task seems like it takes me three times longer than it would have in the old days but I appreciate everything I can do and and am thankful every day for the time to do it!

My family phone always asking what I am doing where have I been what are my plans for the weekend and seem to worry if I don't have answers for them. .
Hopefully they will come to realise in life we don't need all this 'Doing.'
Something I heard once. 'Sometimes I just sit and think, other times I just sit.'
      Love it.
Regarding saying 'No.' I think it is the greatest gift you can gift yourself. But the difference between you and I is I don't apologise before saying it, unless of course it was something I would want to do but am unable to.
      I enjoyed this video. Thanks.

Thanks for another great video. I always bought my lunch on Thursday when the cafeteria had sloppy joes. Not until about 3 years ago did I make sloppy joes truly homemade. I had always thought I needed a sloppy joe mix or Manwitch seasoning. It is now one of my family’s favorite dinners. My 5 important things each day are : spend time in prayer, plan for the dinner meal made at home, use kindness and gratitude with abundance, learn something new each day and practice one of my creative hobbies: sewing, reading, cooking, crochet. It is much easier to slow down when I don’t have to work outside the home. Being retired has allowed me to slow down and take the time to exercise, cook, play and even nap as I wish.

About 5 years ago, my (grown) kids insisted that I needed a blender and a food processor, so I bought both. I have yet to use either one. I just don't like having to drag the appliances out, wash all the parts, and put it all away again. Using my hand grater or a knife works fine for me, and it's a LOT easier to clean. Personally, I wouldn't bother to buy either appliance again, but maybe you would use it more than I do. I'm going to try your sloppy Joe mix. Looks delicious!

I think when we are always rushing we can't take time to 'smell the roses', thus our brain is always in fight or flight mode. That triggers the need for a constant adrenaline rush and a lot of people get that rush from shopping for unnecessary stuff.
Take a breath , slow down and that feeling will pass. You will save money and be so proud of yourself.

    My no waste meal today:
One bell pepper, cut horizontally, removed the ribs and seeds.
Rub the inside with olive oil, salt, pepper and bake for about 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and discard the water inside the pepper.
I stuff both sides of the pepper with leftover brown rice with ground beef.
I topped each side with leftover cheddar cheese and baked for about 15 minutes.
    Delicious!!!!!

This video reminds me to continue to live at a pace that is comfortable for me. Years ago I was friends with my moms friend who was older and wise. We've tried to move our life in the direction of slower living. We want a life rich with peace, happiness, and contentment. It's been a bit of a struggle in that not everyone around us understands why we want to live this way. We are definitely not living status quo and it seems to disturb some people close to us.
We have pared our recurring bills and expenses down to a minimum. Our entertainment is simple. We try to rest more. We appreciate the things that we truly enjoy and try to weed out the things that steal our peace...as much as possible, anyway. Even our meals are more simple. We don't need a 4 course meal every day.
Thanks for the great video! God bless!

Watching the ducks chooks & cat. I’ve had to slow down after a fall in the garden - getting a full hip replacement in a couple of weeks. I set myself a challenge today to walk across the park with my walker which hopefully I won’t need in a few weeks. My challenge after the operation will be to walk to the beach as it will be over six weeks before being allowed to drive after the op. On the way back I met a group of teenagers. One I heard say “ Hello Luvvie!” So I started talking to them & told them I would be a bionic woman soon with titanium hip & would be donating my old bone so others can have their knees repaired or kids with Scoliosis can have an operation to straighten & repair their back. They seemed happy with that, then headed off for an afternoon at the beach in school holiday time. I used to be a high school teacher which I loved so meeting those young people made my day, who I would not have met if I hadn’t attempted to venture out on a sunny day walk with my wheelie walker. :)☺🌱🌳🌿🦽

I was forced into slow living because of health. Also going back to Italy. There there work from 7am to noon then everything closes until 4pm to 8pm and they do dinner at 9pm. I adjusted and it became easy going.
Next, I was always into relaxation audio. And anything for well being. I have also stopped having music and tv in background if I cook, or bake.
I wish I could find a garlic press like yours. I have had no luck!
I pined over a food processor since being a teen watching cooking shows. 1 minute pie crust? 1 minute pasta dough? chopped in seconds? YES. If I could afford one, I would have gotten one for prepping and efficiency. Also grating cheeses and breadcrumbs, you can be more productive.
Its amazing how u can make a simple meal and everyone is happy.

    2. Resting my lymphedema leg in an elevated way so gravity helps the swelling go down.
    3. Getting through the mail and paying bills
    4. Keeping my cat well fed and hydrated, plus entertained and happy.
    5. Keeping enough food in the house.
As for keeping busy, I've always been a "Mary" between Martha, who was busy with a lot of things, and Mary, who sat at the feet of Christ and listened to Him.
Now, because of my health, I'm forced to go slowly with everything I do. I do manage to get some things done, but I get so exhausted so fast, that I don't get a lot done.

Send some of your rain to Texas. All the cornfields near me are completely burned up. It’s awful.
And, slowing down to me means only 1 major project at a time. Like I had mentioned, after clearing out my Mother’s home in 2014, & then my sister’s in 2017, I did not want my children to have to go through that major task. So I’ve given them everything that they wanted, and I am now slowly downsizing myself. Our kids and grandkids don’t want our things. They have their own tastes. I wish I had discovered the book, The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning before I had to clear out my mother’s and my sister’s homes. But at least this will help my children.

Loved hearing the rain. Where I live we don't get much rain. I have a hard time slowing down during the day. I'm always doing some house projects. Around 6:30 after dinner and the dishes are done I like to relax. Most nights, it's watching a game show and crocheting. Some nights, it's my husband and I playing a card game. I was always really busy taking care of my mother-in-law, but she recently passed away. I'm trying to learn to slow down now that I am not a full-time caregiver. I started enjoying early morning walks with my dogs. I'm having a hard time remembering I don't have to give my mother-in-law a bath, her medications, and feed her. Til today "Slow living" looks like a dream, I have ever dreamed. But I will put this step by step in my life now, I have to. I love beeing creative, you know this, but at the end of the day, every day, I get no rest. My days end always in the late evening and next morning I have to go to work (20,5 hours a week). I have my wonderful garden and there is too much I have to/should to preserve. But I cannot do it all. Today I harvested 7 kg of black current. Normally I would can them, make juice and jelly of them. But today we have 86 f, so I freeze them all. I can make the juice and jelly another time when it is not so hot here. Your video was very important for me. Thank you! ❤

I'm looking forward to making those sloppy Joe's for my family. They look delicious. If you haven't missed having a food processor by now, I don't think you need one.😊 I liked the last name of your first winner. So appropriate to the weather you were experiencing. Slow living for me is eating dinner in my screened in porch and listening to the birds and watching the rabbits hopping around. It's so relaxing for me after a long day at work.

Sloppy Joes and coleslaw look yummy! Slowing down is essential for spiritual and physical health! We take it very seriously! We pick and choose what we want and when we want to do it. If neither of us feels quite up to it, we change plans. When I was in the workforce it was non stop for at least 12 hrs a day, then come home cook and clean. Weekends was more of the same. NO MORE!
Stay safe with all that crazy weather and flooding going on back east! Hugs and prayers going out to you.

I have a food processor but I usually just use my chef’s knife to finely cut up whatever it is. Food processor is a great blender I guess but I have a stand mixer for that. People get along fine without a food processor - and they aren’t cheap. Each to his own, though.

Congratulations again on your 50K and to the winners of the drawing! All of your food looked delicious and home-cooked meals like that are very special. Your tips for how to slow down and enjoy are wonderful. Keeping priorities in mind and why we have them is very helpful when faced with invitations by others or even our own temptations to go somewhere, buy something, or spend time doing things not as important to us at this time. Our five are: 1. time with God - reading Bible and prayer, 2. Family/friends - spending time together and talking to each other without TV and other distractions, 3. Decluttering and organizing to make home easier to keep well now and for kids when we're gone, 4. time outside sitting or in garden, and 5. Hobbies - me: planners/junk journals, photos, ancestry and hubby: tinkering in garage and going fishing with our son. Thank you for continuing to be an encouragement and share ways to enjoy life without overspending. God bless you both. 🙏🙏💕💕

When you got to the spices and the Worcestershire Sauce on that lovely plate, my heart jumped. That’s “my” dinnerware! My Gramma had a few odd pieces when I was growing up. It was so beautiful. One day I was randomly thrift shopping and there it was. . . A whole set, minus the serving pieces. Straight from some estate sale. Donated, Unwanted. . . Until the moment I saw it. But I didn’t buy it that day. I wanted it but couldn’t justify it. So I went home, slept on it, and still wanted it. So I told myself if it’s still there, it’s meant to be. It was. For $25, I brought it home, washed all the pieces by hand, thought about the woman who used this set every day. Thought about the family dinners during the week, the birthday cake served on those plates, the simple meals prepared, the tears she cried over a cup of tea or coffee with a friend or sister. Thought about how she lovingly carefully she washed and dried each piece. I went back in time. And my life slowed to a better pace. And a better place. The mold is Homer Laughlin, Virginia Rose, the painted design which I believe to be the most beautiful on earth is Fluffy Rose. Somehow I just knew you would love this too. I use mine everyday. Every day. For two years now. I might as well, no one else will want it when I’m gone. I broke one small bowl but I didn’t cry. I thought, it broke while it was being used. That’s as good as it gets. Retired the modern dishes. Love the memories, the good vibe, the slow moments that follow. Thanks for sharing and showing that lovely plate. I knew we were kindred spirits.

Maintaining friendships with folk who like to spend on luxury experiences and/or eating out frequently is something I find difficult. I prefer to find simple local activities where I can, take along picnics. Living frugally is dfficult to do if one spends considerable time with those who do not share a similar lifestyle and habits. Making or buying materials to make gifts ahead of need works for me, I often put gifts away for future birthdays and Christmases, especially when it comes to age appropriate items for my little grand-daughter. I often find free children's books a the thrift store and give her a few at each visit.

Hi Emmy and Paul! I have recently subscribed to your channel and absolutely love it! Like you, Emmy, I’m a baby boomer generation woman and identify with so many things that you discuss. That was the best time to be a child! Watching our mothers in their homes, taking care of their families full time was such a blessing, and I thank God I had that kind of childhood. I live in Maine with my husband and my grown son who has Asperger’s syndrome. He has his own apartment within our home. I just want to thank you for the lovely recipes that you share. Today I am making your coleslaw for the second time this week. I absolutely love it and will never go back to the regular old boring coleslaw again! Just to share, one of the things that we recently did was to move our hammock from a wooded area, to our large back deck. It gets a lot more use there and we really enjoy it. My son and I are always taking turns on it LOL. Love you guys and keep up the wonderful job you are doing in giving your wonderful tips and sharing your lives with others.
