When they're gone and the heart is pumping cold Another burnt offering in worship of the toll Paid at way-stations long a lonesome road Kick the stirrup and write an empty soul Kiss and forget is how it began Pizza then photos, Love letters in the sand Empty buildings in an empty town Knot the hollow life and make a hollow sound A promise of a holiday And you can travel Scrapped and clawing Knocked out of the saddle Forgive and forget its time to make amends Bury the hammer Forgive and forget its time to make amends You smile that its okay You turn and walk away How many times can you start again? For the pleasure of light and kisses on the wind When you love another one, but you can't have em Bleak sunshine Makes you sadder Bury the hammer Forgive and forget Its time to make amends There is no one Bury the hammer
That surfy little riff is so short and obscenely simple, but it's so damn good ❤️ And the little touch of quiet xylophone(?) in the bg? Some kinds of sonic brilliance.
Since I first heard this song 10 or so years ago I have often thought of it as "Barry the hammer" but thought of "The Hammer" as being some kind of ham-related occupation, like a butcher who only works with ham.
music really doesn't get much better than this.
seriously, this song changed my life in '92.
Anyone else still here listening to this and loving it in 2024 like me? 👍
Sad how this kind of music will never be again.. I miss the old days :'(

When they're gone and the heart is pumping cold
Another burnt offering in worship of the toll
Paid at way-stations long a lonesome road
Kick the stirrup and write an empty soul
Kiss and forget is how it began
Pizza then photos, Love letters in the sand
Empty buildings in an empty town
Knot the hollow life and make a hollow sound
A promise of a holiday
And you can travel
Scrapped and clawing
Knocked out of the saddle
Forgive and forget its time to make amends
Bury the hammer
Forgive and forget its time to make amends
You smile that its okay
You turn and walk away
How many times can you start again?
For the pleasure of light and kisses on the wind
When you love another one, but you can't have em
Bleak sunshine
Makes you sadder
Bury the hammer
Forgive and forget
Its time to make amends
There is no one
Bury the hammer

this should be the theme for the kid's show "Barry the hammer"
If all u have is a hammer, everything begins to look like a nail
