    I don't know if you come back to the video and see new questions. I'll try anyway. I have a pink magnolia tree about 25 years old. Every couple of years, some new young shoots grow out at the base near the rootsystem. Can I use these young, still green shoots to propegate new trees? Anything special do I need to do? Or just add some rooting hormone in water and put the branches in it, and hope for the best ?

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  Год назад +2

      Yes, you can grow new plants from the new shoots at the base, known as suckers. Dig out the soil around the sucker and take out, ensure that it has some roots. Plant the sucker in a free-draining soil and keep the pot in shade. If the sucker is longer than 6 inch with very little roots, then cut it to 6 inch. Good luck.

    I read to use perlite as a potting medium. Is this OK???

    • @GardenTricks

      Yes, you can use perlite, the aim is to make the planting medium free-draining.

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  3 года назад

      Thin cuttings are easier to root. Take cuttings from newly grown stems.
      Los esquejes delgados son más fáciles de enraizar. Toma esquejes de tallos recién crecidos.

    Can I use grit? And my cuttings are 30-45cm long, can I keep that length? And finally, I noticed that your cuttings didn’t have any leaves, did you remove them on purpose?

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  3 года назад +3

      You can use grit, the aim is to make rooting medium free draining. Use cuttings of pencil thickness and about 15-20 cm long. Remove lower leaves and cut top 2-3 leaves into half or remove them also. Removing leaves will prevent water loss due to evaporation, also as there are no roots so the leaves will not survive
