  • This is Why I Do What I Do | Backpacking the Trans Catalina Trail // Curious to see WHAT I do and WHY I do it? In this video, I’m bringing you with me on a recent group trip with students from my online backpacking program for women, The Confident Solo Female Backpacker System, to hike the Trans Catalina Trail in Southern California. For 5 days and 4 nights, our group thru-hiked all 38.5 miles along Catalina Island together while putting our backpacking gear to the test in the heat, sun, wind, rain and mud.
    One of my most favorites parts about creating The Confident Solo Female Backpacker System is getting to see firsthand the incredible transformations my students make when they do the work inside the program and then join me out on trail for group trips like this one. My heart is so full!
    A huge THANK YOU to Gossamer Gear for supplying each of us on this trip with a brand-new Mariposa 60 backpacking pack. Not only will I share with you our incredible journey of hiking on Catalina Island, but I’ll also share with you some of the backpacking gear I brought with me including my new Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 ultralight pack. You’ll also hear from my students themselves how the new Mariposa 60 backpacking pack worked for them on this trip along with their favorite features on the pack.
    The Trans Catalina Trail is a 38.5 mile thru-hike along Catalina Island with a total elevation gain of 11,176 feet.

      I mean, it kind of sums up our whole trip. We had so many laughs while we were out there and created so many incredible memories with each other. It was a lot of fun editing this video together. Watching this video makes me want to go back and do this trip all over again.

    I wish my wife could join you guys all the way from Scotland and to learn hiking. She really need to relax from working, studying, being a busy mum and breaking her sore back...she could also use a better lighter backpack instead of her 2kg Gregory one lol...anyway good stuff, ur a good woman!

    What an incredible trip! It looks like you all had the best time, even with the blazing heat and the rain and mud (holy cow that mud 😮!) I love that you showed us your solo trip on the TCT, so we can see the differences between that and the group trip. And I love that Gossamer Gear sponsored this trip with packs for all of the ladies! I think it’s super helpful for those of us looking to buy a pack, to be able to see that it fits different shapes and sizes.

      Mother Nature really gave us a taste of everything while we were out there on Catalina Island. Really put all of our backpacking gear to the test! Everyone seemed to really love their Mariposa 60 and this was such a perfect trip to break in all of our packs. :)

    I’m a proud lady solo hiker for the TransCatalina Trail. I’m sorry that you skipped sleeping at Parsons Landing. At night…it’s one of my favorite places on the island.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Месяц назад +1

      I'm happy I finally got to see Parsons Landing on this trip, even if it was only to have lunch here in the rain. When I originally booked our sites for this trip, all of the sites at Parsons Landing were already booked, which is why we stayed at Two Harbors for two nights.

  • @TheHikingChick1
    @TheHikingChick1 Месяц назад +1

    Bravo! I love what you're doing for women. This hike is on my list. I had it all planned for 2020 and well, we all know what happened that year. Do you still have to book all the campsites individually? This hike takes a bit of logistical planning. What was the decision process for not staying at Parsons the last night? Was it the timing of the ferry ride back?

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, each campsite still has to be booked individually. Definitely requires a lot of trip planning logistics for this trip. I put together a trip planning guide for the TCT in this video: ruclips.net/video/VfDDNRoXZOM/видео.html
      As for not staying at Parsons Landing, when I went to book our campsites, all of the sites at Parsons Landing were already full, which is why we spent two nights at Two Harbors.

      I hiked the TCT solo in January of this year (2024): ruclips.net/video/VfDDNRoXZOM/видео.html and then we just did the group trip along the TCT in April.

    I’m sorry, I can’t do you. Your ladies are your students and you are always telling us what you know and what to do vs., sharing your experience. It’s also too textbook. Backpacking is fun and unpredictable. I must unsubscribe.
