I like how carlsen gave levon everything levon wanted from the position but by understanding the dynamics a little bit better he won. Just another classic carlsen game
Carlsen's positional understanding of the position is mind-boggling, especially in a rapid game. Watching the game live it seemed as though Aronian was doing great with the control of the d5 square and the light squares, but Carlsen just showed who the boss is. Aronian said the day before in an interview that he had been playing the Spanish for about 30 years, so he knows it back and forth. Well, in such a rich opening there is always something to learn...
There is so much to learn from this game. It’s a masterpiece in how to play the Black side of the Spanish. Thank you, GM King, for your customary excellent coverage.
Just stunning. Where others might be seeing ghosts fearing the knight-outpost combined with the lightsquare potential, he just calmly dismantles his opponent completely. Somehow that calm retreating rook move after winning the piece is just the cherry on top. Great analysis.

possibly Magnus' best game of the year. It exemplifies Magnus' approach to playing black in stark contrast to most other players. It seems as though most players see playing black as a means of achieving equality and a draw. Magnus sees it as an opportunity to exploit other players' attacking play.
@@PowerPlayChess After such an amazing day we deserved your guitar jam in the end. It was the cherry on top of the cake. I hope you relaxed with some tea with ginger and rhubarb:)
Oh I missed that. At the London Chess Classic postmortem one year, Nigel Short broke into song, singing "What do you get if you sac a pawn" to the tune of "What do you get if you fall in love?"
Good afternoon Danny. I just wanted to ask you if your upcoming Chessable course on the Kalashnikov will be a full black repertoire after 1 e4 c5 including the Anti Sicilians or if it will just be on the Kalashnikov after 4...e5. Thank you very much.
Ra7 and soon Carlsen's crossed swords come out of their scabbards. Maybe this is why he seems to be smiling to himself sometimes. He knows what's coming, and his opponent doesn't, just yet.

Beautiful attacking play, no risk and so elegant from Carlsen, a modern classic. Thanks for an illuminating analysis. Keep up the good work Daniel.

Powerplay to 100k!!!
Fantastic stuff. It's games like this that demonstrate why Carlson is so dominant, just as Kasparov was 20 or so years ago.
Knight outposts are all well and good, but if you can direct play away from them, they're pretty much useless it seems. Great play by Magnus.
Thank you GMKing. Your analysis makes mysterious play somehow instructive!

Watched this game online, it seemed Carlsen was so relaxed and was able to win with such an ease! Amazing...

That whole Bb7-Ra7-Qa8 idea just knocked me sideways.
Superb as usual Mr King. Best analysis by far on the tinternet. Thanks
Thank you, David!

The guitarplaying yesterday evening was bloody brilliant :D
"Can I go now?"
I thought my playing was a bit rough - I lost the plot at the end of the day, but whatever...

Comforting for the rest of us, a former world no 2 made to look ordinary by his opponent on the day
Sometimes, the Queen can fire her deadly shots even from Siberia... ;-)

Just the Kalashnikov after 4...e5 - that has taken me long enough! I'll see about a separate course for the anti-Sicilians later on.
@@PowerPlayChess THank you very much for the update! I will look forward to both.

Nice to see black win a Ruy.
is the marshal gambit good for white or black?
Amazing
Excellent game by Carlsen 💪💪💪💪💪

svechnikov style where magnus is expert
Must be so frustrating to play Carlsen
Is Carlsen copying Alpha Zero in this game?
No!!! It's the other way around!
