Counting Stars Ukulele Play Along (In Am)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 окт 2024
- For educational use. Optimized for GCEA ukulele. Key of Am (Am, C, G, F, & Dm). Lowered a major third from the original in C# minor.
As performed by OneRepublic
I have a play along of this song in D minor (published August 2, 2017). A teacher asked for a version in Am, and at the time I wasn’t archiving old videos, so I had to recreate this video. I have tried to make fewer slide transitions, but this results in smaller text...hope that’s okay.
Video created on the iPad Pro using Luma Fusion. The ukulele chord font is Chordette for Education, available at ukefarm.com.
Check out the Ukulele Video Play Along Podcast, where I talk about ukulele education and my own ukulele experiences. Available on Apple Podcasts and Google Play.

This is my most practiced play along I love it everything that kills make me feel alive

Helpful strumming patterns:for the first sentence here -0:00 - 0:29 you do single strums and on the other sentence after that you do a down strum on every beat then on the chorus you do the strumming pattern DDU UDU (down down up up down up) or do DDU(down down up) hope this helped😁
Thanks for the thoughts.
My fingerpicking for the beggining is 4321-234 for each chords and my strumming patterns are DXUUXU and DDUUDU (for some parts)
I hope this could help 😊
Thanks for the strumming pattern.
Ayee thx
Can you tell me what the X is on the strumming pattern?
@@daza2146the X is just like a spacing so no need to strum that beat
For the strumming pattern, I would do DDU-UDU. This is an awesome tutorial! Really helpful! 😋
Thanks for a strumming suggestion and leaving a comment!
ty that actually helps thanks

It’s funny, this song is so much more than just a song to me. In 6th grade a boy in my class died from cancer and the day he did, we played this song on the ukulele in music class. It will forever hold him in my heart and I will always think of him when I hear this song. Playing it on the ukulele makes me think and want to do more good for all those suffering with cancer. Last year I went around my block and raised 500 dollars for cancer care because of my experience, and I will continue raising money! ❤
Thanks for all your efforts!
I feel like tge strum i liked best was DDDUD
same
Emma Kerr this is perfect, thank you
I feel like its more like dduddu but fast
i tried dddu and i think it's okie too ;_; but i'm a beginer sooooo- nvm
Mhm that's more simple than doing one really fast cause I don't have enough hand-eye coordination for a harder more fast one-
I have been looking for this song for about a month now and I found it and best of all it comes with a ukulele play along 😃
Glad to be of service!
😎
My daughter has a talent show in school and I showed her this and she said “mom I wanna go with this song for the talent show” and her friend who is doing the talent show with said yes also ❤
I love to hear this! Best of luck to them as they play!
This was my longest song I’ve played and I’m so proud
Congrats! Keep up the great work!
My music teacher loves this video and so do my class we play along to this song with our ukuleles every lesson
That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing! And keep on playing!
We have sing and play the Ukulele for our spring concert and I am really happy
Thank your teacher for using the videos!

Your mother would tell you to go to bed-morning good happens after midnight! 😀
@@ukeplayalongs 2 am is after midnight, anime is good-
Bangarang! I loved playing this for my wife and baby son!
I am self taught- I only know chords am c and f so I had 2 new chords to play- I srsly can’t switch the chords fast enough but I’m trying to not be so hard on myself as I only started playing 2 days ago-
Give it time! You'll get it!
@@ukeplayalongs thx!! I’m practicing and I got the first verse
@@boba_tea-8729 hey, you can always slow down the speed of the video :)
Welp all i did is DDDDDDDDDD
If that works for you...use it!
I did not do D or G
same!!
i used DDUUDU
I did “ DD UDU DU “
This is wonderful the music teacher kinda hates me but I learned this song with this vid and he said that he never expected something like this and he also liked the way you teach it that now he plays your videos to help us learn, oh and I play ukulele
I’m sure your music teacher doesn’t dislike you, and if you are going out and learning music on your own, you are doing exactly what we (as music teachers) hope that you will do-learning and playing music on your own.
Please thank your teacher for using the videos in your classroom on behalf of me!
Ok I will
Why does ur music teacher hate you?
For the strumming pattern I use either DDDDD or DDDDU 😊
Thanks for providing a comment that helps others!
Counting Stars 💕
I like DDDUD the most, but its mostly a matter of preference. it just seems the most natural
awesome video! the strumming pattern I use is Down, down, up, down
Whatever works for you! Thanks for playing along!
The strumming pattern for mine is DDUUDDUU I love that you can do any strumming pattern all of the songs are almost accurate!
I try for 100% accuracy as much as possible. We're all human! Thanks for adding a strumming pattern.
Best song ever
That's the fastest I've learned to play a song... TYSM🥺😍
You are very welcome!
this was one of the first songs i pkayed when i started playing ukulele. i cant believe how far ive come
It is always good to step back from our journeys and see how far we've come.
@@ukeplayalongs i agree!
I played this at ukulele class, super fun thanks so much for this video
You are very welcome!
(Not for this song) One of my favourite strum patterns is D (pause) UU DU using the chords Am G C F :D
Thanks for adding a comment!
You can also try DDDDU
There’s no right answer, so any pattern that sounds good to you is good.
I did DDUDU. I've played the uke for a few months and stopped for a while. I did okay with this play-along and it was fun!
Welcome back! Your ukulele will never judge you for taking time away!
Thank.you it was really helpful I can now play along with the original song
You are very welcome, though the original key is far more difficult!
wow i did it yay thank u so much for putting the chords here
You are very welcome
My class are abt to watch this tomorrow so I guys

i think DDU DDU is a really good strum
strumming pattern i used was D D UDU and it worked great for me try it out please

Sorry subscribed
Thanks!
I can’t comprehend moving my fingers and the strumming patterns and singing along any tips?
Keep practicing. You'll get it.
Practicing honestly, over time the chords and strumming pattern become muscle memory, then it’s just singing :) I was the same
DDUDUDU my strumming pattern, be careful with this one (my finger is numb xD)
That’s how you build a callus!
Omg tysm that works for me!
i love this song
Thanks for playing along!
I love this song great job
Thanks!
Yesss. I can finally play fast with the DDDUDU pattern! Makes me feel aliivvee
The “Make me feel alivvee” made me laugh.
I used too
But do you do in 1 chord DDDUDU
Thank you so much for your posts, I love your videos and really need them! I am a beginner ukulele player and they are great to learn and show at my school. All of my friends are like, "Woah! Where'd you learn that!?" I always am like, "gO tO uKePlAyAlOnGs NoW!" XD
Also I loved the simple strumming pattern of DUDU
You're very welcome!
UUUXUUU is an amazing strum pattern
Thanks for sharing!
god doing the island strum w this at original speed makes me so anxious but it's so fun
There is a gear icon you can use in RUclips to slow it down and still maintain the pitch.
@@ukeplayalongs yeah i started off doing that! challenged me enough but now i feel doing it original speed challenges me more 😊 thank you for the videos by the way
this is so easy but i love this song
Try the version in Dm! ruclips.net/video/c9LFT2PG-Wo/видео.html
really good video
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I got it almost perfect at second time 😂♥️
Keep up the great work!
For the intro I went DDU-UDU but then I like mixing things up with either DD X UDUDU X U or DD X UDUDUDU , feel very energetic and fun :D great tabs btw!
Thanks and have a great day!
What is X cuz i only know d down u up sorry just a beginner
I love this
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is the first actual song I can actually play
Congrats!
Love it
I performed this song in my grade 6 farwell
Try the strumming pattern DDUUDDUDUD or something different try DXDX (X=mute)
Thank you for the strumming suggestion!
I used ddu ddu
Thanks for the strumming pattern suggestion!
I don't get it, I'm new. Is it in one sound (I mean Am, C.....) DDDDU or what? I use on one sound two Times down, is it then DD? (Sorry my veeery bad english 😂)
First, there is no "right" answer, so don't let anyone tell you that there is. What is important is playing chords at the right time and finding what sounds good to you. Try some finger picking in the intro, and then DDUDDU sounds pretty good to me. Emma Kerr below liked DDDUD.
I love this so much! Thank you so much for making this vid 😊😁
You're welcome!
What’s a good strumming pattern that works
This is pasted from another comment I posted on this video: The beginning works well with a plucking pattern...try this order: string 3, 2.,4, 1 (Thumb, 1st Finger, Thumb, 2nd Finger). Then once the song goes into full speed, anything goes as long as every beat is covered...even D D D D works great.
Dang this is good
Thanks!
nice
Thanks
I am practising this scienc my music teacher asked me too and I am the leader I know how to do DDUDD it's so easy
Thanks for using the videos.
can u pls do don't start now by due lipa
There is a request form in the description of the more recent videos on this channel...that's where you can make requests.

Thanks for your suggestions!
Its so fast i have to slow it down lol
Thank goodness for the gear icon and being able to slow down the video!
Same
I did at first but I learned how to do it and I can almost do it without the video
How many strums for each chord
Sorry I just began playing it so yea..
One of the aspects of this kind of play along is that you are required to watch for the changes (they fade out as you need to change) and also develop your listening skills to hear the changes. It’s a different way of relating to music that closely relates to the skill of playing from a chord sheet.
im new to music can someone help me please? I cant seem to understand how im supposed to strum. I saw someone say DDU-UDU amd I feel like it works at first but when it speeds up it doesnt sound right anymore what am i misunderstanding?
Check out the long post about strumming patterns on the community forum of this channel. People get too caught up in a right pattern when there is none.
I Play This song in my musique Classe
Are you using the video in class, or just playing the song?
@@ukeplayalongs I played along to this. The one you made
Nice❤
Thanks 🔥
A strumming pattern I like is DDDDU
Thanks for sharing a strumming pattern.
Good
Thanks
Can i play stumming pattern like DDDD ?it will sound good ?
Whatever works and holds a beat is fine, as long as you are happy with it!
it sound like one republic sing this who is the one singing
it sound like one republic didnt sing this who sing this (i need ro repeat it beacuse i forgot to put didnt)
Yeah...the pitch had to be substantially altered (lowered) for the request for the song to be in Am.
oh thats why.....
oh well thanks for the play along!
And at the🛑 I have to sing louder I love this song
Thanks for singing along and for the comments!
I found that it sounded best with just DDDDDDDDDD, unless you do DUDUDUDUDU super fast. :) Great video by the way.
Thanks for adding your thoughts!
Just got a simply guitar ad-
Jelous much guitars?
Edit: I just realized I misspelled jealous
Just a note: this channel cannot be monetized, and copyright holders place ads on the videos--this channel has no control over the content of the ads.
@@ukeplayalongs yeah I mean I was just saying that guitars were feeling jealous of ukelele cuz there’s more of these sorts of things to be able to find in my opinion
@@ukeplayalongs but your channel is really underrated it deserves to be monetized
Because the songs are all under copyright, this channel can never be monetized. As a music teacher, I'm just glad that the copyright holders allow the use of the music (with ad revenue going back to them) so that others can use the videos. It would be nice if 1/100th of the revenue could come back as an acknowledgement that the video still had to be created (think of the impact with a top song like Lost Boy with more than a million views). But that isn't going to happen.
can you do prom queen by beach bunny pls?
I'll take a look at it. If it works well as a play along and is clean (or there's a clean version), I'll put it on the list.
We played this song at school
Please thank your teacher for using the videos and for being willing to include pop music in their instruction. Not all teachers are open to that!
Hello music class!
Whose music class?
@@ukeplayalongs my music class is learning this so im saying gello
Well, hello to all of you! Thank your teacher for being willing to bring modern music into your classroom...not all music teachers do so! And thank them for teaching you ukulele, as it is an instrument that you can play for the rest of your lives!
You can do like
Strumming pattern:
DDUUDUD repeat all the times
Thanks for the suggestion.
What are the chords for uke so I can play along with the correct version of the song? I can't find a correct key version of this song for the uke.
The original is in C#m. This version in Dm is a much better fit (1/2 step up). ruclips.net/video/c9LFT2PG-Wo/видео.html
DU UDUDUD works great for me
Thanks for the suggestion!
Strumming pattern?
Thanks for watching the videos and for leaving a comment! I don’t worry about stating a strumming pattern a lot of the time; Most of these songs were written without ukulele, so there isn’t really a guide-and while ukulele and guitar are related, they are played in different ways. There are a few songs that a specific pattern makes sense, but otherwise, if you can keep a steady tempo and your hand keeps moving up and down without stopping (something I see a lot with beginning players on ukulele and guitar), you’re good.
Sorry for the long explanation-but the truth is there isn’t a “right” pattern for most songs.
In this case, the beginning works well with a plucking pattern...try this order: string 3, 2.,4, 1 (Thumb, 1st Finger, Thumb, 2nd Finger). Then once the song goes into full speed, anything goes as long as every beat is covered...even D D D D works great.
You are amazing you are my faverate
Thanks! And thanks for watching the videos!
plz dont take this in offence or any thing u spelt favourite wrong u spelt it as faverate but its favourite just a little tip plz im not trying to be mean or anything but its just so u know 4 next time.

DDD-UDU

It say try using a finger picking patter but it doesn’t give you one?!? I’m a beginner so I need it spelled out for me
There are a lot of patterns you can try; on newer videos I make a tutorial; this is a much older video on this channel.
I’d pick 124 - 3 - 2 - 1 most likely on this song (string order) but there is no “right” answer as ukulele was never used in the original version of this song.
How do I know if it’s up or down ? Pls help me. How many times im so confused
I would not become focused on finding a specific strumming pattern. The song had no ukulele in its original version. What do you want to do is to strum with the beat. You may find that all down strums works very well. Or you may find other patterns work well, too. The main part is just to have fun with it.
@@ukeplayalongs its is DDUDD
my strum pattern is Am C F G and not D cause i did'nt know how to
