Hello, you guys, I purchased the Sol Horizon Rover Intech trailer in the year 2021, and I love this trailer. What a great product I'm camping every week 👌🏾 👏🏾 🙌🏾
I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees the benefit of a smaller lightweight (non-hardcore) off-road trailer to be able to branch out and hit places your larger rig can’t fit.
I also have a 3500lb max tow capacity vehicle. I bought a Sunset Park Sun Lite 16BH about six months ago, and have been very happy with it. Dry weight is listed as 2480lbs, and GVWR is listed as 3500lbs. The layout is very similar to the first unit in your video - the Coachmen Remote - but it DOES have a dry bath. I've done about 5000 miles with it so far, and have had no issues with towing with my SUV. Several nice features - two awnings (rear and side), three burner cooktop with oven, 10 cf fridge/freezer. I'm a solo traveler (well, with a 75lb German Shepard). I leave the dinette down as a sofa/lounger and added a Lagun table. Works great as extra counter space while cooking, laptop work space, dining, and "coffee table" while lounging. So don't give up on finding a unit with a dry bath within your 3500lb GVWR limit - they do exist!
That A-Liner would be perfect for a camp. Pick up a dozen acres out in the boonies cheap and boom! You would be rocking. I've traveled a LOT on a motorcycle and camping, usually with a small tent, Jet boil stove, and a mat to lay on. Over 100.000 miles. That A-liner would be a luxury hotel for me ;-)
If you want a trailer that is under 3500 lbs you should look at Escape, Casita or Scamp. We have had one of all three of these brands. Started with a 13 ft Scamp, then went bigger to the 17 ft Casita and upgraded to a 21 ft Escape. Loved them all, but when we went full time we had to leave the fiberglass trailers and went bigger.😊
Towing-capacity was the main reason I didn't even put mid-size SUVs on my Shopping List (back in 2021) -- only mid-size trucks. And you're right, 3500lbs capacity is pretty low, to me almsot useless. I'd still prefer a smaller/lighter-weight TT, but the truck can handle it way easier given its higher towing capacity. That works for me as I don't want to be at max capacity or even close to it -- I like having that extra headroom. My truck likes it, too. ;-) -- BR
We love our Tear Drop and have gone on 4 month trips multiple times. We’re in our late 60’s. The minimalist lifestyle in a Tear Drop is something everyone should try. We’ve had big rigs and it was nice, but the Tear Drop is so easy and quick. Safe Travels
That nucamp t@b 320 was nice, but personally, you should consider the t@b 400. We have a 400 and have traveled over 40k miles since 2019 and love it. We started with a 320 and after four short trips, traded up. The issues we found were the following - 1)you have either a bed or seating area. If you don’t make the bed, where are you putting your linen? 2)the bathroom is very small - I’m 6’2” and could barely use it. 3)you will def feel how small the 320 is if you are stuck inside due to bad weather. We did have a Walker Tent that attached to ours, but it’s a huge pain to put up and then where do you store it. 4) if you cook / eat inside you will be sitting on your bed. Finally, as for towing, many dealerships both vehicle and travel trailer try to sell you that your vehicle can tow a specific rig. I remember a Jeep dealer trying to sell me a gladiator tell me it had a 7000 tow capacity. When I told him that 7000 had to include the weight of the gladiator, people, gear, etc., then add the weight of what you are towing full, and then where the heck you plan to tow it, you find you have little margin for error/safety. He tried to tell me I was wrong, the 7000 was what could attach to the jeep.
Excited you guys looked at inTech! We have their OVR Navigate now and we had the Aucta/Terra model in the past. Very high quality, with an aluminum frame.
@@whilewestillcan we did modify the table. Many in the Facebook groups have tailored it to their taste. I like as much floor space and “hip real estate” 😅 as possible, so my hubby actually made a table/storage piece to fit where the corner cushions were. I love having rear living. We love the generator option. I knew about the build quality already, and that hasn’t disappointed. We added the newer steps they offer. We really love it!
The aliner fold up campers do get dust where corners meet. When I researched small, I joined the FB forums for solutions etc for all brands first. Try MDC for better off road quality. And Intech has several things and one new one with aluminum cabinets. I own the Dawn and love that it can be a king bed, twin and a half or two short twins depending on inserts. But Note, the Sol Dawn is the only one in its lineup that is shorter height wise interior. Todd might have trouble in wetbath in that one since the bath is in back whereas all the other Intech have baths in middle with more height. Happy hunting
We looked at the Sol. We have been RVing in a nuCamp 400 for 5 years so we consider ourselves experienced small camper folks. While we really liked the overall design, what soured us was the limited storage space. Lots of cabinets but when you open the doors, you see how really small the storage is. Other than storage, we were impressed with the quality. I think (it’s been a year) we looked at the dual axle model because it offered a larger bathroom, but were concerned with the unit’s weight as our tow vehicle is a F150 5.0.
We had a smaller aframe with no bath room; we go to state parks. We loved it, but the older e We got the roof was harder for us to raise, in our 80 s. We bought a 16 ft sunlike . It’s small but has a potty and shower.
Todd, that woman wants to go off road and you better make it happen! Shelia, maybe a small airstream? Thanks for taking us along not a big fan of wet baths like Shelia. Are y’all going to make the Tampa show?
You need to look at GVWR if UNDER 3000 lb Because at 2800 dry, you add water, propane, food, gear, people and the Bronco will be overloaded. You also have to account for the tongue weight, especially if you want to add bicycles. We have been through this with our Jeep. Friends had a Rpod with 3500gvwr and they ended up seliing it. Too heavy when loaded for off-road. Like KYD, they ended up with that tiny one like the InTech outside kitchen and no bathroom. That didn't last long! Good luck!!
We went to the show since it is only 20 minutes from our sticks and bricks. Show was great. Looked at the class C models we were interested in. Was also looking for something we can do IT work from as we travel.
I can't believe that we didn't see you guys. Matt did say that he thought you were there. Very sad that we didn't see you. We were there for the first 3 days. But it was so hot that we were only able to walk around until noon-ish. We were able to narrow down to a GD and an Alliance. Now we just have to figure out which one. Oh and get a truck to tow it. Hope to meet you guys one day.
He seems like a very average buyer, doesn't even think of quality. He's just looking at weight, and maybe price. And he seems a little clueless about RVs -- never even heard of NuCamp (been around for years now). Nor likely Little Guy (T@G) TTs, either. Wow. And the Crap Makers -- which are MOST of the American RV industry -- thank them for that as that's how they've been staying in business all this time: Average Buyers. Surface looks and eye-candy sell them easily. -- BR
@@billredding2000 Everything you need to know about big and small manufacturers is on the Web. And yet, people go to these RV Shows and Buy Crap and Complain. Without an outside inspector. Lot’s of wasted consumer money.
A rule I like is never tow more than 80% of the vehicles specs Did u look at the Rockwood Geo Pro? I know they have options that would fit into your towing limits.
I would love to see an overview/comparison of truck campers as an option for "adventure camping" We currently have 44' fifth wheel toyhauler pulled by our Ford F450. There are places we can not go with the toyhauler but since we already have a truck that has a lot of weight carrying capacity a truck camper seems logical. Also with the F450 with a truck camper we could also pull our boat! Have been looking at Host and Lance (really like the Host "Mammoth")
@@SwitchItUpLife must admit we have not either, we both laughed a bit and will be following, if your ever in S Cali send us a heads up. Maybe by then your bronco will have its small adventure suite and we all could hit up a small backwoods or desert excursion. 😉 We got our adventure rig a storyteller van Sheila named minion even snagged our RUclips name to Mach our rig & names. For when and if we break free from the yoke of work/jobs and start living our better versions of ourselves 😊
We are looking for something smaller in addition to the Brinkley but 3500 lbs just doesn’t fit our needs. We’ve been hashing over selling the Brinkley, getting one of the new cottages to leave in Georgia. Get a smaller truck as we wouldn’t need the F450 and a Toyhauler trailer. Selling my Indian is not an option. 😂😂 Rocky does love his Suzuki V-strom. Love the Intech toyhauler but not sure both bikes would fit. So much to think about!!
I hope you guys end up with a 4 seasons rated camper. Even if you're not intending to go anywhere cold you could still get caught in a Polar Vortex. Besides tank heaters and an enclosed and heated underbelly they usually are better insulated. If you see a camper that claims to be 4 seasons rated, make sure the dump valves are "inside the underbelly". If you see the dump valves outside on the drain piping, its NOT 4 seasons rated and its a freeze break waiting to happen. Fyi, those Ember campers seem to have it all but, they're on the heavy side.
Howdu!! As someone who use to organize and lead 30 to 40 jeep tours per year for over 450 4x4 families, you must consider your gear tire ratio for flirting with max gvwr 3500lbs.... For example you must consider steep climbs towing at max gvwr with stock gearing and stock tires you will struggle in hill climbs and decents. If you flirt with max gvwr and you want to camp in mountains, i want to encourage you to seek regearing your tow vehicle so that you have more low end torque, high rpms on high way speeds yet ability to tow in the hills. If you keep stock gears with 3500 max tow weight, you will struggle towing small camper. Just my $.02
Great video but it sounds like you need a little education on towing. Towing is less about towing capacity and more about payload capacity. How much payload capacity can your truck haul? Once you reach 2/3 of that weight you should stop adding weight. You will find this information on the driver side door. There are many good videos on how to calculate towing. Watch and learn it will save you from bad decisions. Pin weight is everything. Love your video..
Before you spend money on a trailer do some research on what you vehicle can tow. I would start with the ford towing calculator. On a small vehicle payload is important. I bought my f150 with the max tow it is sold as being able to tow up to 14000 pounds. When I ran the ford calculator with my truck and honest numbers for payload my capacity dropped to 9300 pounds. My stupidity has limited my choices as to what I really wanted. Towing at max weight is Not comfortable even at slow speed. Also check out off road campers LLC.
Oh no -- looking for a possible short outing not something we would take out with us both. Park one - take a mini trip to a few places that the big truck can’t go …. & places we could not have taken our other rig either
Am I wrong about their calculations? The trailer is 2800, don't you have to add the weight of all the gear and the total weight of the people you add? I can see it going above 3500.
Great job Todd. Did you remember to turn the propane on? That was my first Switch It Up video. I subscribed right then and there. You were pre-1k subscribers at the time. It’s been a lot of great adventures and memorable moments. Looking forward to many more good times. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe, stay well.
None of these trailers are suitable for over landing. Look at the ground clearance. If you want a true overland trailer look at something like a bean teardrop.
Our first RV (1998) was a tent camper with wet bath. We only lasted two years with that. You cannot control the weather and here on the west coast we get a lot of overcast wet days. Things just don't dry out. The wet bath was a pain, if you gotta go, you gotta dry it all off first and it's so small inside, where you gonna dry the towels? Shower at night? Make sure you dry it ALL off before you go to bed otherwise if you have to get up in the middle of the night your feet and other parts get wet. IMO, they are just too much work. At 59? Hard NO!
Should add that this is on a Safari Condo Alto - not sure about the type of curtain material they use but it dries in about 15 minutes if we open the bathroom window and run the MaxxFan on high.

The tow rig and trailer combined is probably around $1 million USD
