At what point are they no longer "I Am They"? Only 3 original members left from the 7 They started with...2 original singers gone...no bass player....
It all matters who carries the torch. The Newsboys are still called The Newsboys, but they don't have any original members left. Petra had an almost complete turnover two or three times.
There are numerous instances of bands going through complete line-up changes but still retaining the original name.
Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline are two that come to mind immediately. Both of them are completely different members (with the exception of Duncan Philips from Newsboys) than the originally crafted bands.
Kutless only has two original members, and have gone through extensive line-up changes in their history.
Sanctus Real and Hawk Nelson have both gone through lead singer changes.
It isn't anything out of the ordinary. A band isn't the people that are in it, it's the mission of the unit as a whole.
I like your point about mission. That's something that the world, for the most part, doesn't have. And if we give even a cursory listen to The Newsboys from any era, we hear a band committed to spreading the truth of the Gospel in an unorthodox way.
I can understand the mission idea, when I comes to a church worship team, project etc. However to just fall along and think the band is the same with member changing wouldn't fly in any other genre. Steve Perry isn't with Journey anymore, and people acknowledge that and notice a difference. Van Halen/Van Hagar is another example. INXS.... The list goes on. The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Kiss, Motley Cru, Nirvana....they would NEVER be the same if the lead singer was replaced...let alone twice. I Am They went from having a unique and distinct sound when they first started out. Now they sound like every other average church worship group found in the western United States. I understand that these are musicians who are doing everything they can to pursue their dreams, but I'd hate to see a moment of excellence smothered by a career or mediocrity.

very very anointed ....but the focus comes upon the lead to much at the breakdown ...dont be offended now, thinking i am a hater, im not, i just know arrangement mistakes when i hear them ...i actually really worshiped in Truth and Spirit to this song ...but the high note from the lead was just put at a time and place that distracted from The Spirit ...that was the place for a build-up that went low on that last note (instead of high) then build up, then belt out that high note last time around ...im just sayin thats how its done, in order to keep in The Holy Spirit
