Andrew, once again you’re far too kind. I’m extremely grateful to have so many people enjoy what I do. It was designed to be silly, so I’m glad it makes people happy. However, it’s really nice when someone (like yourself) sees past the shenanigans, and notices some of the more subtle things. Now and again, you’ll read a comment like “He’s upstaging the singer. He’s not a team player.” To me that’s like saying “Jim Carey is way too funny. He should give the other actors a chance to be funny.” LOL If I was hired to play drums for Trace Adkins, I would NOT perform this way (unless he requested it). However, the band I was touring with at the time, was a fun, family show. The singer (Rick) and myself, were constantly tossing the ball back and fourth. That was part of the act.
I always wondered, in those videos you sometimes have a "pissed off" face, is it just part of the act, is it your "zone" face, or were you really pissed off at something?
Also, the only reason ALL drummers don't do what you are all the time, is because they can't! lol
Honestly man. I love it.
People/musos take themselves far too seriously IMO.
In the end we are there to entertain. And as you say it's dependent on the situation.
I've been playing drums a long time and I certainly can NOT do what you do. Therefore I'm not appropriate for this gig!!
Above all the actual drumming is really great.
Just be yourself right!? It's the best we can do :)
Andrew this is my third video of yours that I've been able to watch. Your first Steve Moore was how I came across your channel and of course subscribed.
I'm 55 and a little granny in the mountains. I've ALWAYS loved the drums and have fun playing around on a little Pearl. So glad to have noticed your channel, this particular video that you played was Steve's performance that shot this little ladies heart straight to the moon. He's a rocket that just keeps accelerating and bashing the stars out of the way.
I don't know of many professional drummers that I held in high regard, but I could think of a few: Keith Moon was one of the two that were up there for me, but after seeing Steve play that song, like that, no one could come close to him in my eyes. And that comes from someone that saw ZZ Top play in the 80's.
Steve, you're a very inspiring drummer, you keep flying through those stars and continue to pound out magic with your sticks.
Steve Moore, the only graduate of the Chris Farley school of drumming.
Absolute legend.
You are such a great performer Steve! I wish you would appear on Drumeo to share some of your tricks... the way you move with the sticks and manage to keep time is simply stunning. Drumeo is a great channel for the technical stuff and I am currently learning the drums ans watching it a lot - but you could bring a unique set of skills to share there with all the stick work. :p
Steve is a musician who just happens to be an entertainer to boot. Amazingly accurate, timely, and an absolute joy to watch.
100%
How can you not love this dude? Solid drumming, solid entertaining. Absolutely love it!
🙌
Love Steve’s drumming. He’s Animal from the Muppets brought to life. 😎
He's the best :)
This is exactly the thought I had when I first saw him! This is the real life Animal!
Wow! I hadn't thought of that! You're right!! LOL
I thought that was Shannon from godsmack
Exactly! Now I want to see him play for Rita Moreno!
It’s really great to see a drummer showboating outside of a dedicated solo. Viva la Mad Drummer
100% Jethro!
Not only impeccable timing, but he still keeps all the proper dynamics in check as well! Amazing! Love this shit! 😂
One thing to be a showman... another to play rock solid!
Nice to see someone who appreciates this guy as much as I do....crazy talented. Thanks for your professional input to a non drummer that just loves extremely talented individuals. Thanks and stay safe.
5:11 Either trying to get his jacket off... or trying to kill a fly, bwhahahaha.
HAHA Stanley!
I just don't know how he does this. He is obviously quite talented, and having a good time. My hat is off to you.
Yes Gary!
He still manages to get the time signature spot on! That’s what live music is all about, entertainment!
So he just came up with those moves on the spot while staying in time? That makes it even more impressive. Legend
YES!!
Steve Moore is definitely a very funny guy. In his comment on your last video on him, he says these antics came out of his boredom of playing the same old covers night after night. And he mentions that he really was only trying to amuse himself and that it was a little selfish of him. In a way he is right. Because he does steal the attention somewhat. I was thinking that while the guitarist was doing his solo. But then guitarists get lots of chances to do their solos. Lol. But you hit the nail on the head, when you mentioned his time. The only reason Steve can pull off his shenanigans is that his time is impeccable. If you close your eyes and just listen to his playing, at no point does the song waver or stumble. The other musicians can happily play on a solid foundation and not worry about having to adjust for any hiccups in the time. So while his antics may have begun out of a selfish desire to amuse himself, he remains unselfish in his dedication to making the song feel good and supporting the other musicians so they don't have to struggle to play the tune.
Basically what I am saying is that if a lesser drummer were to try to emulate Steve's antics and he started wavering in time or missing a beat here or there, the band would fire him in a heartbeat. The only reason Steve gets away with it (besides being ridiculously funny) is that he fulfills his first job as a drummer; to make the music feel good and help the band sound great.
I can't do what Steve does. For one thing, I'm a bit of a klutz. If I started flailing my arms around like that I would hit something for sure and the sticks would go flying out of my hands. I also don't have stereoscopic vision. So forget throwing the sticks in the air. I would rarely catch them, if ever! I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. If I used that much arm movement, I would be completely exhausted after one song. And while I'm always working on improving my time, there's no I could try to do any of that stuff without my time suffering. So it would be very selfish of me to try to incorporate some flashy moves in my drumming just to get a little attention. I'll leave that to the experts.
Great comment.
Well said Jake. I totally agree.
Music comes first. If you have the headroom to entertain beyond that... get stuck in!!
I seem to remember reading somewhere that he’s an accomplished metal drummer! To play like that with so much “show” you’ve got to be good! Playing music should be enjoyable and if you can entertain the audience at the same time.
to the beginer drummers watching Steve do his thing, and wondering "how?"
Practice, Practice, Practice. And keep an open mind as to what your role as a drummer is.
Love ya Steve, keep blowing peoples minds with your talents.
Yup plenty of time in the saddle.
Play great... but don't forget you are meant to entertain!
The way this man works a hi-hat is unbelievable.
Yup he's the man!
Mr. Mad Drummer is just an event to watch again and again... thanks a lot. I can't play drums, and seeing Steve Moore I feel like I'm watching the very secrets of them... Mastery! Just cannot get tired haha. Great!
cant stop cracking up! not many times in life have I smiled so much it starts to hurt. I wish there was a drug to take to make me feel this kind of joy more often!
When drumming is too easy so you have a lot of time to do all the tricks. xD
I have never seen a drummer enjoying the music so hard and entertain
Ladies and gentlemen, the stunned Rooney.
The best Rooney some say...
I love him to the moon and back. My favorite drummer....Love.
He’s great fun Cindy! 👌
Huge respect to this amazing entertainer he made me laugh . After 2 hours with my neurosurgeon I needed a pick me up.
Thanks again . 👍🏻☮❤peace and love brother as always . 😊👍🏻
Oh wow. All the best!!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums
Thanks Andrew , it's ok it's not sinister just kept me off work 7 months so far . Trying out new meds now. But I must say how great it's been to watch your videos. It's a little light relief and keeps me determined to play again . Albeit drums bass and vocals when I'm back in the swing .
So understand you are a factor in my recovery and inspiring my drive to play again.
Peace and love brother 👍🏻☮❤
What I loved was around 4:50 he hits the hi-hat with the tip of the drumstick then the base of it. I.m not a drummer, but I love this guy.
I haven't laughed so hard in a looooong time. Brilliant stuff!
LOVE IT
He's BRILLIANT! and I'm not a fan of drumming, but I could watch him all day long x
There's a video on here with Steve playing good old rock n roll (with blue suit jacket ) and he catches drum sticks while playing drums from the singer
That version above has gone now. There is one (same song) with mad steve moore on it.
Watch how many times Steve hits those snares with the back end of the stick pretty cool
Unless you REALLY watch closely you will miss the hand movements, amazing. Thanks for the big smile you gave me Steve.
My pleasure!
This guy is pure energy 😂
LOVE IT
Love the drumming, I would do the same stuff but in an 80's Hard Rock band. But the guitar player is tearing it up too!
Lol luv the content! I watch every video you make. As a drummer of 24 years and being able to learn something new every day is why I love the drums so much! I've been introduced to so many amazing drummers and bands thru your channel. Would love to see you do a video or 2 of the Wackerman brothers. Both of them are super talented. Brooks is with Avenged Sevenfold and HE CAN PLAY!
That is awesome!
I hope to check them out
LOVE YOU STEVE ....!!!!!!
We all do Stephanie!
I know I'm late to the comments, but... the world needs an Animal V. Mad Drummer drum battle.
Yes Ken!
In reference to the "drum stick elevator"
I believe he is doing the wind up monkey drumming toy from waaaaay back.
Would love to see your comments and reaction to him playing Proud Mary, I almost peed my pants. Love him so much.
And the video mentioned has now been viewed 53 million times.
I agree with you.. he is brilliant
Have seen his live shows about 10 times, and have an autographed madd drummer tee shirt
Yes Dale! 🙌
I'm glad you offer content for non-drummers and mere mortals like me, this was great! Let's not forget your faux-intro was funny too (I actually fell for it)...!
HAHA!!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I know, I know, this is so OFF TOPIC, please forgive...but, Andrew, your doumbek is about to fall off your mantel...Thanks for indulging me...I hope this made you chuckle...
I’m laughing and the other people in my office think I’ve gone mental.
That's great Christopher! HAHA
can you imagine being the drummer in the band that has to follow this guy on stage?
Yey, first comment, thanx for the great content.
Always happy to see your vídeos!
Great!
No one ever just went to see Rick K, they all came to see the GOAT of drumming Steve Moore aka The Mad Drummer!! ❣️❣️
Quite the show!
He's one of the best lmao. Very entertaining.
Steve Moore, hats off to the guy, to do that and keep time, awesome funny highly talented 🤘😎. PS. Is this where you put in requests?
Hey Declan! Requests only via paypal these days due to demand sorry :)
Ah.. OK. I'll look into that 🤘😎. Psst.. Liquid tension experiment.. Acid rain(Mike Portnoy, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess and Tony Levin on Chapman stick.. Live in LA. Check it out yourself 🤘. Sorry for my cheekyness
Drums... Comedy... Skill... Perfect
Yes!
There's that smile on my dial😂👍
Yes!
I think the video where him and the singer are supposed to be fighting over his playing is completely hilarious it's comic gold if you haven't seen it you need to check it out
I'd like to hear some of his metal band drumming!
This guy has my respect, because with all his madness HE STILL KEEPS TIME BETTER THAN LARS! lol Didn't miss a beat either!
ROFLMAO 😹
Gotta love the Lars bashing! Lol
He has great time :)
Hi! Nice reaction as always. What about that Old Spice commercial with Terry Crews playing drums with his muscles? By his muscles I mean his chest, legs, arms, abs and back. It would be funny if you react to it. Is really short, like 2 minutes.
Great idea!
Mad, mad Skills🤯💯
Yes Liz!
its all brilliant
Love it
He is amazing!
Yes Mick. Mr Entertainment
I think the word you were looking for is "authentic". Devoid of pretense despite the flamboyant antics.
Loved this. You're comments were on point.
Keep coming with the names for the moves. The Elevator, the Visor... So are we settling on "The Reluctant Sweater" for the one move?
Authentic is a great word. Well said Daniel!
I take it mt your gona put some of those freckin awesome moves in to your acts amazeballs vid
I wish Michael!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums yeah hes gota a rare talent mt.
He is definitely a MAD DRUMMER 🤣👍
HAHA James! Yup
I always looked at it like if I have time to practice twirling a stick I have time to practice something else... idk perhaps it helps keep time. Maybe I have been wrong this whole time
He can do both!
Mad Drummer: [drums 1 song]
Also Mad Drummer: [loses 17 lbs]
My goodness, ever hear of a "goone ride?" This is "goon drumming" at it best!
I'm not a drummer but to me it seems he never gets off beat at all
Steve Moore I hope you read this comment comment you are a fucking ninja with those sticks man
The man is a drumming genius
I love it bro
The lead guitars pretty good as well. In fact the whole band is excellent.
Andrew.... a drummers special. Watch dueling drummers.... Gobsmack! Shannon Larkin is their drummer and Sully Erna is their lead singer. They have 2 drum kits and due a drum battle. NO WAY YOU WONT LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Check it out!
When I was younger, at college, about 40 years ago, I knew someone who could flick a pen around his fingers and catch it when it came round. I'm pretty sure Steve is doing the same thing with his sticks.
ROFL… endlessly entertaining!
Just too good Mark!
I don't know how he does it, must be exhausting!!! If i tried any of the windmill moves I would dislocate my shoulders!
Me too!
The Mad Drummer is an absolute Martial Artist on them skins!!!
Neal Peart?
Buddy Rich?
Who?
SMOOOOOOOOVE!
Yes!
That robot thing is so stinkin hard!! I mean, all of it is but that’s crazy switching from leading with the left to right and back n forth……
Totally Rob! Easy to underestimate this level of antics
❤
Freakin NUTS! LOL
HAHA!
Legend.
Holy shi*t he was on an episode of The Office.
Yes!!!
Steve is really a good drummer.
Still to this day I'm still wondering what if the band was at the wrong drummer ?
HAHA Simon!!!
Imagine if Neil Peart had moves like these 🤣
🤣👌
I saw Ray Cooper for the first time in 1995 on Elton's tour of South America. It was surreal. He was as good at his craft as was Elton at his. It's not a competition but becomes a phenominal entertainment experience.
No offense to the band, but Steve needs more exposure. He is in the same league as Cooper at his game.
Steve's had a lot of exposure though!
I agree he's awesome
rim shot the floor tom. can be done on all toms as well, i like the sound it makes. destroys my sticks tho.
Yes!
How is better? Steve Moore or Estepario Siberiano?
Love both :)
I wouldn’t call it comic gold… I would call it bad ass period… show me another drummer who can keep time like that…I would give almost anything to learn from this guy… been watching him for about a year now… made me want to play the drums.. got my set about a month ago..
Great to hear George!
Is it the guy who did a cameo in "The Office" ?
Yes apparently!!
We want Moore!
'WE WANT MOORE'
EVERYBODY NOW!!!
Gene Krupa? Buddy Rich? They ain't got nothin' on this guy! Ringo... eat your heart out. :)
I'm 53 yo I've been slapping the skins since I was 12. Any one that can't appreciate what Steve does is jealous or just plain stuck up. Obviously Steve has the skills to play what's necessary no matter what that may be.
Yes Chuck. Love Steve 🥁🙌
11:20 can you imagine someone complaining to the drum teacher how boring it is to hear the same annoying old song hundreds of times over and over again😂😂😂😂. Love Steve’s fun spin on these songs.
100%!!!
Spice it up. If you are bored, the crowd is bored
@@AndrewRooneyDrums right on. Coffee forever brother!
Have not watched it yet....no reining in possible with this drummer.
LOVE IT!
I feel Wonkavator would be more accurate!
The Mad Drummer aka Steve Moore has just posted a new video on his RUclips channel ❣️. Check him out
You said you were surprised at all the positive comments. The theatrics aside (and I love the theatrics) talent is talent. I rather watch Steve Moore having fun and playing at his killer level than watch a boring drum machine drummer who has played the song a million times and is bored out of his mind, and it shows on his face. That look on the bored drummer's face frequently comes across as smug. One of my all-time favorite drummers was Phil Collins because, he knew how to have fun and at the same time play the hell out of the drums. I just recently discovered Steve Moore, and now he is up there with Phil Collins in my book.
Oh did I say that John?
I must have meant pleasantly surprised.
I've heard jealousy (dressed up as criticism) of Steve and it annoys me. Because as you say he is an entertainer and killer drummer to boot!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Yes you were making the point of being surprised at not having a lot of haters making stupid comments. I did not mean to infer that you were surprised that he got positive comments like he did not deserve them. I have seen comments about artists both singers and instrument players of all kinds of instruments that were fantastic but because they did something different or entertaining while performing the comments would be something such as "Oh he isn't a serious drummer or guitarist or what ever". I was glad to see you actually giving Mr. Moore his due and props. I enjoy your reactions and all your videos, so thanks for doing them. Oh and I would love seeing your reaction to Adam Rupp the beatboxer for the vocal band Home Free. There is a video Home Free's Adam Rupp beatbox solo.
@@bigjohn962 Thanks for clarifying!
I'd hate for anyone to think I'm out there critiquing any drummer.
And thanks for the recommend!
ruclips.net/video/QfMFrpa66TI/видео.html for a drum solo from him at Woodstick 2010. There's also a version from left side of him. this one is from the front.
Andrew, not sure if you have seen this video of Steve, but it is great too. Enjoy the man's style! ruclips.net/video/IFV_dBfzLMk/видео.html
Thanks John!
🔥🔥🔥🚒👩🚒🔥🔥🧯
not elevator its the toy monkey drummer
Look at this video with 1,5x speed
My computer or brain would explode LOL
Is Steve Moore channeling KEITH MOON.? Not the wrong gig. The wrong decade! This is where the art of drumming showmanship excels. Sitting as Ringo or Charlie just looses it. Carlos Santana has his magnificent wife. Sorry I cannot continue after seeing her live. 🇦🇺
The guitarist playing the main riff wrong bothers me.
Andrew, you should really have a look at Steve at Woodstick 2010: ruclips.net/video/QfMFrpa66TI/видео.html
Meth.
Not even once.
Shut up and let him play the video, and then comment after
Great tips!
This would be truly lame if the drumming wasn't stellar. What I don't get is how he's playing with this much energy for so long with so many clothes on. Seems like hyperthermia would set in pretty quickly
HAHA Debi! He's a wonder :)
