Counting Stars Ukulele Play Along (In Am)

  • Опубликовано: 6 окт 2024
  • For educational use. Optimized for GCEA ukulele. Key of Am (Am, C, G, F, & Dm). Lowered a major third from the original in C# minor.
    As performed by OneRepublic
    I have a play along of this song in D minor (published August 2, 2017). A teacher asked for a version in Am, and at the time I wasn’t archiving old videos, so I had to recreate this video. I have tried to make fewer slide transitions, but this results in smaller text...hope that’s okay.
    Video created on the iPad Pro using Luma Fusion. The ukulele chord font is Chordette for Education, available at ukefarm.com.
    Check out the Ukulele Video Play Along Podcast, where I talk about ukulele education and my own ukulele experiences. Available on Apple Podcasts and Google Play.

    Helpful strumming patterns:for the first sentence here -0:00 - 0:29 you do single strums and on the other sentence after that you do a down strum on every beat then on the chorus you do the strumming pattern DDU UDU (down down up up down up) or do DDU(down down up) hope this helped😁

    It’s funny, this song is so much more than just a song to me. In 6th grade a boy in my class died from cancer and the day he did, we played this song on the ukulele in music class. It will forever hold him in my heart and I will always think of him when I hear this song. Playing it on the ukulele makes me think and want to do more good for all those suffering with cancer. Last year I went around my block and raised 500 dollars for cancer care because of my experience, and I will continue raising money! ❤

      First, there is no "right" answer, so don't let anyone tell you that there is. What is important is playing chords at the right time and finding what sounds good to you. Try some finger picking in the intro, and then DDUDDU sounds pretty good to me. Emma Kerr below liked DDDUD.

Then once the song goes into full speed, anything goes as long as every beat is covered...even D D D D works great.

      One of the aspects of this kind of play along is that you are required to watch for the changes (they fade out as you need to change) and also develop your listening skills to hear the changes. It’s a different way of relating to music that closely relates to the skill of playing from a chord sheet.

      Because the songs are all under copyright, this channel can never be monetized. As a music teacher, I'm just glad that the copyright holders allow the use of the music (with ad revenue going back to them) so that others can use the videos. It would be nice if 1/100th of the revenue could come back as an acknowledgement that the video still had to be created (think of the impact with a top song like Lost Boy with more than a million views). But that isn't going to happen.

    Strumming pattern?

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks for watching the videos and for leaving a comment! I don’t worry about stating a strumming pattern a lot of the time; Most of these songs were written without ukulele, so there isn’t really a guide-and while ukulele and guitar are related, they are played in different ways. There are a few songs that a specific pattern makes sense, but otherwise, if you can keep a steady tempo and your hand keeps moving up and down without stopping (something I see a lot with beginning players on ukulele and guitar), you’re good.
      Sorry for the long explanation-but the truth is there isn’t a “right” pattern for most songs.
      In this case, the beginning works well with a plucking pattern...try this order: string 3, 2.,4, 1 (Thumb, 1st Finger, Thumb, 2nd Finger). Then once the song goes into full speed, anything goes as long as every beat is covered...even D D D D works great.

      There are a lot of patterns you can try; on newer videos I make a tutorial; this is a much older video on this channel.
      I’d pick 124 - 3 - 2 - 1 most likely on this song (string order) but there is no “right” answer as ukulele was never used in the original version of this song.

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  4 года назад

      I would not become focused on finding a specific strumming pattern. The song had no ukulele in its original version. What do you want to do is to strum with the beat. You may find that all down strums works very well. Or you may find other patterns work well, too. The main part is just to have fun with it.
