rocks and stones cant bruise my soul but tears will leave a stain. So darn good to hear a live version of this song. It's so unique and timeless. Ritchie's lead on the studio is so touching but this version is just as awesome, in a different sort of way. thanks for posting.
Lucky me, I was moving out of florida the next day. Sunrise, Florida, my last day there I got to see and meet the best band in the world ever. Superb !! Cheers !!!!
1A Video!!! Das war meine Discozeit!!! Tanzfläch war voll und es war absolute Stille!!! Klasse Band!!! Ian Gillan ist einer der besten Rocksängerauf der ganzen Welt und aller Zeiten!!!
Saw Purple w/Blacmore in '72 and couldn't wait for Machine Head to be released. Went to see 'em again in '02 and couldn't imagine anyone taking Blackmore's place. Morse was perfect. He played his own style and licks while preserving Ritchie's vibe for every song. How fortunate for all us DP fans.....
Did just buy "The House of Blue Light" today and Gillans "Toolbox". Gotta love Deep Purple AND all the work that the musicians do on the side. It's like a fine side dish!
Ich war knapp über Zwanzig, als mich diese Musik und das Thema begeistert hat, und heute noch, nach 20 und vielen Tagen, begeistert mich diese Musik noch immer. Und ich verstehe den oder die "Fools".
Cool..the album Fireball has always been my favourite Deep Purple LP, along with Machine head, just for the lead guitar solos. Especially the break on "The Mule"!
in 1971 they decided that most songs of the fireball album did not work live, and also ritchie blackmore did not like it much. so they used older songs and some which later bacame machine head songs, as lazy and highway star. but they reuse some old songs in the morse period, esspacially from gillans favoutite Fireball. and i really like it^^ maybe the songs on fireball need much more modern equipment and technics... they were really ahead of their time...
That was a great show. I live still live in Sunrise. I also have a two cam mix of the show (produced by Starke) which includes the entire drum solo as well as the intro to Smoke.
amazing song from deep purple, steve morse is so good, amazing, awesome, a god. his sound makes me travel into space!!! thank ypu so much, 5* of course. jon lord is a god too, all deep purple members are gods!!!!
The correct title of this song is "FOOLS", and it's on the "FIREBALL" album, released in 1971. So it's hardly a new track, just a very obscure one by Purple standards.
You're right. Maybe to me this song is the most attractive and awe-inspiring of all DP songs: it creates goose-bumps to me every time. This version has unfortunately lost some of the drive and tension of the original one (replaced by pseudo-artistry as some would day), but anyway, great it is available here in RUclips.
all you guys who are putting Purple down, and saying this version is no good. I'll tell ya, I worship the original version on the studio album but this version, tho different, is also superb. You guys don't like this later stuff, go listen to Kings of Leon or Yeah Yeah Yeahs but go away.
For Nitro0193 , yes, the Blackmore's solo in this song was Amazing , i can fly with that solo !! Fantastic .... they lose something in this performance. however , at 7.00 start another version of Fools... strange, but cool .
@alec12 - I'm pretty sure that the Deep Purple that is out in the world now is Ian Paice, Ian Gillan, Don Airey, Steve Morse and Roger Glover ! So basically like this but Don Airey instead of Jon Lord. Would be awesome to catch some night ! :)
jmstersherm1, is there different versions of Live in Stockholm & Scandanavian Nights that have this song live with Ritchie? I've heard those albums but didn't hear Fools on them?
Come on, stop this ''no Blackmore no Purple'' crap, every line-up has something great about it. I also prefer Blackmore but he doesn't want to play rock anymore, what can you do?
Fräulein Menke Yes, he's totally off key on the verses, probably due to the unavailability of ear plug monitors. I'm cringeing on every verse that Ian attempts. But nice guitar interlude. All said and done, Deep Purple have a long way to carry on. You guys still rock!
Reading the comments someone said Morse is just a mechanic. Well I am a mechanic(auto) and hope one day I will be as highly regarded by my peers as Morse is as being one of the best in the business. Mechanic or not, You just don't win the guitarest of the year 5 years straight by being mediocre. Blackmore is an awsome studio performer and my favorite gutarist of all time but IMHO much of his live stuff just plain sucks. Morse on the other hand sounds just as good live as he does on the CD's.
I swear Morse is a nothing more than a mechanic. He plays without passion and seems to need to prove he's some king of shred. Blackmore is an artist. Nothing more needs to be said. Though this is the best of the Morse DP contribution it is still empty somehow. He's like a shredder with no touch. It's almost like he's in a hurry to get the damn concert over with. Gillian....get another guitarist - please for god's sake...
Yeah I am serious!!!! Like I said, Blackmores studio stuff is awsome, No one is better. I will repeat, Much of his live stuff especially with Rainbow and later DP is not very good. I think you better reread what I wrote. in short I said BLACKMORES STUDIO STUFF IS AWSOME, LIVE STUFF SOMETIMES SUCKS.
I have my trouble with Morse- he has not the charakter of Richtchie- he play his own way- it`ts not my way. I dont like his style! Sorry! But Blackmoore in his wearing of old Knights isn`t better! But his wife Candice- she`s an eycatcher- love to see her in shorts or skirt!
This perf is so dissapointing! DP are dead and they dnt know. If you ever heard the original, this is only a week rememberance. The drummer cant keep the rhythm! The lead guitar had never heard the song before? Even the other members of the band were wondering, what the.. is he doing? (You can see the confuse) The beautifull slow tune of the song was gone as well the spirit of DP! This was turning shit into cash only. If y dnt understand this rating, listen to the original track!!!
One of the finest guitar solos I've ever heard, it completely moves me.
rocks and stones cant bruise my soul but tears will leave a stain. So darn good to hear a live version of this song. It's so unique and timeless. Ritchie's lead on the studio is so touching but this version is just as awesome, in a different sort of way. thanks for posting.
whooo steve morse! what a guitar player!
Шикарное исполнение, обалденная композиция! 🎉🎉🎉
It's a shame that Ritchie Blackmore wasn't there, but what a great song!!
Lucky me, I was moving out of florida the next day. Sunrise, Florida, my last day there I got to see and meet the best band in the world ever. Superb !! Cheers !!!!
"Fools" is one of the most underrated songs in the history of rock.
I agree
I have. Heard this song. At pub's & never could put my finger on. The title;. This is my most favourite. Of all Purple songs.
THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!!
1A Video!!! Das war meine Discozeit!!!
Tanzfläch war voll und es war absolute Stille!!!
Klasse Band!!!
Ian Gillan ist einer der besten Rocksängerauf der ganzen Welt und aller Zeiten!!!
На века!!! Живой Лорд!!!!
Gillan's voice is strong here. Great stuff
Lord a genius.R.I.P John
Brilliant!!!
Morse...Steve Morse...ALWAYS!!!
great middle part! adds something new to the song !
Great song from the best Rock and Roll band ever!!!!
one of the best deep purple's songs.
the album is called "fireball" from 1971, the best deep purple studio album.
Did just buy "The House of Blue Light" today and Gillans "Toolbox". Gotta love Deep Purple AND all the work that the musicians do on the side. It's like a fine side dish!
Jon Lord really does this song!
Love the intro and the part in the middle!
The best "never played" Purple song.
Ich war knapp über Zwanzig, als mich diese Musik und das Thema begeistert hat, und heute noch, nach 20 und vielen Tagen, begeistert mich diese Musik noch immer. Und ich verstehe den oder die "Fools".
one of the best songs. Deep purple rocks!!
watta rare song AWSOME !!!!!!
Great, great song.
Rare live.
Wow Fireball Back to Life!!!!! thank you
I thank my dad, that I grew up with this music! \m/

Would've been cool to see them do this live back in the day.
Very , very thank you ... greatest hit
all you guys who are putting Purple down, and saying this version is no good. I'll tell ya, I worship the original version on the studio album but this version, tho different, is also superb. You guys don't like this later stuff, go listen to Kings of Leon or Yeah Yeah Yeahs but go away.
Gillan's trousers are...good song
For Nitro0193 ,
yes, the Blackmore's solo in this song was Amazing , i can fly with that solo !! Fantastic .... they lose something in this performance.
however , at 7.00 start another version of Fools... strange, but cool .
That´s a great Song. But the best movement ever is at 8:58 !!!
Nice... To few people who speak out..Keep on my DP friend..!!
yeaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh great!!!
Superbe! ❤❤❤
jmstersherm1, is there different versions of Live in Stockholm & Scandanavian Nights that have this song live with Ritchie? I've heard those albums but didn't hear Fools on them?
you know nothing!!Steve Morse is a great guitarist!!!he has a lot of admirers!!go and read critics for him!!!
this clip es from a DVD?? what is the name?? please
thanks
regards
The original version is angry and rocking. This version is jazzy and kinda sleepy. They need Blackmore bad!
awesome!
well said,,supurb!
I think it's time for him to stop it and sing medieval with his friend Blackmore !
30-32 éve megőrültem ezért a nótáért! Nem változtam. Most is!
The undead Black Sabbath, of course
Time waits for no-one ...
Very good!
Ich einwillige!
are u serious?!?!
ever heard of made in japan??!?!
blackmore is just asa great studio as he is live.
hey shadowspawn, during the Fireball tour did Purple play Fools live?
@gillan5 I'd Differ Slightly: Blackmore(outright), Cozy Powell on Drums, Lord and Gillan. Just my personal preference...
Ist u.bleib die geilste Band, neben Jethro Tull
@gillan5
and not at least : Glover : best composer ! (1969-1973)
Me in the audience: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
perihelion
Will someone please mix this with B&W Firebase footage from Vietnam and colour hillfight footage from Afghanistan?
it´s ok...hey, it´s ok, they are getting old.
i´m younger then that now.
glover is really focused...
Yeah... I like
wundervoll
Come on, stop this ''no Blackmore no Purple'' crap, every line-up has something great about it. I also prefer Blackmore but he doesn't want to play rock anymore, what can you do?
@alec12 yes!
yea maybe blackmore's later purple stuff sucked but he made 9 great albums right before...plus his work with rainbow was good
Piekny zapomniany utwor
Demais!!!
Ein bisschen anders, ABER hammerhart, Danke
It´s absolutely stupid to discuss who is the best singer. It´s a matter of personal taste and nothing more
Gillan is off-key, but probably not due to his own fault. Yet, he looks hot, he's aged well.
Fräulein Menke Yes, he's totally off key on the verses, probably due to the unavailability of ear plug monitors. I'm cringeing on every verse that Ian attempts. But nice guitar interlude. All said and done, Deep Purple have a long way to carry on. You guys still rock!
why is ian dressed like aladin? :))
sry, mean AWESOME! But Gillans tune is to high...anyway, great song
Yeah, he is good guitar player, bu Richie Balckmore is the best
Reading the comments someone said Morse is just a mechanic. Well I am a mechanic(auto) and hope one day I will be as highly regarded by my peers as Morse is as being one of the best in the business. e kak 6e hwane6 koj e naj-golemiq po`itatel?!
@cob0alexi0laiho I disagree but I can accept it! :)
ouch, that hurts - Gillan´s intonation is really bad here
I swear Morse is a nothing more than a mechanic. Actually Steve Morses' playing really rocks!!! But yeah Ritchie's better.
I love DP...& especially Gillan...but his pitch is seriously off here...
A great guitar solo - but not for the mood of this song!
This perf is so dissapointing! DP are dead and they dnt know. If you ever heard the original, this is only a week rememberance. The drummer cant keep the rhythm! If y dnt understand this rating, listen to the original track!!!
@Angelious0 apparently no one agrees with you
extrem cremig gezupft und brachial geklampft!!!!......
Wrong
Solo part sucks anyway.
