"Should history be censored and/or erased?" An ironic question, given the fact that after you licensed this movie, I was told to remove from RUclips all the clips I had posted from this movie for nearly 10 years. So, "Should history be censored and/or erased?" No, but apparently you can purchase an exclusive license for a movie and then insure that no one else can post clips from that movie. At least I provided some historical context for each clip. Perhaps you could do the same?

We should have learned about this in school. This fascination Americans had with the idea of blackness through body language, dialogue and dancing. Even though it a gross mischaracteration of black people and outwardly made fun of. It shows that American have always had this kink for the black persona or stereotype. I can't help but to think about Chris tucker or Chris rock and them performing the black stereo type on stage , (the sassyness and attitude they speak with) knowing this is not how they are at home.

@mushrooms for this multistan because I wonder about the psychology behind it . And also I observed myself and my psychology.
I wonder what was the rational behind them acting like that . Was it to mock black Americans ? To show « appréciation » to a culture they CLEARLY do not understand. One might facetiously say that but if it is the case ,why the black face ? Why not use a black actor? And of course if no black actor wants the part then reconsider the « jokes »
And i know to judge history by today’s standard is useless. But these people must have known how wrong it was.
And about myself I wonder why am I truly offended by it . It is a time and place I would never know. Yes I’m a black man but but not an American one and not from the fifties .So I do not recognize myself in this at all and yet , I feel bad inside.
I find all of this fascinating 🙂

Unfortunately any black people being portrayed on film (whether that be in blackface or not) was horribly offensive, like this video. Films like gone with the wind, that features a black character, played into harmful stereotypes. That also extends to other people of colour. There were may poc actors but they were forced into caricatures. America was legally segregated at this time so they could very much get away with this. I agree that historical preservation is important. Performances like this have a long lasting influence on modern day racial stereotypes and should not be lost to the past

My grandmother's understanding of Black people largely came from 1920s-1950s Hollywood. She was born in 1917, lived in a segregated town, and only saw Blacks as inferiors. Towards the end of her life, her views changed enough to where she voted for Obama and doted on her three half-Black grandchildren. Sadly, most of her generation didn't even try to change.
