- Hey Guys,
Today I head out to Napoleon Hill and get my ass kicked! I was extremely unprepared for this and it was well above my skill and fitness level! Anyway hope you enjoy.
Check out Chris birches video to see how easy he does it!

“A” for effort Dan! What an amazing route!
It sure was. Thanks for watching!
Well you wanted adventure, you sure got it! Well done for owning up to you weaknesses, and a big thank you to the four wheel crowd! I’m turning 65 next month and enjoy solitude on the bike. Thankfully I had the brains to turn around, not attempt hard tracks recently. dirt road through beautiful country sure is attractive! I’ll leave rivers to the fish.
Keep safe Pierre
Good effort. We've all been there. Part of the ADV experience. You guys did awesome.
Bloody, great video film. Shame about the jacket. But the adventure for our viewing makes up for it😂. Awesome track.
Thanks for watching!
WOW! That was a rough day! There's no way I'd try to go through some of that stuff you did. I'm sure you didn't get up that morning and say, "Hey, I think I'll ride my DR up and down IN the river!" That was some absolutely gorgeous scenery, though. I'm glad you didn't get injured and thank you for this video.
Thanks for watching Tony. It was a day to remember for sure
Awesome!
Loved it Dan !🙏🙏🙏
Cheers Greg!
What an effort Dan. It looks like a nightmare to me, I would not be up for it on my bike at all. Very much a character building day.
Definitely wouldn't recommend taking the super ten there. It was good fun looking back on it and I will be heading back next year for sure
Good effort mate, could see you were out of your comfort zone. You did well!!! Practice makes perfect keep it up.
Hi Dan, sorry to admit this but I had a bit of a giggle while I watched this mate. I think most riders have been in this exact scenario where the track has beaten the hell out of us and proclaimed it the worst day on the bike ever. All good though and experiences like this one will just make you a much better rider. I dropped my KTM950 Super Enduro in a deep creek once and then froze for the rest of the day because I’d done a full underwater summersault on the dismount. Haha - great memories are made by getting off the couch and out of our comfort zones. Thanks for the video mate.
Haha, no worries I laughed watching it back also! I will be back and try again! Haha sounds fun! Yes always good memories looking back on these things.
Stella effort lads, well done for pushing through it. Nothing easy about that track. Awesome scenery, unforgettable adventure riding...
Thanks for watching! Definitely one we won't forget!
Hi Dan, hope you've recovered from that ordeal. I found that difficult to watch, from the comfort of my living room. Will it make you think twice about doing it again though? Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching, haha if you asked me on the day or the day after I would say never again. But looking back it was fun I would definitely go again. Maybe not on the Dr though a lighter bike would be nice
That was a mighty effort Dan.
I could feel the panic and dodgy decisions flooding through me. Agh the memories...no thanks😂.
😂😂
Is your home town Christchurch ? Well, I think that was an incredible effort that has done you a great deal. I bet your riding skills have jumped up a level or two after that. Truthfully, I ws laughing hard while admiring your persistance. What ever the make of bike you are riding is impressive. To literally sink it numerous times and the darn thing just starts right back up is amazing engineering. Note to myself..... don't by your bike when you come to sell it !! Thanks so much for sharing and keep them coming. We live in such a great country. 10/10 for the video. 10000 / 10 for your commitment. A memory forever. Priceless !! So glad you did not cut out the footage of your challenges.
Thanks for watching and your comments 🙂 I am in Ashburton. The bike is fine had no side effects at all to the drowning Drs are built strong. Hoping to get back there this year and give it another Crack 😆
Great effort man. I know the rage that can so easily take over when you keep getting your butt kicked. But you stuck it out! Hope you went and had a pint after that day!
It was all good on the end. Still had fun. Actually put up my tent and went straight to sleep!
Just remember your worst day on a motorbike is still better than a good day at work. I had Napolean Hill on my bucket list for the T7 but watching that I'm thinking Hell nah, don't want to pick a T7 up 20 times. Well done.
For sure 😁 😂 Yea I wouldn't do that track on my Dr again not with my skill level 😂
The heat builds up lifting these Drs up just once let alone 20 times.Great Video, and to be calm enough to record the crossings .....I always get an adrenalyn nervous rush and forget to record anything knarly like that.I was hot just watching !! What month was this?
It sure does. Quite a heavy bike after a few falls! This was end of April.
Awesome stuff Dan. U got better as the track went on. Good learn experience. We’ve all been there 👍
Thanks for watching. Definitely a big learning experience! I will go back one day and try again.
Hey Daniel, check the scenery out, mate it’s pretty awesome 👍
The good old tree over the road trick 😜
Damn that’s a river crossing!!
Mean tracks and cool tunnel 😎
Really enjoyed this one mate
Cheers
Thanks Christian!
Man, that was hard work just watching, I bet you ached like buggery the next day 🫣 The mighty DR keeps on keeping on though! Good stuff mate. ATB Jason 👍
Sure did😂 Cheers Jason
You just reminded me why I never want to ride that track again! I followed mates in there that had far greater skills than me, I struggled too on a DR, but never drowned it, the water level was lower though
It was a lot harder than I was expecting also! How ever I will definitely return and try and do better!
Crazy fun (started to get painful watching for you guys) going up what seems like a river bed. Looks like Tasmanian forests a bit but close to civilisation.
I know I shouldn't of but every time you fell over I was pissing my self laughing, hopefully doing that in the next month or so, worth a trip into Big River while you're in that area as well
Haha that is ok! I was laughing too watching it back. Haven't been there before I will look it up and head there next time I am over!
That was a great watch Dan. I enjoyed a no frills straight into it video and it had me on the edge of my seat big time. There's a lot to be said having a carburettor. I'm curious, did your oil got contaminated? Kiwiadventurer.
Thanks for watching, Yea i agree. It would take alot to stop the Dr. Surprisingly the oil was clean I dropped it as soon as I got home.
That was one hell of a ride Dan, to much water for me. You must have been exhausted, but saying that looked like an awesome adventure.
Sure was, slept well that night anyway!
Adventure should also be about fun, at least you can say you accomplished it …. but for me it’s about enjoyment. Glad your mate was there to help on a much lighter bike
Yes I agree. It was great fun to begin with the rest not so much but looking back it wasn't that bad haha. Yes for sure I wouldn't do anything like that on my own I would have still been stuck down there! Lighter bike is very tempting for me after this track, he is also a much more skilled rider.
Hell ya man. Great adventure. Great bike. If anything this trip was hard proof you really cant kill a dr by drowning it. I wonder how many modern bikes would have quit after the second dip..?
Thanks for watching, no you really can't kill the Dr. I changed oil when home also and it was clean! No water present.
THAT! was brutal to watch, for all kinds of reasons. I actually turned it off at one point but couldn't help going back to it. Man.....what a ride! Would really like to know if the bike was usable after that many miles with water for oil. Would be a good testament to the ol' thumper.
It's was pretty epic ride. Bike was fine no signs of water in the oil drained it when I got home after another 600kms. No issues at all with the bike just keeps going.
Epic ride Dan, great footage, thanks for that, hows the DR holding up ?
Thanks for watching. Dr is great few extra scratches but can't complain about that.
Bro…that was crazy. Maybe head back in summer when the water level is a bit lower 😅. Awesome effort tho
Yea for sure haha! Thanks for watching
Always love watching your videos mate. Keep up the good work
Too much "adventure"! I'm exhausted just watching.
Haha, thanks for watching!
Awesome!! I'm so keen to try try that track but looks like a mission 😁Easier after a dry spell? Great work getting trough 👍
Sure your crfs will love it. Unsure the farmer said when its dry the rivers are very slippy with algae. After a storm it all washes away. So unsure on that maybe a happy medium between dry and then the conditions I had. Haha. Will definitely go back although ideally on a lighter bike. The hardest track I have ever done by a long shot.
@@MOTODANS Yeah.. the T7 would be just way too much for our skills. Great video. Hope there is a part 2!?
I just subscribed based on the misery factor alone lol. If I was going to do that crap id get a little klx 140 kids bike or something. I think a dr is just to heavy for that kind of riding.
Thank you lol. I agree, I have since bought a klx300 should be much more suited!
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Oh man, at 2:56 that's us in the 4wds!
Next time you should turn right just after the fallen tree you rode under, follow forestry roads and do the second half of noname road it's much easier, maybe grade 2.
I have ridden the whole noname on xr150. But the river was much lower
We will go back at some point and retry!
^ I edited.
Also, Big River near Reefton would be a good one
@@mofm1639 Cheers will look that one up!
Those are the days you will always rember , good work 😂 shame about the jacket
For sure! 😂 Thanks for watching.
You must have been rooted after all that work! Pity you didn't see the jacket and get it out. That was like watching someone getting deep fried and battered.
Certainly was! We were planning on doing another day of similar tracks after but we just went home the next day😂 Nope never seen it again unfortunately!
@@MOTODANS The irony is your paid $20 bucks. You'll remember that all your life now, and can say I did it!
Hey mate - is it possible to do a follow up video on what you should do to your bike after drowning it a few times? I’d imagine changing oil and filters is a priority but what about head stem bearings or linkage bearings or draining fuel tank etc? Just thought it would be interesting to see how far you have to go if the bike has been underwater.
Hey Neville, have been asked a few times about this I will do a video soon and put it up 👍
Tunnel missed at 10 minutes 18 seconds in, you fall where the utes are, it's there on your left. Love that track, last time in there the exit river was very very slimey. Enjoy your videos.
It's obvious when you point it out haha! Will need to go back. Think we were to focused on the Utes. Yes I have heard it gets slimey. Thanks for watching
@@MOTODANS I've never gone in with the river so high as you found, we used to circle back up a steep track back to the farmhouse instead of exiting via the river, people who run the land that the other track is on changed and now waterwheel man sends everyone out the river, it took us ages to get out too, we walked bikes across lots of parts, soo slippery.
We planned to go out that other way but I couldn't get ahold of the station. Must have had the old number if it has changed recently. Glad we didn't have it slippy! I would have fell off a lot more 😂
@@MOTODANS so just spoke to my man Adventure Guide, previously Remote Moto, the phone number on there is current but the man is indeed difficult to reach.
@@transalpernz Good to know. That is where I got the number from👍
🙏🏻 🌟 🙏
I never liked those big top heavy adventure bikes. I converted a Suzuki DR 2oo farm bike into an adventure bike. Lower lighter best offroad on road adventure bike I've ever had.
awesome.....
We have all been there. Its a pity you couldn't have left your luggage somewhere before attempting the track
We did think about it but luggage was fairly light. I was 13kg all up. May have been better trying it with minimal fuel. We had just filled the tanks 40kms before the start
@@MOTODANS Even though I'm 1.8m tall I ran my DR650 in lowered mode (used your excellent lowering howto BTW) and it gave me a lot more confidence off road - I wouldnt have thought a 40mm? drop could make so much difference
Hmm that's an idea. You are taller than me. Wonder how I would have done on that track lowered as ground clearance wasn't an issue on this one.
Yeah I've had days like that. Bloody mossy rocks @#$%^&*() slippery as great track. Is it my imagination or are 4WDs in Sth Island better bred than North Island? They don't seem to get their kicks from digging huge holes. Be a great track in warmer months with maybe less rain?
😅
Haha, it was actually fun looking back on it. Hmm some are there are a lot of tracks that are rutted out also. The farmer maintains this track . I am not sure on that either I have been told by a few people when the water was lower the rocks are covered in algae and it's very slippy!
We had a great time going through Napoleon Hill also. Was a bit of a challenge in some areas, especially navigating the river bed downsteam to the exit. So many slippery rocks! Here's the video for comparison - ruclips.net/video/kwpTrbsXD48/видео.html
Wow just had a look amazing how the place changes!
Nice!
Thanks for watching!
Im wondering how your engine oil ended up after taking on so much water ?
It was fine. I drained it when I got home. No signs of any water at all
650 Pigs, look like so much ‘fun’ Dan. 🙄😉😂
😂
Worst day of my life on the bike 😂😂😂
Looking back it was actually quite fun 😂😂😂😂
That looked hard work lol 😆
Sure was Jim! Haha
Yes watch it till the end that was madness on a dr650 the creek crossing where madness you did well to get to the end well done 👏 got myself a suzuki v Strom sx250 pretty cool 😎 really enjoying it riding it to work everyday 😀 going in for frist service tomorrow going to take the demo 800 DE out for a test ride tomorrow 😀 👍🏻
@@jimdoolan2277 You change bikes more than the weather changes Jim! Although i have to say been looking at the 800DE to it is very tempting. Let me know what you think of the ride
4 sale low kilometer lightly used DR. Some light scratches.
It's what the bike is intended to be used for
@@MOTODANS they as good as the old "E G" XT600
Good times few droppped bike that’s what it’s about put the ks in
Such an adventure. Sorry about the jacket
Its all good haha. Still yet to replace it. Can't decide!
@@MOTODANS What’s on your shortlist?
@@motogusnz Not going high end again that mosko jacket is now over $1000. Looking at either the Drrider Adventure or the Motodry adventure trekker. Leaning towards the Motodry.
@@MOTODANS sorry on the lost jacket, especially given the replacement $. Interesting on the Motodry. I must check that out.
If you not fulling off your not learning' rusty dr will keep going
Looks like you needed a jet boat not a motorcycle
That would be fun!
