Congrats on your retirement, Danny! Your videos back during Covid transformed me, my wife, and our two boys into lifetime railfans. We love your videos!
Did not know about the blue "emergency signs" at railroad crossings. Thanks for the information. I grew up in Big Spring, TX, out in West central Texas, not too far from Pecos. I have a friend from high school that worked for Union Pacific and retired from railroading a few years ago. He was friends with the two men that were killed in the crash/derailment in Pecos. They were from Sweetwater and Colorado City, two small towns in West Texas.
Danny, I watched your retirement send off video last night, and from the beginning of watching your videos years ago, I always thought your voice and presentation skills were off the charts with professionalism, that no other RUclipsrs could hold a candle to, and now we why!! looking forward to hopefully seeing more of your videos in the future!! thanks and enjoy your retirement
I am ashamed to say I never have noticed the "blue signs". You can bet that I will be looking for them now. As always good info and entertainment in your videos. Thank you for sharing. Have a great 2025 and stay safe. 🙂🙂
I was just thinking that I might have missed a post from you earlier today. When I saw "Distant Signal" I had to lock on. I love your videos and hate to miss any of them.
A video in my feed showed your retirement from your local FOX affiliate. Congrats on such a long career. Totally explains the excellent quality of your videos. Enjoy the extra time you’ll have available, Danny.
As both a railfan and a railroader, I always appreciate when Danny posts and there’s some things that I still don’t know about my job. As far as the blue sign, thank you Mr Harmon for pointing it out. I can probably speak for all railroaders when I say that our biggest fear is hitting a vehicle not knowing if the people made it out. So I thank you for pointing it out
Had no ideal about the blue signs. Thank you for the information. Now i will look at every crossing for the sign. Very Very Very important information. Thanks Danny.
Thank you for the important blue sign message in the beginning of the video. Also, thanks as always for keeping the content coming. Finally, congrats on your retirement!
Mr. Harmon, GREAT video as usual. On another note, I watched the piece on Fox 13 about you a few days ago and I wanted to say SALUTE on your retirement. All the best to you and Lizz.
I never get tired of these videos, and my children have learned so much about railroading from you Danny! Thank you for all the knowledge over the years, and congratulations on your retirement!
Danny, another congratulations from a retired radio guy that did one TV weather report (in 1978 in Reno) after radio, I spent my career as a bus driver, Light Rail Train operator, and accident investigator. The best thing about retirement is NO schedule. (And no commute)
It's 18°F in Michigan at the moment, but when I see a downloaded video from Danny "Distant Signal" Harmon, it's a warm breeze with his distinctive narration! ❤
When I was a was a dispatcher, I went to every crossing in our county and made a list of every rail crossing in our county and put it in our computer system, that could be accessed by ALL dispatchers. Most of that was for signal malfunctions, as at the time the rail line was in poor condition and trains were limited to 10mph or under, so if a collision were to occur, damage would have been minimal.
Congrats on your retirement! My dad retired from WKTV (NBC Utica, NY) after 45 years. You can see (and hear) those broadcasting details in every one of your videos, thank you!
Another fantastic video Danny! Congratulations on your retirement from 42 years at the TV station. I hope you enjoy some well deserved rest and relaxation with your friends and family.
Hey Danny...love your video "start-to-finish" as always. Re: the "Blue Signs", I can tell you, from personal experience, "using" them really works...and works well. While I've, thankfully, never been in "life-threatening" situations at a crossing, I have called that emergency number to report grade-crossing incidents where safety (for all) could be compromised. In all cases, CSX responded immediately, and -- quite often -- MofW and first responder personnel were dispatched within minutes (and dispatchers -- i.e. "JA" -- were quickly on the radio to alert crews). Thank you for featuring this vital information.
Thank you, Danny, for this video compilation of your outings from 22 November 2024 through 4 January 2025. I enjoyed watching the trains and learning railroad facts from your comments. I especially like the way you kept reminding us of the blue plates at each railroad crossing which give people an emergency number and crossing location to report any problems that they might encounter at a railroad crossing to prevent any incidents between a train and a vehicle at the crossing. (Posted on 19 January 2025 at 1402 CST.)
Congrats on your retirement! I live in Chicago, so I didn't know that you were a media fixture in Tampa. Now I know why your videos are so well produced. You'll have more time to rail fan and keep your wife company!
Congratulations on your retirement. I watched channel 13’s broadcast and am thrilled you’ll have more time maybe for all of us loyal fans. In addition to your excellent photography and editing skills, your commentary is skillfully written and masterfully delivered. Well done Mr Harmon and enjoy your travels and retirement. I’m honored to be part of your fan base.
Congratulations on your retirement Danny. I've enjoyed your Distant Signal videos since discovering them about eight years ago and have learned so much about today's railroading. Keep up the great work you do!
One more thing Danny. I checked out the guys at Multicolor Films. Your influence on their product says a lot about how much they respect your videos and help with their presentations. You would be surprised how much respect you have on the web. You are class personified. I missed the narrative about a retirement somewhere. From all of us, Happy and well deserved retirement. Now let the Mrs pick all of the travel destinations. (like we husbands all know who does all the pickings)
Hi Danny! Congratulations on your recent retirement. I retired last year, and I’m getting back into railfanning and model railroading after a long absence. Your videos are definitely helping me get back into the swing of things. Thanks for your eatery reviews as well - a good family owned hot dog stand is hard to beat! Take care!
Nice to see the sign collection after the hurricanes, I popped a UK one in the post when I was in the states last year (saved the airmail costs!), hopefully it didn't get lost in the post-storm problems too, would have been a few weeks after the last one went through Tampa
It’s been sixty years since I regularly watched Channel 13 and thirty since I rail fanned between Wildwood and Tampa. Happy retirement and thanks for bringing back the memories.
Your blue sign admonishment is great! I take it a step further-in the contacts of my iPhone phonebook I have all of the class 1’s emergency numbers so I can speed dial in case of an emergency. In many years of rail fanning I have used these numbers twice. One time I spotted a dragging brake throwing sparks. The other was a stuck gate at a crossing. Both times the person receiving the call was grateful for the information.
Congrats on your retirement Danny! Now you got more time to spend on the high iron! Love your videos! Hoping one day to meet up with you! Also hopfully you can get a chance to get up here to the New Jersey/New York area!
Dear Danny I want to wish you a most wonderful retirement! After all of your videos I’ve seen I never knew what your employment was until the other day I stumbled across your farewell video from your friends at the station . Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your love of trains with many other railroad enthusiasts!!
You taught me something I never knew about…as you always do in your entertaining knowledgeable videos…but this was lifesaving information. Thank you❤Happy retirement, too.
Danny, Great video as always. Just watched the fond farewell your friends at Fox 13 Tampa Bay gave you. Definitely well-deserved and well-earned, congratulations! May you have many happy years ahead.
Congratulations on your retirement, Danny. I saw the Fox 13 video and hope you enjoy it. Does this mean we'll get more Distant Signal videos? 😉 BTW, I did not know about the blue signs. Thank you for educating me. I always learn something new when I watch your videos.
Thanks, Danny. For taking time to clarify the purpose of the blue signs at each crossing, hopefully people we'll be more aware, and we'll use those when needed. All of these Catastrophes at these crossings need to stop with that. Said thanks again for another great video, Danny. And happy new year to you and your family stay safe out there on the HIGH IRON!!!!
I saw the retirement blurb on you! Congratulations!
Ditto. Congrats on a great career.
Congrats on your retirement, Danny! Your videos back during Covid transformed me, my wife, and our two boys into lifetime railfans. We love your videos!

The blue sign tutorial is the most useful thing that I’ve learned in 2025 so far. Keep up the good work in educating the public Dan.

And Danny's too polite, but I'll call your attention to the signs on the fence in the last shot. 🙂
Can’t believe RUclips hid this from me for an hour!
Amazing video as always
Haven’t missed a video in 10+ years, always appreciate the videos!
I am ashamed to say I never have noticed the "blue signs". You can bet that I will be looking for them now. As always good info and entertainment in your videos. Thank you for sharing. Have a great 2025 and stay safe. 🙂🙂

Danny / Congratulations on your retirement from TV13. Looking forward to your future Distant Signals productions.👍
Sir. You retire TO something, not from something. Congratulations and thank you for being an amazing teacher.
As both a railfan and a railroader, I always appreciate when Danny posts and there’s some things that I still don’t know about my job. Another awesome video! Congrats on your retirement Danny!
You know it’s a good day when Danny posts a new video! Time to make some breakfast to eat along with watching this!
I always stop what I'm doing and watch the latest post from Distant Signal.

Finally an upload. Good to see you man. Keep the videos coming.
I saw the video on your retirement and wish you a very happy one. I lived in St. Petersburg and watched WBTV nightly, small world!
Its a good day when Railfan Danny uploads. Happy retirement!
Thank you for this important message that driver's need to know about!!!
And remind them to NEVER go around gates or stop on tracks!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Great PSA, Danny. I've used blue sign info 2x to report malfunctioning crossings. Dispatcher both times was great to communicate with.

Happy Retirement Danny. I saw the clip posted from the station. I’m from CA so I had no idea you were a local celebrity.
We thought you were a railroad and diner celebrity, but obviously you are well thought of wherever you might be. Maximum charisma.
Danny, I really enjoyed the retirement sendoff by your friends and colleagues at Channel 13! Also, enjoyed the dropped signals on today's video.
"Farewell to FOX 13 legend Danny Harmon..." Well that certainly explains the "Radio Voice". Congrads Danny!!!! 42 years is a LONG time...
Outstanding video as always! Thank you for doing your part to make sure everyone knows what to do in a crossing emergency.
