    This channel exists to document unit counters within StarCraft 2. Tya's Unit Tournament features epic battles between units in StarCraft 2, using music from the game's soundtrack. Units are chosen from Protoss, Terran and Zerg forces, or a coop commander such as Raynor, Nova, Artanis, or Kerrigan. Units will independently use their abilities, in a basic way. All units use Legacy of the Void stats, the same units you'd see in SC2 esports controlled by the likes of Serral, Maru, and ByuN. The resource beneath vespene is the unit's cost in the mod I run on the SC2 arcade, Direct Strike. Enjoy!

      Yeah I had to pause and look at comments before continuing because that fight annoyed me so much. Doesn't the barriers reduce dmg by 2 or something x2 because reapers fire twice.

    The sentries using hallucination instead of guardian shield is what lost that battle. No way do reapers win otherwise.

      At first glance, i thought that it was going to be the most pointlessly one-sided fight ever that's a freebie. Then the sentries used hallucination as the ultimate anti-prediction troll move.

      reapers attacks are divided into 2, so guardian shield would work double.

      @@AntiDoctor-cx2jd yup and that's what that last Sentry took ages to die, unfortunately it hallucinated Archons which taking double damage, just disappeared straight away, barely tanking anything. If they Guardian shielded instead would have been a monster stomp the other way...

      @@lukeclarke267 It was probably the grenades that messed up their AI, or maybe they didn't have enough energy after wasting it. I think reapers do 2x4, so it would have taken half their damage away.

    Me, watching sentries vs reapers: Oh guardian shield does -2 dmg and reaper base attack is 4 which means their dmg will be halfed, ohh thats gonna be nice to see

      It's more than half, reapers do 2 attacks of 4 damage with their pistols simultaneously for 8 damage, up to 14 with +3 attack. This has the effect of making armor twice as effective against them, dropping it down to 8 against +3 armor, then 4 with Guardian Shield. 14 damage down to 4, that's around 72ish% damage negation from armor/shield upgrades and Guardian Shield.

      Reapers have 4 (8) damage attacks. They deal 2 (4) instead because of guardian shell. That is half.

      Vipers (combined with hydras) make colossus look ultra weak in normal play, as well as many other protoss units.
      Also protoss has no good counter to kill vipers.

    The BCs gave me pain in that battle, starting with Yamatos on the Stalkers. I still predicted BC/Thors would win, and I was assured once the Tempests were gone.

      And the BCs were not shooting for ages while attempting to teleport. And also takes them ages to return to the fight.

      I was surprised at the end how good the stalkers were at running a screen for the few remaining tempests. Not perfect but they were taking the hits for the tempests while they were nuking at range. But yeah, the wasted yamatos gives me an ulcer.

      also thor prioritizes whichever attack have more dps so they focused down the tempest that fight, else they would've lost

    1/4 today. oops.
    My predictions:
    - Vikings (I honestly thought their air to air would be able to carry them, but clearly I was mistaken)
    - Reapers (the big x-factor here is the sentries, since otherwise this would've been a clean sweep for the reapers I think)
    - Stalkers (figured stalker micro would've saved them a lot of losses)
    - Banelings (no way those zealots would survive, so I put my money on the hydras to clean up the rest... lol)

      That was 400supply worth of vikings against 560supply of voidray. Also the voidray team got 5k/6k more resources.
      Viking has more range, lower damage point. It's downside compared to voidrays is that it can't shoot down.

      Void rays are also anti armored, the vikings also take too long to fire off another volley so if the voidrays pick off like 5 of them before the next one the vikings damage decreases

    Watching the reapers made me think, "How strong of a defensive line would it be if you had a few ranks of siege tanks with a few ranks of reapers in front blowing back the enemy as they approach?"

    Everyone talking bout guardian shell but I'm annoyed at those hydras, imagine if they did even the smallest amount of micro, at least 'not standing where the fewest of your boys can shoot in one big collusus beam shaped line'
    They let those banelibgs down so hard lol, it was painful

    For some funny ones, I had some ideas.
    1) stationary target versus workers but they just start building a base out of range
    2) Giant Dehaka vs Mini Dehaka but giant Dehaka has lower level devour (less range)
    3) Vikings versus Phoenix but Vikings land
    4) Kerrigan versus some mass anti-ground unit but she spawns a leviathan
    5) Stukov infested marines but they all run out of timed life halfway through the fight
    6) warp prisim versus nydus worm
    7) balanced commander unit fight but they use topbar abilities
    8) zerglings versus marines but they morph into banelings
    9) high templar versus some bio unit strong versus storm but they morph into archons
    10) archons versus ghosts but they get emp'd

    Man....3/4. If only the Sentries used Guardian Shields....I think the Adept Sentry team would have won for sure with GS. Everything else was easy, although the BC Thor vs Stalker Tempest was closer than I expected.

    Too bad there isn't a way to show missed shot/overkill damage. Projectile units lose so much because of focus fire overkill.

    Some terran imba apologist told me void rays were good against vikings. Here we can see that with even army value vikings win straight up. Factor in vikings have superior range and speed, so they can kite and it would be a blowout. Protoss units are so crappy, and then they get nerfed anyway.

      It's retarded you are trying to rage about balance with this kind of videos. Not only does this not represent actual battle, since vikings would have all wasted their fire trying to kill a single void ray and then lose way before prismatic alignment ever runs out (or the void rays can run once that happens), but vikings are literally pure anti-air. While void rays can hit both AIR AND GROUND.
      Protoss units are good, and they didn't even get a nerf overall, certainly not one they didn't deserve, lol. Void rays certainly didn't get nerfed, so the fuck you talking about?

    Thumbnail shows voidrays surrounded battle... I have seen that in SC1 frontal battle results are different than surrounded battles, I wonder if the same happens in SC2.

    Wow that thor BC battle. Protoss had so much advantage in the set up. BCs use yamato on stalkers. Terran still wins, terran army cheaper. Protoss units are trash.

    @Tya Have you tried BCs without the teleport? It feels as if they lose more dps than they gain because of the slow teleport. Unlike stalkers who blinks instant and regens shields.

    I think, you should separate weapon/armour upgrades from unit-specific upgrades (in one way or another); there's very limited number of icons you can fit in, and Protoss eats 3 out of 5 slots with just their stat upgrades. Given that sometimes presence (or lack of it) of certain unit-specific upgrades is important, it limits what you can show when the fight involves mixed compositions.

      But there's a lot of units who has more than just 1 atack.
      For example Banshee, reaper, zealot, ultralisk, Thor. Each armor upgrade is more efficient vs units like these. Also armor is good vs units with low dmg but very fast attacks. Like zerglings, BC's, void ray's, carriers, marines.
      Armor upgrades makes sense vs them and dmg upgrades is important For them as well

      Mixed composition armies, especially involving Protoss, always have some upgrades not listed due to icons for attack/defence upgrades taking all the space.

      @@Az-ecim You keep misunderstanding me. Creator shows the list of used upgrades for both armies, in horizontal line; it includes weapon and armour upgrades.
      Because it includes those upgrades, there's not enough place to show unit-specific upgrades, especially in mixed or Protoss armies (you often have only two listed, despite there being more).

    It's kinda sad watching protoss units in there. They are way too strong in a-move situations with no micro, like this or a typical diamond PvP

      Protoss lost 2 of the 4 fights though? And in both losses better micro would have made a significant difference. Guardian shield instead of hallucinations and Tempest going hit and run tactics like they're designed to do. Collossi in battle 4 would have benefitted from hit and run tactics too. Especially with a cliff or ramp nearby.
      Meanwhile Thors and Hydra/Banelings wouldn't have had any better chances with better micro either.

      Protoss units are the worst in full A-move commands. Terran units are the best. Even stalkers under perfect blink micro can not win A-move marauders without medivacs.
