I'm a retired Western Australian roadtrain operator, & I've seen so very many, but this puts me in mind of one in particular.
A fellow I knew who used to haul double grain trailers in the wheatbelt came steaming round a bend at full speed when the inner drive tyre blew on the lead drive axle, taking out both airbags causing the truck to roll over multiple times. The kingpin broke out of the jaws on the truck turntable, releasing the trailers at high speed.
All that was left of the truck was a chassis, more or less on its wheels, & the drivers seat intact.
All the rest was gone. Sleeper, cab, dash, steering wheel, passenger seat, fuel tanks, bonnet, radiator, engine & gearbox were missing in this incredible debris field.
The driver walked away with a couple of broken ribs.
God was shielding that driver that you speak of on that day !

It simply was not his time to go. Somewhere down the road so to speak, God has in mind something great for that driver to do.
In the late 70’s, a driver of a cabover went into the trees after a similar incident, tires blown, out of control. He hit a large redwood stump headlight high that stopped everything but the cab. He was still in the seat with the seatbelt on, thank God, about 40 feet away. Minor injuries.
He must’ve felt he was inside the washing machine
The "Liquid Death" you see in the trailer is NOT beer; it's actually sparkling mineral water. The cans look like beer. I've been stopped so many times by cops thinking I was drinking alcohol on the street, and they would often give me a hard time until I point right at the label.
Finally lol And yeah if it was beer it'd have been gone in a matter of hours

Giggles? That would be like carrying oregano plant bits like in the 70s just to turn a traffic stop into a big pain in the ass with a judgemental, triumphant acting cop who thinks a small bag is a career boost, only to get even more pissed at you bc it's not pot.

A major ice storm came through the area and I was grounded at home but I had a chance to see the wrecked vehicle when I returned to work 3 days later on I 40. It looked weird to see it. Playfully the driver survived.

I'm a former EMT / Paramedic and rescue tech. In my experience, the worse the wreckage looks, the better the outcome for the occupants. Crash forces are dissipated by the structures around the occupants. So the cab and chassis took the hit, and protected the driver and passengers.
The fact that drivers seat, steering wheel and and foot area are intact and door was pried open is a good sign. Not seeing any medical debris and biohazard says someone has quite a story to tell 🙂

@@ozziecrosby2092 unfortunately not, never seen accident where there's no sign of any medical and or law enforcement other than in Alaska. Especially with alcohol🤔 as least it's cold 🙂

Unfortunately sometimes all that debris flying around can chop the driver into meat. 🍖 😵
I see a lot of people saying the scene should be secured. In the last several weeks I've seen many scenes that were left at the side of the road waiting for better weather to clean it up.. it's a reminder for all to be safe and don't take chances
Plus some areas they wait till late night during light travel times to do cleanup. I seen that a lot on I-80 out in the plains states.
As a former trucker (36 years) I was thinking the same. A debris field left unattended without any sort of warning device.
Gladly everyone is okay . Take a beer.
I am a safety officer in the gas industry, but that means nothing really, its a breech of industrial law to create a secondary hazard out of an existing hazard. It is not acceptable for a truck driver to leave a load scattered all over the highway, nor is acceptable to leave a wreckage all over the highway. Its a public liability issue- end of story!
Many highway departments do this now days. Wait for better weather, rather than cause another accident with a wrecker and/or other towing & recovery equipment. Yes this looks like a mess, but it's all moved off to the shoulder and off the highway.
I’ve seen wrecks much much worse but this is definitely nasty. I hope all involved here are ok and safe. My goodness!!
I was on the other side of the highway when this happened. It was one of 40-50 wrecks those two days.
How in the world DID it happen? I just can't fathom the physics that led to this.
All I travel is I40 and I30. We stayed home those two days because of things like that. I saw that wreck aftermath Friday along with all of the other wrecks. I'm glad I stayed home.
A driver passed away that worked for my employer hauling the laminate we produce in December. I haven't heard a definite answer but it's possible he fell asleep or had a medical emergency. The co driver who was in the bunk asleep survived with only minor injuries.
Life is so fragile. Let us not loose ends unfinished. Let us be right with God because we will never know when our end comes.

This is a scary sight to see, I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. From my understanding the driver made it out ok, but this company is a local for me out of Dobson, North Carolina.

This is a reminder just how fragile life really is and how in a split second everything can change!
The sheer force it would take to do that is unbelievably scary.
With the few wondering what forces needed to rip the entire cab and sleeper from a tractor and toss it several meters away leaving it revelry intact.
Trucks have none of the safety features of a car, the cab and sleeper are very thin and light. They are bolted to the frame and it rocks and rolls easily. Knocking the cab and sleeper off without hardly touching the hood is what I find curious. If I'm the driver and survived I'd be asking if someone was sending me a message.
Looks like the driver could've survived. I've never been a fan of how beer is hauled on tall skinny pallets with an imaginary bulkhead made of nothing trustworthy. I've had a couple come sliding forward and damaged my trailer creating a mess inside. It should be illegal for transport like that. My solution was to add four stacks of empty pallets of equal height in front of the load but the beer companies said no way because it changes the weight that can be hauled. Again it's a classic case of profit over safety.
I like the new load beams that can be used in newer trailers. Place several beams in place and two sheets of plywood on the backside. One strong and efficient bulkhead. Just as you said, those makeshift bulkheads are only an accident looking for a place to happen!
@@ronfullerton3162 one of the best ways to get rid of make shift bulkheads is to stack the pallets lower and wider. Beer loads aren't anything magical compared to palletized canned foods and can be easily shipped using the same formula. It's when some nitwit tries to reinvent the wheel we have problems. Likewise when I haul soda it's never stacked like a beer load even though the math is the same.
@@BigManAlaska Proper loading is common sense. Anything left to chance can happen! So we just need to load so there are no avenues to fail.
I have used pallets as you talk about, and they are an excellent item to use for load integrity. But I have enjoyed some of the new ideas that make things quick and easy, such as the beams. In the end, I do not care which is used as long as the load is secured. Just less to "sweat" about.

Years ago, on the Ohio turnpike saw a Conway that into a wreck, same thing cab was completely off frame up right in the medium I saw the driver open the door get out with his briefcase and radio like it was a normal day

That was on I 40 Arkansas, I drove by it and I had a chill, not only this Semi there was about 12 dismantled Semi trucks in 20 miles stretch, the reason is crazy ice, I am a truck driver and the scene was horrific for me, I picked up an Amazon load around 6 AM so the roads weren't that bad but I am assuming all these happened at night, may God be with them.

Well seeing this is pretty Erie. I drive that particular type of truck atm. It is a 2023 Peterbilt 579.
The reason the cab got separated from the truck is because the actual cab unit section is technically floating on air bags & a few struts to hold the cab in place. The engine assembly and the lower frame are 1 unit. I ain't too thrilled with this design, but it is a fairly comfortable ride.
The entire underside you can see from one side of the truck to the other clear through, I could see it as a safety thing, rather than taking the brunt of a forceful impact say if hit from the side, it absorbs most of the hit and shears the cab away from the rest of the truck.
Don't know if that would make a crash more survivable, but it is up for debate, I'm fairly sure.
If they build the cab like an F1 car or a Group A touring car (I'm in Australia) the cab would be the safest place to leave the accident in, if intact, even when it ends like this.
That trailer would've been tail boned very hard to not only snap off the trailer axles, but also snap off the cab!

Everyone relax , He really did not tamper with anything, his you tube video - might in fact help, as when the towing outfit gets there and finally removes these truck parts , poof everything is gone meaning what is referred to as evidence.
The local police as well as , state police , at this point wrote, documented , and detailed their reports as much as possible, - as well as , the body cam footage of their first arrival will be available to the parties, owners and insurance companies.
Hopefully, it is not , the case, but , anytime there is a fatality, the is a special fatal accident investigation unit , from the police division, that comes out , and documents every possible angle. Skid marks, obstruction which were stuck, possible point of impact, etc .
Question did the cab land like this or did the emergency crews place it up right , and line it up exactly behind the trailer.
If it landed like this , wow great luck, if not which is most likely he case -
with all the accidents that night , the crews must have moved and positioned the cab, out of the way to open the road up again to allow traffic flow - including the trailer. Wonder if the trailer was on its side as well, Does not appear on the one side of the trailer to have any damage- Wow - wow - wow -
with all the accidents, that night in that area the towing company must of filled up their lot , and had to make extra room on its property, to accommodate all of those vehicles and damaged trucks from that horrible night

If he was first on scene trying to help before ems got there maybe but after the fact don't put yourself or the motoring public at risk for your selfish desires.

As a newbie back in the day (mid 80's) my curiosity peaked at a wreck down a snowy slope. What I saw made me a bit wary and perturbed. This thing looked like a cabover then I see the hood a distance away further down the slope. At that moment I'm thinking, 'What have I gotten myself into'. This thing was so compacted that only a very small dog or animal would have been able to navigate its interior. That scene was very disturbing.

@@24juan68 well you can contact the state troopers office. They no doubt kept a copy before forwarding it onto BSA because the insurance adjuster will want to see it. You will not get it from the insurance investigator. They give nothing away.

You can see some crazy wreck's out there. The worst one I have ever seen was coming off the I-5 grape vine heading to Oregon State. The truck went off the Mountain and it shook me. Our a head own collision with two 18 wheelers and no one walked away. GOD Bless There Soul's. Trucker's please 🙏🙏🥺🥺 be safe. What happened? Never seen a accident that the cab ended up so far behind the trailer......Hope the driver made it & is doing well
My brother in law was killed in a semi truck roll over accident in Dutch Mills, AR a few years ago when the demo trailer he was pulling loaded with construction debris trailer brakes failed and he rolled over on a concrete bridge railing that pretty much sheared the cab off the chassis. He had complained about his trailer brakes multiple times. The trailer axle in question mysteriously disappeared from the trailer at the wrecking yard that it was taken to. As you can imagine, my sister in law had no case against the owner without the axle as proof....He left 4 kids behind without a father....RIP Dewayne Vanover.

Perhaps one of the most interesting and really intriguing accidents I have ever seen. Had to be weather related for a late model rig like that to get hooked up on the guide rail and come apart like that one did. Evidently there was a giant force that drove the cab up and off the chassis like that. I seen freaky stuff like that happen in bad ice conditions. Normal forces just don't work like they usually do in ice & snow.. I saw a big ole customized Kenworth out on Rt80 jack knife and for the life of me the cab just stopped pretty much intact when the trailer just ripped loose and kept on going on down the road slamming into another stopped truck whereas the trailer knocked that truck completely down the embankment. freakiest accident I ever seen up close in person. I stuck it down in a low gear keeping a level pedal till I could get far enough away from the heavy crash area. I went up an exit ramp and sat there till the weather passed over next morning it was still super slippery.
It sounds like a very safe design to keep the driver with minimal injuries

What highway and mile marker? Was wondering if I-40 was going to be okay when you left Fayetteville. I-44 was going to be north of the ice storm. Snow maybe...but no freezing rain.

That's really Erie to see the cab separate from the chassis like that. We don't know the full set of circumstances but I think Peterbilt has some explaining to do. This is a newer 579 unibody configuration and the cab should not have separated like this. Stay safe out here JBG.

It's not just Peterbuilt. I have seen this occur with Freightliner, Western Star, International, Kenworth, and Peterbuilt.
The driver's for the accidents I witnessed all survived, though all required a ride in the ambulance.
I drove over 14 years and I drove a long nose Pete 18-speed but I have seen many of the freightliners and Volvo's get hit where the whole tab just came the only have so many hours but that truck together so what does that tell you

most air ride cabs are held on mostly by the shock absorbers Doesnt matter who makes the truck.

As long as the truck is out of the travel lane, recovery of the vehicle can be put off until such time as traffic isn't as congested.
It's out in the boonies of Arkansas, not in a megalopolis like Dallas area. Maybe their are 2-3 towing companies out there that will bid on the recovery price?

That’s a terrible looking wreck JBG!! I wonder why they had not removed the wreckage before everybody left the scene. Usually, they clean up from a wreck like that so that the traffic doesn’t bottleneck with the onlookers. I hope the driver recovers completely. How’s the grand baby Johnny B? I've seen them leave collisions like this that happened overnight for daylight and better weather.

I've cleaned up some accident sites via owning a moving business. That one shocked me because i've never seen a truck cabin lift off like that.
Went to one involving a Class A motorhome that looked like it got dropped from an airplane. All that was left together was the chassis and the driver seat. The motorhome must have been overloaded as everything, but the chassis filled up the entire back of my F700 box truck. It was all the sides, roof, back end, interior stuff and personal possessions stacked floor to ceiling,

Seen similar truck accident!!! In city Perth Australia 🇦🇺 the 25 tonnes front end loader !!!! The driver was hauling in a Peter built truck an trailer !!!! The chains broke holding the loader to the trailer !!!! From a very sudden braking moment!!!! The chains broke !!! The loader forced rolled forward!!!! Over the top of the truck cab !!!!☝️ completely crushing the cab of the truck!!!! Killing the driver instantly!!!!☝️🙏 r I p his soul !!! As your video shows !!!!! I saw some pretty crazy stuff between 1990 to 2019 when I quit driving truck If I had to do over again I would never would’ve stepped 1 foot into a truck

There were wrecks littering the highway for 70 miles. Every wrecker was booked up for a week I’d bet.

That sure is a baffling wreck! Hard to figure out how the cab could get knocked off without damaging the hood or front of the trailer.
As a trucker myself that is wicked looking it's like how did that happen it looked like cab was just never attached to its frame I sure hope the driver is ok.

Its a breakaway cab
I think they were slammed into the rear by another truck going full speed. Causing and or nearly completing a jack knife, roll over 🔪 combo that tipped the passenger door and passenger side of the cab right into the guard railing. Ripping 30ft of it out. Which caused the Ripping of the cab off the air ride bags and cab mounts.
Im surprised police aren't guarding the truck.
I am surprised that there is nothing protecting the accident scene, cones, LE, etc and doubly surprised NO ONE guarding the trailer.
Considering the load is still on the trailer, I'm surprised there's no police presence.
How sad!
I love and appreciate all you truck drivers around the world who sacrifice ur lives to take care of your families and all of us who depend on you to deliver our every day needs so we can survive!

Anyone know how this happened? What caused it? And how the cab got completely removed from the frame and the hood not touched? I’m also a truck driver and this is definitely has me thinking! Prayers for anyone involved!
Nobody really knows how it happened only that this was a team operation and both drivers made it with minimal injury

@@2-18wheelsdaily This is pure speculation, but I think there must have been something wrong with the cab mounts. I couldn't tell by the footage if we were looking at an impact point for the entire rig or just the cab making contact. I've known of trucks that have failed inspection by having only two of the four cab mounts properly fastened. I've also witnessed trucks going down the road with abnormal cab bounce.
Even money is only worth so much. Do your pre-trips fellas! They matter.
@@kennethgoin628 thank you for your response! I also thought of that but looking at the trailer, I just could not make sense of what happened! The trailer also seems to have taken a very hard impact. That would be absolutely insane to be riding down the road at 70 MPH and the entire cap goes flying off!! Definitely possible for sure! Everyone please pray for me as I climb into the sleeper as we speak with a inexperienced rookie codriver! For the next 12.5 hours!

There was a crash a few years back in Missasauga, where the care hit a concrete divider barrier square on it's end at speed. The chassis was destroyed, the front 3/4 of the body separated from the chassis and rode along the top of the barrier while the chassis wound up in multiple pieces. More recently there was that Ferrari crash during a ride in the winding hills above LA. The Ferrari along with it's occupant were reduced to confetti.

As a truckdriver I started to notice some years ago more and more truck cabs coming off frame in wrecks. I was told the newer trucks were designed to do that for safety of the driver. I guess to get the driver away from the carnage or something. Never understood how it was safer. But I can tell u one of the deadliest types of crashes for a rig is to rearend another trucks trailer. Not many make it out of those. You have an average of 80thousand pounds stopped. When the truck hits it you have a 20thousand pound truck with 60 thousand pounds behind it in trailer and load not a good combo for the driver the truck cab gets sandwiched between all that weight and momentum.
all the cabs went from being solid mounting to the frame to riding on top of airbags. if the bags are old or in not so great shape they can shear off with a hard enough hit
I wouldn't of touched anything. Insurance Company that is investigating will be angry. Just saying.....be safe

I've been in worse, and I'm sad to say that the trucking business is money over matter.... It's their money, and your life doesn't matter to them. I found that out first hand. I pray that the driver heals and has a healthy life.
Amazing how poorly large cars do in a crash. Man I worked for would buy wrecks for the parts, seen some nasty ones.

@@blackwidowgarage7401 Key word, survived. Glad you did. In 2000 my fully loaded gas tanker was hit by a empty flatbed. First rain of the year, he was doing 45 around a 35 posted turn..trailer did a sweep into my lane hit the drivers side at about a 45 degree angle. No leaks, no fire. Didn’t get hurt much, had to buy new shorts.
Definitely a bad wreck but not the worst. Praying that everyone is ok. Never haul beer

I'd like to see the dash cam video of this wreck as it happened because I don't understand how this happened. My best guess would be the truck jack knifed so quickly the trailer sheared off the cab.
I saw a wreck near Kellogg Idaho yrs ago. Looks like the truck driver fell asleep. His truck and trailer rolled onto the right side and slid along a line of small trees 🌲. I watched as they loaded the cab of his semi onto a flatbed. It was in about 1000 pieces. Shredded by the trees as the loaded trailer momentum pushed it along.

The wreck probably happened there in that spot but the tower probably pushed the cab out of the way and moved the rest of the tractor/trailer from the street onto the shoulder. Hopefully the driver is okay. I didn’t see blood and gore

the cab looks like it probably got sheared off by the trailer jack knifing. I'm guessing the truck chassis and trailer were probably pulled out already by a tow truck which would explain why they are seen sitting straight with the back of the trailer in front of the truck chassis
Looks like (as the previous comment said) it started as a jacknife that tore the cab loose. Then, judging by the roof being crushed down on the passenger side, a roll over finished the job.

One of the few times drivers from my terminal in Tulsa refused to brave the weather.
They had this 72 yo XPO liftgate driver out in that ice in a 53' van doing residential deliveries.
Can`t believe you stopped on that busy highway just to look at a wreck that someone may have lost their life in. Just seems weird to me. Stay safe.

@@24juan68 That`s my point. And where was the police or a wrecker? Why would they leave a truckload of beer unattended? I`m not asking you, just thinking out loud. Can you imagine the force it took to separate the cab that far? Unbelievable.

I noticed the radio equipment was gone along with some other valuable items in that cab. You don’t want to be blamed for items gone missing! The crash is a active crime scene and the state troopers might be running thin on staff to cover the accident. The real surprised is all that beer is still there with Super Bowl coming up!

Completely unrelated topic: Anyone know what make and model that purple coupe is? I thought I would find it on google images with the split rear window, but no luck so far. Not sure on the year, but with it having the square blinkers in front and rear tail lights I was thinking 70's or 80's.

It definitely looks like he/she survived, that is amazing! I received several pics and video of this unit and even saw it in transit via dash cam. I am so puzzled as to how this even happened. Someone said they saw a truck jump a trailer that night after slamming into another truck. Not sure if it was this 1 or another. Black ice and anxious 4 wheelers are not a good mix.

was on I-40 in eastern Arkansas. Drove past that one going the other way. You would really be shocked at how little is actually holding the cabin sleeper unit to the frame of the truck
A few people had mentioned this is a design for safety, to minimize the impact on the driver
I hope the driver made it . Very odd , where is Law Enforcement , did they come and abandon the wreck scene ? They would stay on the scene until it was all cleaned up where I Live. That's odd.

The fact that the scene is unsecured & left there possibly for hours or days is even more bizarre than the wreck itself. And it looks like the team dragged it out from the ditch but didn't haul it away. The cab popped off as the tractor jackknifed & dug into the ground backwards. I'm retired otr 30 yrs seen some bad ones too.
I came back around the next week and they cleaned it up when the weather was better
This is what happens in a jack-knife..the tractor drive wheels spin or slip, the trailer keeps moving forward and spins the tractor so hard and so far the cab pinches into the trailer..thats why the cab was crushed on its passenger side, had it jack-knifed the other side the driver would have been crushed..usually the cabs don't come off, but tractors are made a lot lighter and more flimsy nowadays.. the wrecker pulled the front of the tractor to tow the wreck forward enough to clear the roadway but with the trailer broken open it couldn't be pulled far..thats why the cab-less tractor and trailer were up ahead on the shoulder. Did you notice the air lines were still attached?
