yet another absolutely beautiful song from you, Gavin. Honestly, you are most likely the most talented artist I have ever listened to, and I can't express how happy I am that I get to listen to your songs every day. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with the world, and I eagerly await your next song!
How is it that the songs keep getting better I mean just when you think one is perfect the next one sets the bar even higher you deserve a Grammy for all the great songs over the years
"And I have been to some bad, bad places. Taken gifts of the darkest shrines. I have seen despair in the saddest faces, now I'm back to reclaim what's mine." Absolutely love this line!
This song (especially the instrumental parts) really fit the theme and setting of this game, and the Dishonored series in general. ...Well now I just want a show for Dishonored. Live-action, animated, whatever. It has potential!
This is me with most of MOS songs. If it's not amazing outright, it grows on you until you can't stop listening over and over again. It's like the melody has a mind of its own! D:
Same with me. When i first heard it, i was even a little disappointed with this. But now, days later, i am like: "This is WAY better than i remember!" 8D
His videos are always much more exciting depictions of the games than anything the development companies ever put in their actual advertising campaigns.
when i watch people play dishonored, "Kicks him into whale oil, blowing everyone up, than throwing a crossbow into the air, and have it land on a random guard" When i play dishonored, "walk into room, sees three guards, kill 2 of them, with just normal, sad, slashes, than get killed by my own crossbow"
My (non) creative ways to have funny kills (D2) 1. Blink kick from roof 2. using far reach to lift people from the ground, kill them mid-air and watch the body fall on his comrades. 3. using domino on 2 people fighting each other 4. stop time when they are about to fire, take their gun and shoot them when they are wondering what the fu*k happened.
TheLittleJapanadianThatCould I like to play non-lethal just so it feels like I’ve achieved something as I know I can’t get loads of sophisticated kills like that
@@T13HS people seem to have the wrong idea about those playthroughs. people dont actually play the game like that, they practice every level a very large amount of times and memorise every guard movements pattern to get those to work. the whole "shoot in the air and hit" trick takes a lot of practice, and even more luck. they arent consistent, you just see the winning attempt. normal playthroughs are what we expect, walking around trying to figure out the best way through. also, edgy name
Lone Wolf I prefer nonlethal playthroughs as well (except for a few… well… let’s call them accidents), but that wouldn’t stop me from some little shenanigans. Like putting an unconscious guard, whom I can trust to be an arse because the heart told me so, on top of a roof or in some other place guaranteed to give him a bit of a shock. I’ll let fate decide if justice may be served via a broken neck today…
Me during my no melee Run(Dis1): [Clears an entire area with One magic and One grenade, and watches as all the limbs of my brutally deceased enemies fall from the skies, reducing the whole street into a macabre parade of Blood and steel] Emily: "what did you do today, corvo?" "And I have been to some bad, bad places Taken gifts at the darkest shrines Seen despair in the saddest faces Now I'm back to reclaim what's mine" kinda reminds me of "cause the sad sad faces of the weary and worn live in bad bad places that are dreary and torn And a distant honor calls me to your side to be your guide".
Its finally out. I've been listening to it for days, waiting for it to come out on youtube so that I could say that its quickly become my favorite song. I've already got many hours of listening to it on repeat.
I‘ve listened to this song for 6 years and it‘s one of my absolute favorits of yours. I can feel the ticking and the ringing and i love it as a watchmaker! I am always happy when there is a new song, especialy a creepy one like Paleblood Moon (not really new but also one of my absolute favorits) or epic viking ones like Valhalla Calling Me and Skal, but I will always come back to this masterpiece. Greetings from germany and stay creative, your music helped me in stressful times!
I think this track shows more of Gav's maturity as a composer and lyric-writer. As catchy as Distant Honor's chorus was, I always found the lyrics too simplistic. Here, the melody is both heavily influenced by the source material and yet stands on its own and the lyrics are creative as they are catchy. I find the lead-in to the chorus (I forget what it is called, forgive me) to be great. "Out of time I go running, as you're running out of time". Clever inversion and I can choose to interpret it as both a lament for Corvo, trapped by Delilah and as a threat towards the latter. Then it encapsulates the game's overall premise and theme "Storming forth I return from the nothing. I am back to reclaim what's mine." This followed by the chorus just screams determination to me. Also, the titular "Clockworks" motiff all throughout the song. But, I can also write another wall of text describing my love for the orginal "Distant Honor". I do, however, think you improved greatly, Gav.
Jacob Fisher I think, I've found one - the mentioning of been to "bad, bad places" cirka 3 minutes in. It feels like a callback to the line "Live in bad bad places that are dreary and torn" from Distant Honor?
Loved Emily, Dr Hypatia, and even Dililah. I also totally noticed how strong women are really represented in this installment the most--From the antagonist and protagonist, to the Dr, boat driver, miner supporter, to even the veteran guards, all women (and mostly with the guards).
"Play it again, Sam!" It`s like i`m watching the merging of the the parallel universes with the Bard singin along with it. Frozen peaks of Skyrim, vast darkness of our galaxy been thrusted by Normandy, bloody London cryes, and a crystal tear on the cheek of Ciri... Gavin, you`re a great f*king bard! Bottoms up!
Gav you made me crawl out of bed in the middle of the night so i could listen to this on proper headphones, it was worth it though think this one is my new favourite
Fantastic job once again Gav. I discovered you through Distant Honor and ever since I first finished Dishonored I wanted a sequel and it's great that both the sequels to the game and the song are fan-fucking-tastic. I already bought level 7 a few days ago almost solely for this song.
Bought Level 7 as soon as it came out on Bandcamp, and this was immediately my favorite track of the year. It fits Dishonored so damn well, and overall it just sounds amazing. 10/10, Gav.
Absolutely fantastic, by far your greatest song of the year. Even though it's a song about the game itself it is also perfect as a theme song for Kirin Jindosh.
How does Gav not have more subscribers? 394k is to small a number for a miracle of sound. Finding him was one of the best things that has happened to me. Gav, thank you for doing legends of the frost and leading me to you.
Best. Song. Ever. (Me every time I see your new release). But this time really doubt if it is possible to make anything more superior than this one. Good luck in all your future beginnings!
The first song for Dishonored was the thing that first attracted me to your channel, Gavin. This one is just as awesome! I've been waiting for it for so long, but it was worth it.
With most of these songs, I start off going "hmmmm, its ok..." and then as the song progresses I like it more and by the end its a "that was alright", then 5 minutes will pass and I listen to it a second time, then a third, and before I know it I have had the song on repeat for the whole night. Great work Gav, never stop.
I had to listen to this one a few times before it really clicked for me. I couldn't help compare it with your Dishonored 1 song, which is perhaps unfair (but makes sense, I hope?), and it didn't feel as immediately catchy as the former. Also, 00:44 - 1:00 felt really familiar (I think you've used a similar arrangement elsewhere, but maybe it's just me). Anyway, after a while, I'm really getting the groove on this one. The build-up to the refrain/chorus, and the chorus itself are really awesome. The metallic-sounding string instrument (is that some kind of guitar? I'm not a musician myself) adds a lot to it, especially when "trilled" in contrast to the harder rock elements. Ah, there's a lot to take in here, and you deserve credit for all of it.
you could get those just from watching a review, asking a mate who also played it or just reading a plot synopsis. it doesn't actually give a clear indication to how much he played a game, just how many unique elements he knows to reference. hell, he might not even play the games at all! he makes a lot of songs on a lot of games, and each one takes a lot of effort. and a game such as dark souls III can take anywhere from 60-100+ hours to beat. I wouldn't expect MOS to have beaten all of them, but i want to know how many he's played through to the end.
Depends on the game/series and how much lore is available but most of the time I prefer to finish the game before starting to write. Why would I bother writing about something I'm not interested enough in to play? Wouldn't make sense to me and it would make for crappy, half arsed songs. Did it when MOS first started but stopped 3-4 years ago.
They're tough going at times alright but very rewarding, to the point that once they 'click' with you they kind of ruin other RPGs, haha. The world, combat and lore in them is just amazing once you get into the groove.
Keep pushing forward. Those of us that can see it will continue chasing your back. With any luck we might get to repay the favor someday. Don't worry too much about the ones that can't see or understand where you're going. Our backs are still visible for them to chase instead.
this is literally such a bop, you captured the musical aesthetic of dishonoured perfectly i legitimately thought this was an actual song from the game the first couple times i heard it
I'd like to point out(pretty obvious, tbh), that each if Gav's instrumentals are so brilliantly crafted to have little details pertaining to the game setting. This one had clock sounds, Dogs of War has marching drums, Sovengarde Song has the shouts feel, New Black Gold/The Natural Heart has this cyberpunk but subtly despair-feeling to it, etc. This is exactly why you are one of my favorites, Gav. Love ya, m8
With each new song you release I just want you to perform live somewhere. I would totally take a plane wherever it would be :-) Keep up the amazing work, man!
Ahh, it's so awesome! Amazing job Gav, as always! I was very excited for this song, I'm happy with the way you created it. It's simply the Dishonored style, I love it! :3
I was drooling over this game a while back. To ease this, I went back and beat the first Dishonored two more time. Which seemed to sate my desire to play the sequel. However, after listening to this. The hunger has returned........damn you and your amazing music and it's power to be stuck in my head for days.
I love how you use the instruments present in the games soundtrack to fit the theme, like "The Witcher III", DOOM 2016, Fallout 4 (plus how you made a callback to the original Fallout 3 MOS), and this!
Love the clockwork ticks in the background, haven't quite noticed something like that in many of your other songs (IE an actual sound-effect that's thematically fitting, rather than just a unique instrument pulled in to fit the aesthetic. This is, like, actually grabbing the aesthetic by the neck and throwing it right into the song rather than imitating said aesthetic, and that's a compliment). Chorus is awesome too, whole thing's just better than Distant Honor, and even then, Distant Honor was great too. I give myself about a week before I'm thinking about nothing but clockwork automations from listening to this song a little too much.
I do not get those people who have given Gav hell this year over his music. I think 2 we have seen some of his best songs ever this year! Don't let the haters get you down, Gav. Level 7 is an incredible album, and I think this is one of the best songs on it.
some songs are bad, some are good and a small few are GREAT.....and of those great songs, they either have a great middle that they work towards building for, or they have a amazing beginning that starts the rest of the song perfectly...... this is a song that has a great start.........
After listening to this directly after I listened to the dishonored song I get the feeling that this song is a sequel to the first song, don't know if that was what you were going for but it works
One of your best works in a long, long time, Gav! The first Dishonored is one of my favorite games and I can't wait to play the second. You've managed to capture the feeling of Corvo and Emily's striving for vengeance perfectly without making it sound like it would fit High Chaos or Low Chaos only. I remember how insanely hyped I felt when Dishonored 2 was announced, and this song is giving me that feeling all over again!
Superb, absolutely superb, this song alone was worth buying Level 7, & I've been going nuts waiting for the video. You sir are honestly my personal musician of choice right now. Enjoy the rest of the year, & we will be here ready for the next song when you want to do one!
I think they're referring to the fact that Level 7 is so amazing that it will be difficult for Level 8 to top that. But Gav will probably still achieve that ^^
“I’ve been to some bad, bad places.”
“I’ve seen their saddest faces.”
The references to the old song is golden

he makes a lot of songs on a lot of games, and each one takes a lot of effort. and a game such as dark souls III can take anywhere from 60-100+ hours to beat.
I've played through all 3 Souls games multiple times lol. It's one of my favorite series
@miracleofsound I'm skeptical about wether or not to play any of those, they look interesting but from what I've heard I'd get my ass kicked alot
They're tough going at times alright but very rewarding, to the point that once they 'click' with you they kind of ruin other RPGs, haha. The world, combat and lore in them is just amazing once you get into the groove.
"Out of time I go running
As you're running out of time." Darn, I like those lyrics.
Love the song as always, Gav :)
Keep pushing forward. Those of us that can see it will continue chasing your back. With any luck we might get to repay the favor someday. Don't worry too much about the ones that can't see or understand where you're going. Our backs are still visible for them to chase instead.
This one of my favorites from you in a while! Congrats
this is literally such a bop, you captured the musical aesthetic of dishonoured perfectly i legitimately thought this was an actual song from the game the first couple times i heard it
The 10 dislikes must be the guards getting eviscerated in the video.
Silver Akstilettos they rotated the like button to press it one more time xD
No whiskey and cigars for them.
You IHE guys are everywhere
There's now 49 of then. Damn, Corvo has been busy.
+Charon Dusk he's probably got Emily helping out
I'd like to point out(pretty obvious, tbh), that each if Gav's instrumentals are so brilliantly crafted to have little details pertaining to the game setting.
This one had clock sounds, Dogs of War has marching drums, Sovengarde Song has the shouts feel, New Black Gold/The Natural Heart has this cyberpunk but subtly despair-feeling to it, etc.
This is exactly why you are one of my favorites, Gav. Love ya, m8
I've been refreshing your page over and over for this, and it lives up to every expectation! Keep it up, Gav
With each new song you release I just want you to perform live somewhere. I would totally take a plane wherever it would be :-)
Keep up the amazing work, man!
Dune, how you keep making so many masterpieces?
He sold himself to the Outsider.
He is a god in disguise, come to bless our unworthy ears with his art
He's a true Bard. We're lucky to live in a time and place where we can hear his work regardless of where we live. :)
Fool! Read you not his words? DUNE...'tis obvious that he is MUAD'DIB RETURNED TO US
James.T .Adams
Funnily enough, there's a person in the room with me who's playing Dune 2000 at this very moment.
God i love the eerie-but-mellow bits in this song! Dishonored 2 is definitely in my top 5 of 2016, so thanks a bunch for making this awesome song Gav!
The beat is perfect
I'm really digging the vocal layering and effects here. It sounds like Dishonored should.
Ahh, it's so awesome! Amazing job Gav, as always! I was very excited for this song, I'm happy with the way you created it. It's simply the Dishonored style, I love it! :3
For a big of Dishonored, I completely love this song. Thank you so much for making this.
Oh men this music has a special energy in it, its beautiful as always Gavin you never disappont us.
Hail The Miracle Of Sound.
The quality of your music can't be described with words alone.
Actually got to play that game through this video^^ Loved and enjoyed every second of it 🥰. This song captures the spirit just perfectly ;)
Same for me
I was drooling over this game a while back.
This got posted just as I finished work. Thanks Gav, got something to listen to on the way home.
love how the music even sounds mechanical and like clockwork, not many artists could pull it off. great work man
Cant stop listening, i must be charmed by this music.
I love these well-placed disharmonies, they sound like the grain in the clockwork Emily is in the game.
The Stilton Manor level is the best time travel in video games of all time
I prefer 'Effect & Cause' from Titanfall 2.
InterHalfer It's been done before.
AtlasMKII that was good too
I liked how you could play as both corvo or Emily. I played as both different experience for me both times
has remained my favourite MoS song through out the years
Superb, absolutely superb, this song alone was worth buying Level 7, & I've been going nuts waiting for the video. You sir are honestly my personal musician of choice right now. Enjoy the rest of the year, & we will be here ready for the next song when you want to do one!
Absolutely intoxicating. I can't stop listening to this song!
Greetings, Level 8. You've got big shoes to fill, but I'm sure you'll do just fine.
This is still Level 7. The next song should be the start of 8.
I think they're referring to the fact that Level 7 is so amazing that it will be difficult for Level 8 to top that. But Gav will probably still achieve that ^^
Rory mercury I had just checked Volume 7, and "Clockworks" didn't seem to be part of it. It seems I was wrong.
No this song is in Level 7
