Also in the category of ‘old artists’ this year: Skinny Puppy did their final tour, killed it at every show, and then official called it day. An absolutely integral band in the history of Industrial Music. They never compromised on their vision and gave theatrical & memorable performances. While they do have a few ‘low points’ in their discography, they have an impressive and influential amount of work that holds up to this day for (again) their unique vision and style. I have checked out several Sleep Token songs and I have yet to hear anything in their music that's metal. They sound more R&B/Boy band then metal. I watched one reviewer who listened to the full album and he said he added up all the moments that might be metal, and he said he was being very liberal with what he allowed to be considered metal, and it total 16 minutes on an album that's 63 minutes long. For a band to be metal then metal should be the dominant genre in the music. 16 minutes of generously being called metal on a 63 minute long album doesn't make you a metal band anymore than Celtic Frost adding some symphonic elements to Into The Pandemonium makes Celtic Frost classical musicians. A lot of people argue Ghost isn't a metal band, but Ghost is a lot more metal then Sleep Token.
How is Ghost more of a metal band than Sleep Token? Almost all of their music is just dark pop rock. They have little to no metal riffs, no intricate metal drumming, etc.... Sleep Token obviously takes elements from pop and r&b, but they also are clearly heavily influenced by heavy rock/metal. Their drumming and guitar playing is much closer to metal than anything you find in Sleep Token. They have groove. They have riffs. They have guitar solos.
Ghost's entire first album is 100% a doom metal album. I would even argue Ghost's 3rd album is a metal album. Ghost has more metal riffs then Sleep Token. I have yet to hear a single thing I would consider metal from Sleep Token. But then again I also can't make it through a single song because I hate R&B @@justsomerandomguyman

Because it's not even worth mentioning. I was the biggest A7X fan from 8th grade to 1st year of college. I seen them on thier Nightmare Tour and Hail To The King tour. After 6 agonizing years of waiting. I was genuinely upset at how lackluster and disappointing the new album turned out. I was hoping so bad for a return to form of something like a mixture of Hail To The King and Nightmare albums. Shoot I'd have been happy as hell with a Waking The Fallen or City Of Evil sound. They clearly tried to be innovative and experimental. And some bands can pull it off and even move the needle so to speak. Like Bring Me The Horizon has done. But this was not that at all. And finn forgot about mentioning it because let's be honest. It's the kind of album you would easily forget about when none of it is worth remembering outside of MAYBE The song Nobody which was halfway decent. I think The Rev truly might have been the secret sauce of Avenged Sevenfold. His last album was Nightmare which he practically finished before dying. Since A7X basically did a tribute album to the greatest bands making songs that sound similar to already huge songs like Sad But True. Then they did The Stage which was mediocre with a couple good hits but compared to the new album its GOD TIER. This band has more talent then most every will between Syn, M, Shadows, Thier Drummer and the rhythm guitarist. Way too much talent to waste it making songs like they did.
If anything creed fans and music fans in general picked creed over nickelback because you could look at creed and say it has mark tremonti (and the other alter bridge guys) in it and he is probably one of the most respected guitarist of this century
I always get the feeling that the 'big' artists today are only big by default because there's so much dreck out there that just being passable these days is the current path to stardom, back in 80s, 90s and early 2000s, alot of them wouldn't even be a blip on tge radar

The Sleep Token fan is absolutely brutal
Didn’t even mention the new avenged album after a 6 year hiatus 💀😂
Because it’s one of their worst albums
I will always defend Human Clay and the first Creed album!
I never had a problem with Creed or Nickelback 😂
You could just pay a few bucks for Getty images you know.
If anything creed fans and music fans in general picked creed over nickelback because you could look at creed and say it has mark tremonti (and the other alter bridge guys) in it and he is probably one of the most respected guitarist of this century
AlterBridge is just so great!💪
Yeah I can't get into sleep token, but I'd go to a show to meet a baddie but I know I'd fumble it😂😂
I love talking about Blink-182 in a conversation about metal
You know you watch too much of Finn when you know the things he will repeat a band says/sings
Imagine putting out a video titled the year metal got popular again and putting people in the thumbnail that are not metal or hard rock at all!
Finn why do you always talk like you’re in a helicopter
LMAO he does the typical Mr beast style talkshouting that so many RUclipsrs do to retain audience attention
What are the biggest bands right now? What is the current drip? I'd like a video about the present more than the past. Thanks Finn.
I always get the feeling that the 'big' artists today are only big by default because there's so much dreck out there that just being passable these days is the current path to stardom, back in 80s, 90s and early 2000s, alot of them wouldn't even be a blip on tge radar
Dilemma is easily Green Day's best song in years.
As i predicted for myself. I cant listen for moaning man more than couple weeks. Like nine inch nails, theyre good, but for woman.
Also calling underage girls baddie is not the best idea 😂
The year that Finn reviewed nu metal every day
Sleep Token being near 3 million listeners is wild
Ronnie Radke is a perfect example that success or fame do not equal quality or good artistry. He’s essentially just the Tom Macdonald of pop-metal.
He's also the top of his game and the most famous he's ever been right now so take that as you will haha
@@leegriffiths8910 yikes…
Wow, hate much?
@@EphraimIgnacio You not liking it doesn't change facts
@@leegriffiths8910 success and popularity do not exclusively conflate with quality or artistic ingenuity/integrity.
People like FiR for whatever reason but people also liked Coldplay and voted for the Nazis.
*Me thinking that summer 99 line up would be a cool show * looks down at my large rings and bracelets after Finn’s comments * maybe I’ll just stay home 😢
Wtf, no Spiritbox mention?
