Nigh on 15 years later, we still come back to hear the best rendition of the Lament for Boromir. I've heard the high-production studio versions, I've heard the Hollywood adaptations, and I've heard the rest. None can quite touch the true intent of the song, but Colin comes the closest, I would believe. Hang in there Colin, thanks for giving us these unadulterated versions of Tolkiens songs.
And King Elessar gathered his most talented bards, and he taught them this song of three friends, composed in their grief at the loss of this fallen hero of Minas Tirith. And they made from it a great anthem, singing it at festivals and gatherings great and small, until it were graven upon the hearts of the people. And for many generations of men, they would thus sing this lay of one of Gondor's greatest sons! Or, so I imagine Tolkien might have put it, had he heard this brilliant man sing it like this!
Good to hear from you again, time moves ever faster or so it seems so take care of yourself, I hope you are still doing the artwork........ it will help during these sad times.
Hi Colin. We met yesterday in Wales. I was dressed unconventionally and we chatted. Like the song. My lady friend reacted very positively to it too. Regards. Dean.
‘You left the East Wind to me,’ said Gimli, ‘but I will say naught of it.’ ‘That is as it should be,’ said Aragorn. ‘In Minas Tirith they endure the East Wind, but they do not ask it for tidings.'
Tis' going to be sixteen years soon enough. This absolutely gorgeous rendition is about the same age as I am... It simply appeared to me again, this video, music film, if you will. What news from the Mark, what news from the North. Whatever it be, Boromir shall be always so very great, fair, proud. Thank you, Mr. Colinjohnrudd, for this is a lament to remember.....
This is by far the best version of this song I've heard on RUclips. The problem with so many performers doing Tolkien songs is that they focus on the technical aspects of singing, making those songs feel operatic and detached. Colin's singing takes away all the needless embellishments and focuses on emotion. I could picture Aragorn and Legolas singing it like that while Boromir's body travelled down the river; I couldn't picture any of them singing that in the perfect operatic style of other renditions.
You nailed it : that's the way song could have been sing around a firecamp, in the evening gathering by the common people. Singing an old tale... I wouldn't feel bad to sing along (even if I sing far far worse than Colin), while that would feel grotesque with the "operatic" versions
Well, i didn't want to say, but i've made a time travel and found a bard at my grand grand grand grand father's castle with the same voice as him. So...
I listened to this many years ago when I was yet a child , you and this song has passed into memorie till this moment. wow this brings me back. thank you sir.
@@colinjohnrudd glad to hear that! you were there before the all the hype hope you are still "quite ready for another adventure."! thank you for response by the way!
I fell in love with your version of this song 9 years ago, and I still love it just as much as I did then. I noticed I left a comment here 9 years ago, and then again one year later. Can't believe I managed to shut up in the years between then and now. So here I am again, just to remind you that I still adore your music. Thank you Colin.
Love all this, Tolkien did the most amazing work on the history of fantasy(at least for me). And you, Mr.Rudd, you sing his songs very well, i just found your channel and your music, but you are already between my favorite singers.
You have really captured an inspiring ballad, even if Tolkien wrote the lyrics. I agree with your assessment. Boromir represents all the flaws and weaknesses that make us Human, and still his redemption at Amon Hen inspires so many to understand that every moment of humanity is an opportunity to grasp redemption. He shows that it is never too late to correct your mistakes.
I've always wanted to find someone or something that paid as much honor towards Boromir of Gondor. I've found that someone and something when I stumbled upon this. Beautiful. It's fantastic.
I remember when I first read this many years ago I uncontrollably cried. This version brought all those emotions back and I find myself weeping all over again, amazing job.
This composition captures the true spirit of Tolkien's great work. All those movies failed to create the atmosphere of middle earth as powerful as this. And here it is, so simple, so direct...Mr.Colin John Rudd, its so obvious, from your voice, that you mean every word you sing, you understood what middle earth is really like, and you showed it to us with your beautiful music Thank you!
Boromir is my hero forever! And this is my favourite song from the book. I was crying when i was reading it for the first time. This is a beautiful tribute to him, thank you.
I have a deep respect for your work. You have a great voice, and it's just amazing that you sing with such love for the works of JRR Tolkien. I think the Professor would be proud of you.
Wow, this is fantastic. I've always loved the Lament for Boromir and you certainly did it justice here. I'll be checking out your other videos for sure!
I love this version of this song. it's perfect, almost exactly how I mentally heard it when reading it. I wish that Peter Jackson had put it into the movie. I was sad when it wasn't there.
I noticed I haven't left a comment for quite a while.. but just to let you know: I still love your songs - the Lament for Boromir will never leave my mp3-player! [:
Beautiful. This was the first Lord of the Rings poem I recited, and I have always been wondering what kind of music should go with it. Now I believe this is it.
What I never like about adaptations from this poem is that it's supposed to be sung by aragorn and legolas and most versions justbseem off to me, but this version is amazing. I could picture them singing it this way, thank you for your great work
I absolutely love your version of this beautiful song.. At the moment I'm reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy again and remembered that, some time ago, I was listening to another song of yours and that you also sung the Lament for Boromir.. So I came back here.. To find I am still amazed by how well your voice and your guitar fit Tolkiens stories. (: Thank you so much for your wonderful music, Colin! take care **

100% man! I am still here, fantastic cover.
Colin's is amazing. But I have to hand it to Robert Inglis on how he sings it in the audio book. In my option that's the most accurate rendition.

You need to do a live version of this song please!
Hi Colin. We met yesterday in Wales. I was dressed unconventionally and we chatted. Like the song. My lady friend reacted very positively to it too. Regards. Dean.

The fact that one of the oldest, or earliest, videos on RUclips is a song from Tolkien's works is cool.
When I clicked on this I did not have high hopes... I have never been so wrong in my life... this is amazing 0__0

Have you bu any chance heard Karliene's version? It's one of the best versions that I've heard
Randombffls12 I have heard it, it's pretty good, but for me it doesn't carry the same emotional load as Colin's.
+amorangias Exactly. Rudd's versions of Tolkien's poems have an epic feel to them lost by so many other musicians.
+amorangias its like he's singing it as he had wrote them from the fellowships talees

Man! You Have a Medieval Bard's Voice! Really Wonderful!
+João Antônio Souza How do you know how medieval voice sounds ?:)
Well, i didn't want to say, but i've made a time travel and found a bard at my grand grand grand grand father's castle with the same voice as him. So...
Kind of a sad lie.
Who are you to judge one's account as false. Souza's words ring true in my ear.
I listened to this many years ago when I was yet a child , you and this song has passed into memorie till this moment. wow this brings me back. thank you sir.
this version of the song still brings me sad joy in hard times. best rendition of tolkien's original ever.
it's crazy that I was a kid when it was posted, but that just proves how timeless Tolkien is
A beautiful interpretation Colin. I hope you are able to recover from the stroke.
I really can't get enough of this song. It's truly perfect in capturing the melancholy of the life and death of Boromir.
This guy needs a full album!
The emotion in the poem is great, and the emotion in this mans voice makes it even stronger, I can't help but choke back tears when I hear this.
this guy was one of the first ones who brought the gem upon us.. hope hes still with us absolutely love it

It's truly amazing how you create such a middle-earth-like atmosphere only with your voice and your guitar... wonderful!
Danke Colin Rudd, dass Lied berührte mein Herz.
Boromir mein Held. Colin mein Sänger.
The best version of "Lament for Boromir" I ever heard! Had to add this beautiful interpretation to my Tolkien-playlist.
Thanks for sharing the song!!!

What a beautiful rendition. Saved to my Tolkien Legandarium video list. And that will then become a nightly song listened to. Whether wake or sleep.
Fantastic performance. I greatly enjoyed this tribute to my favorite character from Lord of The Rings.
Outstanding, an excellent interpretation.
I don't normally watch songs on RUclips that are sung by the people who post them, but I'm glad my friend recommended this! Brilliant!
What a wonderful lament for brave Boromir! You played it beautifully. Kudos to you.
still my favorite version
Absolutely beautiful. Very fitting for my hero and the Martyr of the Fellowship.
A true bard lives on in these days of shadow.
