This series was frickin amazing! Im going to build my own vcm with a welded frame filled with granite epoxy, going to aim for a frame weight of approx 400kgs (solid af for a bench cnc), this series will be such an epic guide!
I want a highly precise machine, with a max of 0.005mm repeatability, i think its perfectly possible as long as the running gear i purchase is all brand name high quality (c1 ground double nut ball screws, nsk high rpm spindle and motor combined under 1micron runout, precision servos capable of sub micron precision)
If i get mating surfaces machined in a shop, scrape em all in and go through the series ensuring everying is 100% perfect!
Im pretty sure this machine would be capable of 0.005mm repeatability, which is what i need for watchmaking, prob could get away with 0.008mm, maybe even 0.01mm, because i dont make tiny watches and should be able to get off the ground with 0.01mm repeatability..
Please correct me if im utterly dreaming lol i am super capable, made an excavator from scratch, made half a pocket watch from scratch with no cnc, made a bunch of specialty precision tools to make the watch parts accurate enough to work, etc etc
So its not like im some rqndom dude zero engineering experience just watching utube lol
Hence why im confident AF i can get it done as long as i get the measuring equipment and running gear is all super high grade for cncs capable of making watches..
Sorry for the long msg, any honest feedback would be greatly appreciated from seasoned vets, constructive criticism 100% welcome!! 😂😂
    Thanks!

Building your own machine is probably a great learning experience, for example when you are a ME student, but obviously it's extremely time and labor consuming.
If your goal is making parts rather than machines the sensible way to go is buy a (used) machine and spend time fixing the issues it might have.

What exactly is that tool you're using? I can't find anything like it.

It's a ladder gauge, and I can't find anyone that makes it anymore, everyone switched to lasers now.
