This is a great demo. I have a lot of California Coast Live Oak to split, which is knotty and stringy, like the wood you split at 7:20, and I am tired of doing it by hand (I get carried away and then need a while to recover... and I use my hands for a living, so I can't have that). Just bought a cheap electric hydraulic splitter and it sucks... so returning that and looking for a proper splitter. So far, this Super Splitter thing has my attention the most... Great way to start a Sunday Joe, splitting firewood. That was a quick job. First time I ever saw a SpltFire Splitter was on your channel. I've never ever seen one in north central West Virginia. Enjoy your day .
Hi Ivor - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I'm with you, I'd love to have one but there're not available this side of the pond. I contacted the factory but they have no plans to export here. I suspect its because the Super Split contravenes safety regulations but hopefully that might change now that we have diverged from the EU.
Hi Joe! Glad to see you back at it. I hope that your vacation was a great one. That hickory sure made the super splitter groan. But it still got it done. I’ve only had my super splitter for 3/4 of a year, but I’m loving it. The hardest thing I split so far was some twisted cherry. It was a pretty straight tree, but the grain has quite a twist to. I couldn’t touch it with an axe. I would’ve been driving splitting wedges for a week just to process a 30’ tree. I know because I tried to split the larger rounds to get them on the production table. I ended up noodling them. Not bundle grade, but it’s nice cherry firewood now that it seasoned over the summer. Thanks for another great video Joe! I hope that you have a great day 👍🏻!
Thanks Chris. Cherry seems to twist a lot. With smaller sticks I just let them turn in the knife...keep you hand off the top of it and it seems to split.
The totes are very good at making stacking and delivery easier and you can cut the top of the bladders off and use them as roofs to help protect the wood from excessive rain that we get in this area or in any area protecting from the rain you can use it as a hat just cut the top part off and the bottom and you can use one on the bottom the other on the top you can use the sides to make extra tops and bottoms as well to have extra on hand then they can easily be moved around you can do multiple totes for multiple species of tree firewood and keep it very much easier and more organized The less you have to manhandle the wood the more productive you can be
Hey Joe! I have seen you use the “Super Splitter” many times and now I definitely see how it is very productive. You split that nice pile of wood quickly. Nice job as always!
If a log round is too big you can split it in half or even in quarters with a chainsaw and then split it on the splitter where it’s light enough for you to carry that’s what I used to do before I broke my back

I have not used the ceramic wax type products they use now but wonder if they might even be better?Powder graphite in a spray can would work awesome the wheels/bearings. It would not attract dirt like petroleum based lubes...
The Super Splitter is a good tool. I think the Eastonmade Ultra is a little better as it can use a 4 way wedge. It is also not that much more expensive if your are looking at the Heavy duty model with the production table.
So i disagree about the 4 way knife. I used to feel that way too until I started using it. The single knife is the way to go. It is faster overall and makes better firewood. Seems odd but it is the way to go

Good Morning Joe. Always feels good to clean up an area of the yard. The split size on the cherry and hickory pieces seem random. Are they considered split ready for restaurants customers? Or do you need to split them smaller? Have a great dry! 😎🪵
I really don't have a market for Hickory so I just split it the way the log seems to want it. Cherry is a little smaller but a bigger split w cherry is ok since it dries quicky
Andrew Easton did a comparison of the Ultra using the 4-way wedge and a kinetic spkitter. The Ultra won by a big margin. But is also a good twice the price.

Morning Joe, I like to set my tote on a stack of 4 or 5 pallets when I'm stacking off the splitter, less bending and still a good height to work at when you get to the top. Been thinking I'm going to start setting them on top of a pallet when putting in the drying yard to help protect the metal pallet from ground contact. Going to be a great week temperature wise for working if the rain doesn't get in the way.
After watching several of your videos and looking into possibly purchasing one of these super split log splitters, they have 3 models and options. So my question is which one are you using and is that the standard table or the extra wide?

Hi, thanks for the video. Which model of splitter is this? I see they currently make 3 models: J (original), HD (heavy duty), and SE (special edition). They all look similar enough at first glance that I can't tell which one's yours. Thanks!
Same, I want a fast splitter but not sure if I should get the HD or SE with the bigger flywheel since I've split about 500 facecords in the past 2 yrs with a 30 ton splitter. Any model would be faster but is the 9hp SE worth the extra $ than the other 5.5 or 6.5hp super split?

I am not sure what the longer knife would do...you'd think the manufacturer had experimented with it but went with this lenght. It is welded on paul. Thanks buddy
“That’s all I gotta say about that” is that a Forrest Gump quote ? Also I see you still have the plastic corners left in at the bottom of your IBC’s, if you give them a kick of your foot they’ll pop out for you. No major advantage but they do reduce air for the bottom firewood if not removed 👍
I am selling it where I knew they would. I am not being very good at pushing it and looking for more accounts. I seem to have only so much bandwidth LOL

I've had it for about 5+ years Toni. It is a great producer for sure
Going to be a great week temperature wise for working if the rain doesn't get in the way.
good idea jason. Keeps the grass away from the bottom row too
Hi Joe: What lube are you using on the SuperSplit bearing and rail?
I think this was from Harbor Freight. It's just a heavy spray lube. Seems heavier than WD40
After watching several of your videos and looking into possibly purchasing one of these super split log splitters, they have 3 models and options. So my question is which one are you using and is that the standard table or the extra wide?
Hi Matt. This is the J model with the standard table. IMO that is all you need. It will split anything you can lift onto the table.
No would appear to be the answer. :-) Very smooth splitter - probably the ideal all-rounder machine imo.
I think ur right Jim!
Question, who’s running the camera???
She’s good at it
Any thoughts on electric versus gas supersplit
No experience w electric. Im sure its great.all depends on where u plan 2 split
The totes sure look like they are going to be helpful. Happy splitting 👍👍👍
Im liking them Lance!
How was your Finland trip?
ha ha! Stay tuned Derek
My red oak is every bit of 24" round. and bigger / I'am going to have to invest in a log splitter, My shoulder just want let me do it any more. I can get 6 wheel barrels full of split fire wood in 2 hours Just with my mauls
Hope to see you at the Paul Bunyan Show with your favorite Dr. Pepper!
As do I austin
Hi, thanks for the video. Which model of splitter is this? I see they currently make 3 models: J (original), HD (heavy duty), and SE (special edition). They all look similar enough at first glance that I can't tell which one's yours. Thanks!
Same, I want a fast splitter but not sure if I should get the HD or SE with the bigger flywheel since I've split about 500 facecords in the past 2 yrs with a 30 ton splitter. Any model would be faster but is the 9hp SE worth the extra $ than the other 5.5 or 6.5hp super split?
Hi Sol...the J model is all you need. Don't spend extra on the others. It will split anything you can lift onto the table.
@@Garrett572xpg so I looked them up and turns out they're made in VT which is not far from me in MA, but then I dug a little deeper and seems like there's actually someone in MA selling them under the same name. Maybe I will go check them out.
@@ohiowoodburner thanks for the info. I have about an acre of trees to clear in Massachusetts. Mostly kind of crowded, spindly, but tall (i.e. good for firewood) oak, elm, and maple with a few ceders and pine thrown in for good measure. I'm getting tired of manually splitting and the inexpensive electric splitter, while impressive for what it is, is not gonna keep up. I'd like to get a unit for this and also some family members who routinely need tree work and neighbors give me free wood. I'm not looking to get in the business at least not yet.
Hey Joe another great video but I think you might need a lesson or two on how to count on your fingers. 😂✌
ha! Math has never been in my sweet spot
Joe gotta love that cherry smells great and splits great. I’ve got a bunch of hickory that needs to be split not looking forward to that. Take care, Ben.
At least the smells will be nice!
Hi Mr Joe!!
Hey Eric!!
What brand gloves are those?
These are Atlas Showa. I love them. Very tough, last for ever and the most affordable gloves you can find. They run a little big so I go with L. Use my Amazon affilitate link

Joe looks to me like you need a taller wedge on that splitter so you won’t have to turn the round over and run it thru a second time. Just a little time saver for you!
What model super split is this?
This is the J model
quality firewood stacked on the ground..lol
I love my Super Split but Joe, can I have your Jappa?, Just thought I'd ask lol
Ha! I think Ill hang onto it
How is the smoker chips selling?/
I am selling it where I knew they would. I am not being very good at pushing it and looking for more accounts. I seem to have only so much bandwidth LOL
Hey 👋 Joe
Hey bud!
Have you had some kind of bug attack your hickory and make sawdust piles around you stacks??
Yes. There is a mite that chews hickory. Harmless to other woods
I would like to see it with locust.
Looks like it would be nice to have a foot pedal for that splitter. haha
Is that splitter toweable
Around the property or “down the street.” I wouldn’t tow it on the road no faster than 10 mph.
3 weeks away before my box store hydraulic splitter goes away. So in a way I will take your advice. 🤣🤣
Ha ha. Ur gonna love it Dan
@@ohiowoodburner : I hope some.. but we shall see..
I would have no fingers. I love my fingers. They do my favorite things. Fingers are good. Don't lose your fingers. Fingers.
Now imagine if you stored all your wood with totes!
Im not sure still thats the way 2 go for me. I think it would complicate loading my truck. Also muddy ground would make it impossible to use my tractor
@@ohiowoodburner I get it. I think delivering would be the most challenging. It would be easier to drop off a couple of totes for your restaurant clients, but that would take some additional equipment to make that happen. Just an idea.
Try that with Elm or Sycamore.
I have split a ton of elm with it. Splits it great. I don't think I have ever split sycamore.
Hi Pops & Joe - Sycamore over here is generally straight grained and a joy to split. It is my favourite wood to split and is not liable to explode the way beech does when you hit major resistance.
@@rodneysweetnam8653 the sycamore I’ve done has been twisted grain and a pain in the ass to split. I don’t even mess with it anymore. Free wood is too easy to come by right now.
You must have took another week off last week missed your videos
I think everything will make sense in my upcoming vids Kent! Stay tuned
I have the same splitter it’s awesome and works well with my Kubota tractor check it out Bill calnan
Will do Bill! Tjanks bud
👍👍
Thanks tom
If it only had a log lift it would be perfect
Or a younger, stronger operator!!!
@@ohiowoodburner lol..
I was also looking at one myself.
I'd pull the trigger if it had a log lift as an option
I often split hickory and cherry together for my smoking wood customers. They are a stark contrast to each other. One smells sweet & fresh and splits like a dream. The other smells pungent and splits like it was created by Satan himself! Lol
ha! I love both smells but i realize hickory can be more a preference to discriminating noses. I love both!
Looking like you need to invest in a nice commercial grade weed eater, something else for your high school helpers to do lol
Mowing grass has never been my strong suit!
@@ohiowoodburner that’s why you have the high school help do it lol, I don’t like mowing either this year I actual am only mowing half of my yard every time and the other half every other time with the deck up, but it’s mainly just to save gas since it’s stupid now. Take care
Always keep the tray aimed down a bit to prevent wild throw back getting you.
It slices, it dices, the SuperSplit vegomat........sorry....but honestly....... is there a species of wood that the SuperSplit is NOT suitable for....
The secret is obviously the thin knife edge on the wedge......
Glen it will split what ever you put up there. The toughest... elm, gum etc just take a few extra hits at times
***Remember to hit the "thumbs up" button **
Thanks for having my back neighbor
