I was brought up in South Hylton and as kids we were curious but we never got close up and explored. Even today I never knew the storey on the concrete boat and assumed it was left upriver as a decoy for German bombing raids.

I used to love this thing as a kid. I would like to restore it and get it seaworthy again

Interesting , I remember a yacht being made of concrete . And it was sailed to the West Indies

How did you get onto the boat
The tide was out at the time, very very muddy
