    Hi Dystopia Junkie! I found it really weird how I was watching this on 4th April and that’s when The Soldier was read out at the cathedral! Complete coincidence!! I think this would be an awesome poem to compare to The Manhunt, especially with the water imagery, with The Soldier using ‘washed by rivers’ as religious imagery, and The Manhunt using ‘frozen river which ran though his face’ as a reflection of scarring and suffering. Thanks for another great lesson!!

      The speaker of the poem - sort of like a poem's equivalent of a narrator. I prefer the term because poets don't always write as themselves in their poetry.
