Eric, You posted this about a week before the check engine light came on in the lady's car. We read the code, but seeing how it was an evap code, she took it to a shop that almost rhymes with "liar's home" for diagnosis. Tech said the sensor was reading incorrect voltage, and recommended replacement of the fuel pump assembly, which they had listed as 1.8 hours of labor. Total parts and labor cost, $700+. I replaced the pressure sensor on the ground in the driveway in less time than that, for 25 bucks. I enjoy your vids, your timing was perfect on this one. P.S. She took her car to that same shop for state inspection, failed for license plate bulbs being out. Said they looked at them, one bulb was burst, the other was burned out and the sockets were severely corroded. Wanted to charge for bulb replacment, socket replacement, and pigtail rewiring for $150. I pulled broken bulb out with pliers, cleaned the socket with some adhesive backed sandpaper on a flathead screwdriver, replaced bulb and a blown fuse.. cost a little over 5 bucks. Glad to see from your vids you don't run that kind of shop. You're the man!

My kids car died one day he had it towed to the same brand shop they wanted to replace all kinds of stuff for $1700. Had it towed to a Scotty type guy who fixed it for $400. Can't recall if distributor or ignition module but it was some simple to replace part.
There a better way to trouble shoot that problem . The purge solenoid is not suppose to be open all the time if it is you will get these issues. Its all vacuum related. Test light will tell if u got a good ground for the solenoid.
As usual your diagnosis is efficient and accurate. Pinpointing problems until you're 100% certain is a display of experience and discipline. Actually I will admit that after watching these videos, I've become so much faster at diagnosing electrical stuff. So all your rambling is actually very helpful haha!
Just rewatched this because a 2006 Impala came in to my shop "Parking lot" with the same Evap Code Advance had pulled a PO496 too but when it got to me it wasn't there and it also had a Fuel Trim limit reached. I checked the Purge and Vent with the Purge and Seal car chugged but tank sensor never changed it was fixed at 12.66 mmhg and 0.22 volts. Dropped the tank unplugged the sensor went to zero plugged the new one and it went to 1.49 volts. Ran the purge and seal again and all was well. I also gotta plug Eric's video on Malibu runs like poo this Impala also had -18% on Long Term the Alcohol Content was at 22% reset the Fuel Composition and the Impala runs great. My pressure sensor read about the same as this one did at the beginning (-1.6 give or take) with the key on engine off. I checked it because you mentioned that it should read 0 in that condition. I got to thinking about it, though, and realized that if there was negative pressure in the tank when the vehicle was shut off, and the tank is sealed, then there should still be that negative pressure. I opened the gas cap, put it back on, and sure enough, the pressure sensor read 0. I am, however, still watching the rest of the video to see if I can figure out the source of my problem. Thank you so much for your time and effort making these videos, I sincerely appreciate it.
had the P0446 on my Pontiac Montana. Didn't have any of the tools to diagnose the problem but thanks to this video and the one you did on the pickup truck for the same code I took a chance and replace the sensor with a wells sensor and it cured my check engine light. I did have to drop the tank which wasn't an issue but was able just to reach up and switch the sensor all by feel. Thanks for the great DIYs

I like how you checked the wiring before throwing a part at it and hoping that solves the problem. Yes, A sensor may fail but it can also be the wiring. I am humble enough to always learn more so keep the videos coming. Great Content!

I like your videos a lot and they are very helpful. As a hint that may help you in the future there is an access to the fuel pump under the back seat. If you pop the bottom part of the back seat out, which only requires a hard yank, the panel is close to the center of the seat pan and has a couple of screws holding it in. Also most cars have the same thing. May save you some good time on pump replacements.

i know this is a 2015 vid but i really appreciate all the "fine details/thorough explanations" on the how, why, and where, etc.. now, with my 2001 buick century 3.1l, i have a po446. i only have a simple code reader. i tested ground/power/solenoid operation on the purge solenoid w/multimeter and jumper wire, checked out ok, will test the vent solenoid next for same thing, i "guess" my gas cap is fine although i don't really hear that much of a fizz when i open it, and with this video, i have a strong feeling it will be the pressure sensor on tank (my luck). no ez access under back seat/trunk, will have to lower backside of tank on ground like the one comment you got. would be easier to get access to sensor from back side, which leads into my question as to why you lowered tank on front side as opposed to back side??? you had to stretch further from front side since the fuel pump was located more to rear side. fuel line in the way?? i would like to know ahead of time b4 i start. anyways, this has been the most helpful video about this issue than all the other vids i searched/viewed. broke shade tree mechanics have to do what we can with what we got. thanks, south main.
Hey, this is late but the back seats on your car do come out. You have to take the lower part out first, it is snapped in. Once you do that, the back in is held on by 4 or 5 18mm bolts and nuts due to a seat belt bracket, 2 10mm nuts and clips on the top just as the bottom portion of the seat was clipped in. These top clips make it hard to pull this backside of the seat off but you have to kind of put force on it. Once you do that, you can pull back the carpeted area covering the access panel. Ive done this on 1999-2005 Century due to fuel pump issues. As for your mystery p0446, did the sensor correct it?
Hi Eric! So what a coincidence. I just had this same code on a 2008 Malibu ! Customer brought the car in complaining of long crank and the smell of fuel. Well i pull it in and could definitely smell the fuel. Didnt really get the long crank but the car was warm. So i hook up the solus pro that our shop has provided for the two of us and this code comes up as well as p0430 and intake cam position sensor bank 2 cant remember the p0 number . So my first step was to raise the car and see if i could determine why the strong smell of fuel. Get the car up in the air and find fuel wetness on the right rear of the tank. Pretty much says i gotta drop the tank. Oh one thing that the code description was a restriction in the evap system. So Im thinking broken evap line on the top of the fuel tank and i was also thinking tank pressure sensor ( not the first time ive encountered this). Anyway get tank down and find a puddle of fuel all around the fuel pump but couldn't see where it was coming from thought maybe bad oring seal? Well my partner comes over and takes a look and finds the fuel pump outlet line has a very small crack( he has much better sight than i do) lol. So fuel pump would be the first fix which i completed and the customer ok'd the cam sensor as well. When i get all done i leave the exhaust off the car just in case i need to go back . I clear the codes and run the car for quite a while and keeping an eye on the evap data. Ran it for quite some time and codes never came back . One note though i do believe the cat code is going to return the 02 sensor #2 was switching much faster than bank 1. The customer did not ok the catalytic converter repair. Anyway was really surprised when i seen you put up the same code i just dealt with Thursday . I watch your channel every night and learn so much from it. especially how to torque to factory spec lolol. Just want to say thank you and i appreciate you putting the time in to help us others. I enjoyed the video. I have a 2008 Impala 3.9 and even when the check engine light is not displayed error code P0446 it is difficult to put fuel into the tank, gas pump nozzle clicks a lot on fill-up. I like the Wells replacement part you used. I noticed right away that the seal had more levels of sealing (layers) than the original part, a better design. I will subscribe. Thanks.
at around 17:50 right above the fuel pump area it looks like a round thing that may be an access hole into the trunk. I'm no mechanic but just an observation.
Good stuff..... All the voltage testing talk while you were on the scanner had me dizzy. I guess I know what I'll be learning next: how voltage works in sensors, and the testing methods.
Darren G. - Get scanner danner's book, it has very good teaching methods plus the book can be used as a reference guide to always have on hand. Understanding theory is much better than having to rely on engineer's flow charts. You won't be disappointed.

only saving grace is since the car 1999, Mass no longer does the emission check on it during its annual safety inspection but I am getting very tired of staring that CEL all the time. The cost of the EVAP canister for that car exceed the value of the car!
Love those evap problems. Now here in Wisconsin we have to go through emissions every year. They're trying to get the old cars off the road I think. Make people get tired of fixing those yearly evap codes.
Eric; For verifying the operation and accuracy of a gas tank pressure transmitter have you considered making up a filler cap with a pressure connection? This could then be connected to a low range pressure gauge or a manometer which would verify the operation and or accuracy of the pressure transmitter, as well using this same connection you could increase or decrease the tank pressure for further testing.
Wow that's a skinny fuel tank... I'm accustomed to pulling the big bulky ones that are always full!😖 And can't use the fuel pumps like you used to and use the pump to pump out the gas, dang I miss the old classics

Love your videos. I have an 07 GMC Yukon 5.3L. It throws a P0446 and occasionally a P0451. I have personally replaced the vent solenoid, purge solenoid, and hose leading to the purge solenoid. The check engine light keeps coming back with a P0446 code every week to week and a half. Garage can't find any leaks with the smoke machine. All parts are OE. I'm lost on this one and would love your opinion. Thanks again for all your videos.
Check power and ground. If that passes, check for corroded wires. Start at the connector and give wires a stern tug. If there is corrosion in the line it will no doubt break with ease. If yhe wire isnt corroded, it will not snap with a tug.
Great info Eric. Thought your video on EVAP was my life saver, but something else is going on. 2007 Impala throwing P0172(Rich bank 1),but the only monitors not finishing are EVAP. Short term -3.1%------Long term -21.1%. EVAP purge 0%...Alcohol fuel 50.2%. All o2's check out.. Do you make house calls? LOL What gives?

Great video! Those GM security systems are junk. Our Blazer left the wife on the side of the road this past winter in -20 c...... Oh well now she has a MDX.
motoYam82 Don't worry it has already started to fail. It wont be long then it is back in the shop. I am starting to think it is a GM based on how often it has to go in for repair.

Yeah it is junk for sure. Thing is they have all ready replace the mother board and the processor. Would think it would be ok but still same old problems. Bout sick of it! that tool is pretty sweet isn't it :)
How did you probe wires Did you connect signal to the positive Than signal to the ground? I got p0451 and p2422 charcoal canister sticks in closed position I already replaced pressure sensor cannot be my charcoal canister sensor? Thanks
I had same DTC for almost a year. I initially bought a FTP Sensor and left it in my tool box. I then tested EVAP purge and vent both electronically and then manually energized each. I even went so far as to go to canister and disconnected hoses and blew them out...all to no avail. I then went back to Mitchell DIY to reread the DTC and what sets it. It was then (7 months later) that I remembered that I didn't put the new FTP in. I then remembered that the DTC set about a week after I changed the Fuel Pump and Sending Unit. I then hit up youtube and searched for the DTC and I came across this video. It all came together after watching this video along with the Mitchell1Diy info...it just took almost a year for me to realize it. Anyways, I popped out the current FTP Sensor and the gasket was well in the stages of decay. It looked moldy almost and was clearly falling apart physically. I wouldn't of thought it would be that bad considering the pump was generally new(7 months). Anyways, I changed the FTP Sensor, cleared the code and what do ya know...the DTC DID NOT come back.! (GM says 2 ignition starts in a row would set the code)its been over a week now and its still not lit, so I'd call that a FIX. Great video. Great info..thanks for indirectly kicking me in the ass so I could get that part put in. Inspection this month too, so that was a needed fix.
Error code P0446 popped up on my car, it was the Evap pressure sensor I got fixed & it still pops up saying the same. Now the gas cap I have on the car I guess isn’t the right one so do u think I need to replace the gas cap ?
now I know how to attack a similar situation. I now know what numbers I should be seeing on the scan tool. After a 1000km, truck does not know weather it likes what is is seeing. Still incomplete, amber light. TKS
P0451 code on a 2011 Chevy Traverse 3.6. Customer states the car is hard to crank after putting fuel. I'm leaning towards the vapor canister vent valve. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I drop the tank.
Your videos are informative and easy to understand. But do yourself a favor and throw out that wooden ladder and get a Werner or something comparable. Your wooden ladder is outdated and dangerous. I seen a guy fall off one not 3weeks ago. If you can afford that scanner , you can afford a decent ladder. Stay safe , your videos are great.
They did have an access on the previous generation but the pumps rarely quit unless you run the fuel level low all the time as this one was. Stamping just quit punching out the floor.
chasiu75 If I was working on my own car without lift I would cut it open. If you paint the cut and glue the plug into the hole it won’t rust or anything.
I have a 2012 impala LTZ i’m getting code p0446 also after car has been driven I unloosen the gas cap and it sounds like pressure being released is that related to the code?
this diagnosis may explain the issue with my 2010 Aveo; because its throwing the same two codes. (I plugged in my VCXNano with my Tech2Win software, and saw that my FTP readings are even more wigged out than this Impala at -8.64 inches of water, at 3.4V!) unlike this Impala, GM Korea was gracious enough to provide me an access panel to my fuel pump underneath the rear seat.
got a question for you about using the scope, say you want to scope the cam sensor with the crank you hook up the yellow with black wire and green and black wire to scanner and ground both while probing signal wire of each
I've got a 3.9 06 impala and it was a police interceptor or whatever. Mine starts to misfire while driving? Than stops after like maybe a mile. The same day I was sitting at the store and it started to sound like it was going to stall so I shut it off for a few and went and got gas because I was low but not empty. I did change my fuel pump a few months ago also.. will the computer still be able to read codes with it being a cop car? "Was"
Could this code cause the engine to stall? I dont have the scan tool you do. I found the wires to the sensor had torn out of the connector. I spliced in a new connector (looking at the pins on the face of the harness green, orange,grey). Still no change. Ordered a brand new pump (rock auto) still does the same. Could i jump the 5v reference and keep it going? Fyi this is a clap trap so don't really care about it that much. Thanks
Could you get a No Start/Stall on start up without getting any Codes or Check engine lights? My Chevy from time to time when Cold, Warm or Hot will not start; turn the key and starter rolls the motor over and over but no codes, no start. I just keep trying it and sometimes blip the throttle and she will come back to life. This even cause the Immobilizer Light to come on once but it has never done that again since. Dealership changed out the Cam Shaft & Crank Sensors and put a new Starter in. Said that the start housing was coming off the core. I get into the car and randomly it still will do this fail to start. It happens more when I park the car but leave the key in the Accessory On position to keep the radio on for a passenger when I run into a store. I have a simple scanner and even the real time data looks normal. Now watching all of your Evap vids I am going to start to look at those read outs. Thanks!
Does a standard OBD II Scaner pull fuel tank pressure sensor on toyotas? I tried go hunt my p0441 code, but no pressure sensor data. Forums had no answer, or what I was talking about. Do I need an expensive scan tool or just not common on toyotas Thanks

I have a 2008 Chevy impala I got to this video because I was trying to figure out why my auto start wasn't working, on another blog it stated that if the check engine light is on its an evap issues and that why my auto start isn't working. my question is when I purchased the car they owner of the used car lot put it in the reader and stated it was giving me the code because of the yellow gas cap that is on my car. is this true or should I still get the sensor checked??
So, DTC 451 and a faulty Fuel Tank Pressure sensor, caused a related DTC 446? But, there was no issue with the Vent Solenoid ? Is that correct? I'm looking into a 2012 Malibu 3.6L with these DTC's: P0171, P0174 and P0446. One key piece of info my friend told me is the car is difficult to start, AFTER refueling to Full. That to me leads me to believe it's a faulty solenoid [i.e. vapors are being pushed into the engine, undesired, during a refuel, thereby choking the engine]. Am I on the right track? @southmainautorepair
p.s. this is a friend's car so I don't have access to it right now. After watching more of your videos (the whole way through), I see a common quick check is to monitor the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, both inH20 and Voltage. I only have a SnapOn Ethos+ so I can't command anything :o/ I actually found these videos today after looking briefly at the car earlier. I can't remember the Fuel Tank Pressure at KOEoff. but my gut says it's the purge solenoid too. I know I saw a solenoid under the hood, passenger side firewall? I also hope this is not a Tank Pressure Sensor issue too, I'll have to do that method of monitoring it and removing the fuel cap, see if I get a change. Wouldn't that put more undesired fuel vapor in, causing a rich mixture ?
i wish we could have seen the dtc passed since clear list. i think the only test that runs on the drive test is the P0442, so it would have showed us that your P0446 ran and passed along with the pressure sensor codeP0452. i just hope we do not have an intermittent vent solenoid.
I'd like to know how to replace the Fuel tank pressure sensor on my 2008 Chevy Impala, is this something I can do myself & if so where is the sensor located?
I had a evap solenoid go bad now if i were working on one Id buy or rent a vacuum pump to check the solenoid u can troubleshoot the solenoid to see if its the problem or its a leak in line between solenoid and intake the hoses tend to leak causing this code too . If the solenoid is leaking this issue can happen too thats what the vacuum pumpp will test.

You made this sound so simple i did exactly what you did and killed the p0446 code i had for 2 years lifesaver man thanx

I like your videos a lot and they are very helpful. As a hint that may help you in the future there is an access to the fuel pump under the back seat. If you pop the bottom part of the back seat out, which only requires a hard yank, the panel is close to the center of the seat pan and has a couple of screws holding it in. Also most cars have the same thing. May save you some good time on pump replacements.
Not on this car there isn't. Some vehicles there is but not this one.

Experience of what the correct readings the sensor outputs should be, has been the signpost of where to begin.Correct procedure for verifying wiring integrity.Again the bi-directional scan tool has shortened the diagnostic down time.Liked the video and Wells Fargo delivers again.Need to feed the horse before I head for Washington.

i know this is a 2015 vid but i really appreciate all the "fine details/thorough explanations" on the how, why, and where, etc..
now, with my 2001 buick century 3.1l, i have a po446. i only have a simple code reader. i tested ground/power/solenoid operation on the purge solenoid w/multimeter and jumper wire, checked out ok, will test the vent solenoid next for same thing, i "guess" my gas cap is fine although i don't really hear that much of a fizz when i open it, and with this video, i have a strong feeling it will be the pressure sensor on tank (my luck). no ez access under back seat/trunk, will have to lower backside of tank on ground like the one comment you got. would be easier to get access to sensor from back side, which leads into my question as to why you lowered tank on front side as opposed to back side??? you had to stretch further from front side since the fuel pump was located more to rear side. fuel line in the way?? i would like to know ahead of time b4 i start. anyways, this has been the most helpful video about this issue than all the other vids i searched/viewed. broke shade tree mechanics have to do what we can with what we got. thanks, south main.
Hey, this is late but the back seats on your car do come out. You have to take the lower part out first, it is snapped in. Once you do that, the back in is held on by 4 or 5 18mm bolts and nuts due to a seat belt bracket, 2 10mm nuts and clips on the top just as the bottom portion of the seat was clipped in. These top clips make it hard to pull this backside of the seat off but you have to kind of put force on it. Once you do that, you can pull back the carpeted area covering the access panel. Ive done this on 1999-2005 Century due to fuel pump issues. As for your mystery p0446, did the sensor correct it?
My daughter’s GMC Acadia had the 0451 code. I cleaned the gas cap area out and cleared the code for now
Hi Eric! So what a coincidence. I just had this same code on a 2008 Malibu ! Customer brought the car in complaining of long crank and the smell of fuel. Well i pull it in and could definitely smell the fuel. Didnt really get the long crank but the car was warm. So i hook up the solus pro that our shop has provided for the two of us and this code comes up as well as p0430 and intake cam position sensor bank 2 cant remember the p0 number . So my first step was to raise the car and see if i could determine why the strong smell of fuel. Get the car up in the air and find fuel wetness on the right rear of the tank. Pretty much says i gotta drop the tank. Oh one thing that the code description was a restriction in the evap system. So Im thinking broken evap line on the top of the fuel tank and i was also thinking tank pressure sensor ( not the first time ive encountered this). Anyway get tank down and find a puddle of fuel all around the fuel pump but couldn't see where it was coming from thought maybe bad oring seal? Well my partner comes over and takes a look and finds the fuel pump outlet line has a very small crack( he has much better sight than i do) lol. So fuel pump would be the first fix which i completed and the customer ok'd the cam sensor as well. When i get all done i leave the exhaust off the car just in case i need to go back . I clear the codes and run the car for quite a while and keeping an eye on the evap data. Ran it for quite some time and codes never came back . One note though i do believe the cat code is going to return the 02 sensor #2 was switching much faster than bank 1. The customer did not ok the catalytic converter repair. Anyway was really surprised when i seen you put up the same code i just dealt with Thursday . I watch your channel every night and learn so much from it. especially how to torque to factory spec lolol. Just want to say thank you and i appreciate you putting the time in to help us others. I enjoyed the video. I have a 2008 Impala 3.9 and even when the check engine light is not displayed error code P0446 it is difficult to put fuel into the tank, gas pump nozzle clicks a lot on fill-up. I like the Wells replacement part you used. I noticed right away that the seal had more levels of sealing (layers) than the original part, a better design. I will subscribe. Thanks.
Typically a faulty vent solenoid causes a issue u just described. I recently replaced mine with wells..no issuses..and good value and product

at around 17:50 right above the fuel pump area it looks like a round thing that may be an access hole into the trunk. I'm no mechanic but just an observation.

Darren G. - Get scanner danner's book, it has very good teaching methods plus the book can be used as a reference guide to always have on hand. Understanding theory is much better than having to rely on engineer's flow charts. You won't be disappointed.

12vgs8606 just gave me a cold chill thinking about Toyota EVAPs
only saving grace is since the car 1999, Mass no longer does the emission check on it during its annual safety inspection but I am getting very tired of staring that CEL all the time. The cost of the EVAP canister for that car exceed the value of the car!
I was gonna say , most of the time on the Yota's it is one of the VSV valves but in some cases you have to buy the whole canister.
Love those evap problems. Now here in Wisconsin we have to go through emissions every year. They're trying to get the old cars off the road I think. Make people get tired of fixing those yearly evap codes.
Eric; For verifying the operation and accuracy of a gas tank pressure transmitter have you considered making up a filler cap with a pressure connection? This could then be connected to a low range pressure gauge or a manometer which would verify the operation and or accuracy of the pressure transmitter, as well using this same connection you could increase or decrease the tank pressure for further testing.

Love your videos. I have an 07 GMC Yukon 5.3L. It throws a P0446 and occasionally a P0451. I have personally replaced the vent solenoid, purge solenoid, and hose leading to the purge solenoid. The check engine light keeps coming back with a P0446 code every week to week and a half. Garage can't find any leaks with the smoke machine. All parts are OE. I'm lost on this one and would love your opinion. Thanks again for all your videos.
Check power and ground. If that passes, check for corroded wires. Start at the connector and give wires a stern tug. If there is corrosion in the line it will no doubt break with ease. If yhe wire isnt corroded, it will not snap with a tug.

Great info Eric. Thought your video on EVAP was my life saver, but something else is going on. 2007 Impala throwing P0172(Rich bank 1),but the only monitors not finishing are EVAP. Short term -3.1%------Long term -21.1%. EVAP purge 0%...Alcohol fuel 50.2%. All o2's check out.. Do you make house calls? LOL What gives?

Yeah it is junk for sure. Thing is they have all ready replace the mother board and the processor. Would think it would be ok but still same old problems. Bout sick of it! that tool is pretty sweet isn't it :)

I had same DTC for almost a year. I initially bought a FTP Sensor and left it in my tool box. I then tested EVAP purge and vent both electronically and then manually energized each. I even went so far as to go to canister and disconnected hoses and blew them out...all to no avail. I then went back to Mitchell DIY to reread the DTC and what sets it. It was then (7 months later) that I remembered that I didn't put the new FTP in. I then remembered that the DTC set about a week after I changed the Fuel Pump and Sending Unit. I then hit up youtube and searched for the DTC and I came across this video. It all came together after watching this video along with the Mitchell1Diy info...it just took almost a year for me to realize it. Anyways, I popped out the current FTP Sensor and the gasket was well in the stages of decay. It looked moldy almost and was clearly falling apart physically. I wouldn't of thought it would be that bad considering the pump was generally new(7 months). Anyways, I changed the FTP Sensor, cleared the code and what do ya know...the DTC DID NOT come back.! (GM says 2 ignition starts in a row would set the code)its been over a week now and its still not lit, so I'd call that a FIX. Great video. Great info..thanks for indirectly kicking me in the ass so I could get that part put in. Inspection this month too, so that was a needed fix.
Error code P0446 popped up on my car, it was the Evap pressure sensor I got fixed & it still pops up saying the same. Now the gas cap I have on the car I guess isn’t the right one so do u think I need to replace the gas cap ?
now I know how to attack a similar situation. I now know what numbers I should be seeing on the scan tool. After a 1000km, truck does not know weather it likes what is is seeing. Still incomplete, amber light. TKS

P0451 code on a 2011 Chevy Traverse 3.6. Customer states the car is hard to crank after putting fuel. I'm leaning towards the vapor canister vent valve.
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I drop the tank.

Does it look like they thought about making a access port on top? I saw a large round dimple in the sheet metal above the tank.
They did have an access on the previous generation but the pumps rarely quit unless you run the fuel level low all the time as this one was. Stamping just quit punching out the floor.

I have a 2012 impala LTZ i’m getting code p0446 also after car has been driven I unloosen the gas cap and it sounds like pressure being released is that related to the code?

this diagnosis may explain the issue with my 2010 Aveo; because its throwing the same two codes. (I plugged in my VCXNano with my Tech2Win software, and saw that my FTP readings are even more wigged out than this Impala at -8.64 inches of water, at 3.4V!) unlike this Impala, GM Korea was gracious enough to provide me an access panel to my fuel pump underneath the rear seat.

I've got a 3.9 06 impala and it was a police interceptor or whatever. Mine starts to misfire while driving? Than stops after like maybe a mile. The same day I was sitting at the store and it started to sound like it was going to stall so I shut it off for a few and went and got gas because I was low but not empty. I did change my fuel pump a few months ago also.. will the computer still be able to read codes with it being a cop car? "Was"
Could this code cause the engine to stall? I dont have the scan tool you do. I found the wires to the sensor had torn out of the connector. I spliced in a new connector (looking at the pins on the face of the harness green, orange,grey). Still no change. Ordered a brand new pump (rock auto) still does the same. Could i jump the 5v reference and keep it going? Fyi this is a clap trap so don't really care about it that much. Thanks
Could you get a No Start/Stall on start up without getting any Codes or Check engine lights? My Chevy from time to time when Cold, Warm or Hot will not start; turn the key and starter rolls the motor over and over but no codes, no start. I just keep trying it and sometimes blip the throttle and she will come back to life. This even cause the Immobilizer Light to come on once but it has never done that again since. Dealership changed out the Cam Shaft & Crank Sensors and put a new Starter in. Said that the start housing was coming off the core. I get into the car and randomly it still will do this fail to start. It happens more when I park the car but leave the key in the Accessory On position to keep the radio on for a passenger when I run into a store. I have a simple scanner and even the real time data looks normal. Now watching all of your Evap vids I am going to start to look at those read outs. Thanks!

I have a 2008 Chevy impala I got to this video because I was trying to figure out why my auto start wasn't working, on another blog it stated that if the check engine light is on its an evap issues and that why my auto start isn't working. my question is when I purchased the car they owner of the used car lot put it in the reader and stated it was giving me the code because of the yellow gas cap that is on my car. is this true or should I still get the sensor checked??
So, DTC 451 and a faulty Fuel Tank Pressure sensor, caused a related DTC 446? But, there was no issue with the Vent Solenoid ? Is that correct? I'm looking into a 2012 Malibu 3.6L with these DTC's: P0171, P0174 and P0446. One key piece of info my friend told me is the car is difficult to start, AFTER refueling to Full. That to me leads me to believe it's a faulty solenoid [i.e. vapors are being pushed into the engine, undesired, during a refuel, thereby choking the engine]. Am I on the right track? @southmainautorepair
From the looks of the codes and the symptoms you need a new EVAP purge solenoid :)
p.s. this is a friend's car so I don't have access to it right now. After watching more of your videos (the whole way through), I see a common quick check is to monitor the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, both inH20 and Voltage. I only have a SnapOn Ethos+ so I can't command anything :o/ I actually found these videos today after looking briefly at the car earlier. I can't remember the Fuel Tank Pressure at KOEoff. but my gut says it's the purge solenoid too. I know I saw a solenoid under the hood, passenger side firewall? I also hope this is not a Tank Pressure Sensor issue too, I'll have to do that method of monitoring it and removing the fuel cap, see if I get a change. Wouldn't that put more undesired fuel vapor in, causing a rich mixture ?

i wish we could have seen the dtc passed since clear list. i think the only test that runs on the drive test is the P0442, so it would have showed us that your P0446 ran and passed along with the pressure sensor codeP0452. i just hope we do not have an intermittent vent solenoid.

I'd like to know how to replace the Fuel tank pressure sensor on my 2008 Chevy Impala, is this something I can do myself & if so where is the sensor located?
I had a evap solenoid go bad now if i were working on one Id buy or rent a vacuum pump to check the solenoid u can troubleshoot the solenoid to see if its the problem or its a leak in line between solenoid and intake the hoses tend to leak causing this code too . If the solenoid is leaking this issue can happen too thats what the vacuum pumpp will test.
Make sure to keep the lube handy for when u write the bill and give it to the feller
