Pedals and Effects: Hedra by Meris

- Pedals and Effects coming at you with an exclusive first look at the Hedra from the masterminds at Meris! The Hedra is an “intelligent” pitch shifter, where you can hard set the key and scale and effectively transpose for your instrument. Auto-tune for guitar/bass? It’s exactly what it sounds like, and the Hedra is capable of that, and so much more.

i feel like juan and nick have a kind of mythbusters dynamic except they're both adam savage
Gianni Aiello hopefully they don’t secretly hate each other like the mythbusters did lol
It's a true testament to a manufacturer's skills when they can produce a pedal that can make incredibly beautiful intricate sounds one second, and then complete digital ugliness the next.
Even more excited about this than I was about the Ottobit and Enzo, which I LOOOOOVE
Great demo, guys; thanks so much.
this is probably the best and most comprehensice review of this pedal I have seen. You guys hit this thing like real people would and just started dickin' around with all the knobs and talking about what's actually happening - without the crazy over edited heavily filtered post audio. Makes it much easier to get a real idea of what this may sound like in real life. Appreciated!
You don’t have to apologise for speaking about the pedal. I actually enjoy hearing you guys talk about the pedals. If I could have one piece of constructive criticism without getting bitch slapped by fan boys; would it be possible to hear Nick play some longer, more sustained chords? Sometimes the signal needs to travel through the pedal sustained and unbroken in order for it to perform at its best. Thanks for the videos.
I've watched this channel since a teenager and always seen it as just hanging out with other pedal nerds, parasocial style. There's plenty of channels that showcase exactly what a pedal does in all sorts of different situations - to me, this channel is more about how the effects inspire these musicians and the talking is what gives you an idea of how the pedals might inspire you
I don't think I've ever wanted a pedal so immediately. This thing is unbelievable. 🤩
Anthony Dallarosa it is unbelievable!
Nick you’re awesome! Just picked up one of these today and felt like I needed a masters in theory to operate it, but your demo here really helped!
Can hear this all over a Tera Melos album, can't wait!
I’ve been a Meris fan for a while now,m. Couldn’t live without the mercury 7 500 series unit. Saw that this came out today, just bought it. My girlfriend is a violinist as well who just got an electric. So stoked to fuck with the pitch shifting as well as the Vocoding- insane.
Meris is so killing it!
“D minor is the saddest of all keys”
Spinal Tap shout-out!
,...and whats the name of that song..?
That's called Lick My Love Pump.
That’s what Bach obviously thought and maybe why he chose to write in d-minor when his wife died...
I know this pedal and video have been out for years. I think I bought it just because of P&E. I know I have gotten many pedal because of Juan and Nick. Cutting a track and needed a refresher. Also, sending out good vibrations to Juan. Just heard about the bike accident recently and that he is back in the saddle. Carry on and thank you Juan and Nick for these great videos and to each and every one of you in the audience. Wouldn't be worth the effort in not for you (us)!
Same here! Dug this out as part of bigger clear up and sale yesterday.
Thought I'd check this upload from Nick & Juan as they inspired me to buy the Hedra. Was going to sell but after a quick test through (and after) a Hologram Microcosm, it's back in the 'keep' pile!
Great news about Juan as well ❤
@@kevinclarke9406I've got all 3 of the Hologram pedals and Microcosm is the one in the chain right now while the other 2 wait to get put back in the game!
This episode was not only one of the trippiest but also one of the nerdiest. These guys freaking rule! SUBSCRIBE!!!
Really missing these guys. Started rewatching 😢 hope juan recovering well and some new vids on the way?
This is an incredible effect
it was all crazy... but i fucking loved the first bass setting Juan had, that was incredible!
I want to become a famous music youtuber just so meris would send me free stuff
the tracking is incredible !
Pedals and Effects videos always get a thumbs up from me!
This is secretly the best demo of this pedal I feel like. Nick goes in and messes around the things that I feel like will matter for a lot of peeps.
11:40. Check it out
Every time I hear a polyphonic pitch shifter with delayed notes it sounds like Don Cab
Cool video, thanks for sharing. I think I’ll buy this immediately.
I had one on order, but didnt really understand how it works, but you guys have made it easy to understand, thanks a lot!
that traveling cup of soda on the shelf makes me nervous as hell.
The last bit Nick was playing could definitely be in sampled in a new rap/hiphop track
We need an Enzo into Hedra vid
It gets wild I'm sure. Seen someone play like a Casio into this thing and it sounded truly otherworldly
"musical caveman shit" is the best to describe most guitarists.
Ratatat, I know your magic now....
It's similar to an Eventide Pitchfactor but that gliss is pretty great.
Sounds maybe a little more "Hi Fi" ish (modern ...clear, smoother...maybe...) ?
Lolllzzz “Knobs” And or “Rad” Can’t get enough of this channel. Thanks fellas. P.S. that’s tight.
Great review of a fab pedal, good fun love the serious sweeping face! :)
DOOOOOOPE!!!!
You guys are such stone bags that I can't even get enough of it!
You guys are the best. Great video and had me laughing too.
I miss you dudes when you don't put out videos
amazing guys, thanks you so much for the high quality insights...this is by far the best pedal show imo 🙌🏻
Biggest mistake of my life was selling this. I will buy one again soon.
A new Meris pedal. I clicked so fast.
Juan only demoed this for 1/10th the time Nick did. This tells me something... either way, thanks dudes!
Yeah, I've seen this in many videos. Not trying to sound like a dickweed, but would you please let me know your opinion on this. Again, not being snarky, just want your take. Thank you in advance and 4 years in the future!
I never got it but I don't know a lot of bass players using this one@@pjnewman5947
If I had this pedal I could see myself never really playing a song on my guitar, I'd just be fiddling with knobs the whole time. It's a pretty amazing piece of equipment though.
Niandra La Des and Usually Just a tshirt in a box!
guys can you make a comparison video for transparent overdrives??
I want to see Omar on this bad boy!
sounds like the best merit pedal . No Popping or clipping !
Ok so im not the only one. The digital artifacts on my Ottobit Jr. in particular drive me nuts.
next level
Is there any time of tone control for the effected notes? I was looking through the control descriptions on the meris website, and couldn't find anything about that.
gona eat my portabellos with asia argento flavored mentos and play my portamento
Ordered.
The first thing I thought of is that ending part in Trash Generator, wish you demoed that!
woah thanks for this video! is there a better alternative today in 2022? i'm looking for some kind of shifter / harmonic effect! specificly to use with a digital piano. for piano and hodes sounds. i need that dynamic expressions when im playing!
is it polyphonic. can I strum chords like ehx slammi without the horrible noises usually present on most pitchshifters .
More Bass please :/
agreed
Can I use this as a standard pitch shifter? For example, if I wanted to go from E to F with only the wet signal on?
Yes
great sounds for sure, but i think of Meris more as synth pedals, or best used in a controlled studio/home enviroment. ever heard/tried to use an Enzo in a loud band context? very unpredictable volume-wise, hard to set up and get consistent results.
Enzo is too loud..needs a level control. Would have been better with no mix control and a level control. Sold it as a result. Tracking was a bit annoying as well.
@@understone could you not slap a compressor after it?
@@m.f.3347 I'm sure. Not worth it to me so got rid of it....already had a midi doodad taking up space because it has no midi Jacks . It wasn't worth all the work arounds. Kind of a frustrating company in general. Just got a hedra but again...no friggin midi and I'm not getting that midi box. If strymon comes out with a pitch pedal that will be gone
Like the love child of the
Muzemazer Chromavoder +
Digitech TimeBender
Juan is getting the RNC wet- " get this pedal and they'll fire the rest of the string section"... hahaha, Take that National Endowment for the Arts.
I have my left signal into channel 1 and right signal into channel 2 of my mixer but only get a full signal from right channel when the mix is set to max and nothing at min... any ideas here?
hella musical
what about the comparison with the Eventide Pitchfactor?!?
Could you put a drum machine through it to see how it sounds?
Also sounds very early Frusciante-ish. Like some of that crazy Niandra La'Des shit.
T H E T R A C K I N G ......bra
Pogchamp
Yes!!!
Can you control the volume of each voice independently somehow??
Uv heard LAZY by deep purple i hope ,, is that keyboard sound on this pedal? Think its a hammond b3, id get pedal jus for that sound.
This pedal reminds me of the intro of "Rich Kids" by Polyphia, which is actually auto-tuned guitar.
11:02 battles
Hahaha found ya
@@mochitsuki420 oh hhErEeyYyYYYYyy
Damn it.
Pitchfactor Killer (kinda) in a more compact form ? Shame that seems would benefict from more Phisical Controls and easier access to Presets ?
H9 is a lot more convenient with preset amount though
@@sammadden5540 I have a Pitchfactor...only does "the Pitch" alghos of the h9 ...but seems more friendly in terms of user interface. The Meris sounds pretty good though...
Would it be too much to ask for a "Music Theory with Juan and Nick" show?
Like those old school shred guitar instructional videos, except you actually learn something from Juan and Nick. I’d buy that for a dollar.
Let's see some farticle v2 action
@12:00 is every ratatat song
it sounds like a looper after you've played stuff into it
My thoughts exactly! Bought one because I'm always looping 😂
WTF Meris?! How do these guys come up with these pedals one after the other?
I would be genuinely upset if the first time nick said he would play he actually played
My brain is shut down.
I own this pedal ......the setup is like hearding cats......
Has anyone tried this on a fretted bass?
Wow you just described what an harmonizer is... like the ps5!
And there's yet more to the pedal if you read the manual
Tweaker's Delight.
"I said a beeeOO, a BLeeuur, a PeW Peoo swuuUUR, a to the HWEE zeeooo sKRIUM, ya don't SPEEEeeoooooooo..."
Fusion weirdos
nick the dude 17:00
anyone here who would put/add a fuzz innit?
20:00 min on the dot is pretty much all you need to know for this demo. Lol
This is funny a Guy with a guitar having a talk show No a pedal show hihi
Meris told you guys where the Christmas presents were hidden!
does this mean SANTAS not coming in DECEMBER?!
this is straight up just cheat codes
oh wow I'm early
Great channel just wish they played a lil more in between talking. They played for 10 seconds and then talk for 30. I get they wanna explain stuff. Just wish it was reverse. 10 second talk 30 second of play.
Dude i bought this im soooo confused lol
Send it this way, buddy. It's nothing I can't handle! 👍👍
Lol I just seen this comment 3 years later I want all of em Enzo Pollymoon this company is bananas
lmao no bad notes wow.
I love that you guys speak like adults (swear). I'm sick of being spoken to like I'm an eight year old. Fuck yes! 🎶🎸
We finally did it...auto tune for instruments 🙁
@spectresoundstudios it has auto tune for guitar 🤯
