Did not know where she went after Love Story so this was amazingly fascinating. Her life now in Santa Fe is definitely better than her life as an actress, even in its biggest moments through the early 70s! I'm so happy that she's seemed to find so much peace with herself.

♥️♥️♥️♥️🤍♥️🇵🇱🪷🪷🪷🪷🪷

Sooo exciting to see Fritz's take on Ali MacGraw and her pop-culture camp role. She was so well cast in this role, cause the character is just a girl. Can't wait for Glenda's turn. She is amazing.

The movie had success due to 50/60 precent of the music!
The music gets to you, despite not being my type,is a great song.
The godfather was a masterpeice but also due to the stunning music.
All great movies had great music, like Game of thrones nowadays,50precent du e to music.
I was into Twin peaks, the music had a major impact!
If the music wasnt on this movie, not sure,if was a major success!

I understand all your reservations, yet I can watch this film on a Sunday afternoon when flipping channels and find myself crying. Whatever its shortcomings, it succeeds on an emotional (some would say emotionally manipulative) level. And she is gorgeous, although more so in "Goodbye Columbus."

Yes, totally, that's what I mean when I said "It is easy to watch"; there is no complexity, you can just enjoy it and then cry your eyes out; on that level, the movie succeeds but I still don't think this means that it's good

Your presentations are too well researched for you not be aware of the classic put down by Pauline Kael of Ms. MacGraw as a proponent of the "flared nostril school of acting." Since I saw your program on Luise Rainer I have become fairly obsessed with your fascinating shows. I googled you but only found crumbs online. Too bad there isn't extra funds to hire a private detective to investigate you in Germany. In this episode I was particularly fond of the rundown of reasons by you of all the reasons "Love Story" is not your kind of movie. Signed, Your Fan in Los Angeles

@@FritzandtheOscars Curious about your affinity for the movies, what brought you there, how you live (in general), what else you do, other projects, etc. Found almost nothing to round out the picture. It's because I find your work intelligent and insightful which sparks the curiosity. Imagine in film terms, you come across a performance which is adept and beguiling but there is not information on the individual...not even which part of a country they live. It is like that. Maybe you can direct me. So you see why the mind turns fancifully to a Private Eye---trench coat, Humphrey Bogart-style hat, hard soled shoes which click against the pavement and possibly with dangling cigarette...

Fritz, this is a brilliant analysis of one of my favorite movies of all time. You capture so much of the essence of Glenda and the character Gudrun. I am puzzled, however, about all the talk about her being unattractive, in the press at the time and it seemed at times in your view, though you stated otherwise toward the end of the video. Of course, attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder. Apparently she herself didn't think she was attractive. I don't agree with those who see her as the unequivocal star of this movie. It is great ensemble acting from all four actors, with Ken Russell being the true master in this, his best work. The most interesting question about Glenda Jackson is why she left acting, which she had been so devoted to. I respected her choice, but have always felt a loss for what we may have missed.

    • @FritzandtheOscars
      @FritzandtheOscars  Год назад

Thanks a lot for your comment! I personally consider Glenda highly attractive, I'm sorry if that was not clear - what I wanted to show was just how she was seen by the press and the public (as very unattractive)

While standing in a long queue at an Upper East side coffee shop she came in and marched to the front and ordered. After I spoke up she looked at me with dead eyes and arrogantly said "I'm Alli MacGraw" as if we were in the presence of royalty and we should care, to which I replied" "That's nice, I'm "x " still no excuse, we all have things to do and places to be. "
She was offended but had no intention of waiting with plebs, ordered her coffee and stomped out.

I watched this in 1970 when I was 21 and frankly her character was slightly annoying the whole way. She was pretty snotty, too. I didn't buy that she was dying at all. The movie was ok, that's it. I still don't understand why it drew so many accolades. And love means never saying you're sorry? That's what narcissists say during devaluation stage! 😮 She does seem like a genuinely nice person. I wish the best for her. Thanks again!

Even when she did "Winds of War" for television, I still found her a bore. That's just my taste. She's certainly no Streep or Close.
