    Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. I need something strong to cover the tank because my cats won't stay off of it. This looks like a great idea.

    I have two comments or maybe three... First of, the light should be isolated from the reach of the water through a glass. Commercial aquarium/fish tank lids have glass panels preventing the rusting of the light through the water vapor and small splashes from the fish themselves OR the fizz stones. The glass panel should be sealed with silicon to ensure as little as possible moisture from sifting in. this will prevent any shorting on the light, your electrical installation AND your fish (they DO get electrocuted).
    On the lid itself, I think it looks AMAZING great job! However, isn't it a bit too heavy? after all, your tank IS glass and it is a thin glass at that, Unless it is acrylic in which case I said nothin' Personallly I would NOT have painted it, there is a special wax that is used for vintage wood furniture. Basically, early american. That was is the best. I would recommend that instead of painting and then staining. The wax will prevent bending of the wood from moisture and mold/mildew growth

      Wow. Thanks for all the tips. I did not research at all and you're right, after 6-7 Months I saw little rust on the screws on the light and replaced them with stainless steel screws. The light works great and I clean it every 2-3 months and I see some moisture signs on the cover. Glass cover for the light will definitely work little better but i wanted to do it as cheap as possible. For the weight I'm not sure, so far no problem at all. And by the way I don't know the dimensions but the glass is pretty thick compared to the one they sell in the store. It's older tank when they were making thibgs much better. 🙂🙂🙂

    Very nice, what type of wood did you use? Does the wood work somehow because of water and humidity?

    • @MartinMinkov
      @MartinMinkov  8 лет назад

      I used regular pine. everything on the inside is painted white so it helps with the water and also reflects the light better. I also added clear coat that helps too.
