Wow, one Groucho's; best shows.... with all so much joy people most likely had from watching and the richness of the warmhearted humor, why would a person make an antagonistic comment to another .
What a gem - Groucho. The world was so blessed to have him. If there's anyone who could make the angels laugh, it was Groucho.
This is one of Groucho’s best, Hilarious!!! I love them all but these two Italian sisters were a riot! No one better than Groucho! Timeless! I just can’t get enough of these. I’m laughing all the time.

Ida Tondino was my mother, Isabella was my Aunt who came here from Italy to visit. Isabella didn't speak any English, and my Ma was helping with that, and then my Uncle Raymond came up to help also when Isabella answered the questions. She had been a student of Mythology, so that's why she was knew those answers. THIS EPISODE IS A CLASSIC!!

I can't imagine any game show host alive today that could come close to this kind of impromptu homespun entertainment! This kind of TV viewing is priceless!! Groucho was a genius!! Here I am watching his instead of live talentless TV!!
Actually, in his own way, Steve Harvey comes pretty close. He seems to actually like people; he jokes with his guests, he kids them, but he never makes fools of them, and no matter how off-the-wall their answers may get, he always acts as if he's laughing with them, not at them.
Just look at his joy at the good ol' time he was having. I've replayed it 3 times - so far.

Aside from Groucho’s obvious brilliance, I’m impressed with his ability to prevent cracking up with laughter at his perhaps unintentionally hilarious guests.
The most entertaining, funniest show on RUclips, mainly due to the brilliant talent of Groucho, but also the lovely contestants who always enter into the spirit of the show.
This show and WHAT'S MY LINE? are two of the main reasons I'm glad that RUclips exists. Quality TV, with absolutely no agenda - except that of pure entertainment that everyone could appreciate and enjoy, unlike modern society's ideas of TV entertainment...
Have you seen the skit with the brothers trying to get off the ship? Google: Marx Bros, Maurice Chevalier. It's hilarious. One cannot be sad after watching these guys.
Edit: Two of the brothers sing the wrong words. I wonder if that was in the script.
Nancy Anderson is my grandmother. She went on to be West Coast editor of Photoplay magazine and was friends with many Hollywood icons including Elvis Presley. More importantly she was an amazing grandma!

The Italian ladies were a hoot. The one lady got ticked off about the way Groucho kept pronouncing her last name. To funny. Groucho can never be replaced he was one of a kind. Miss his humor. He was truly a fantastic entertainer with his brothers

These shows are like a history lesson; A glimpse into Americana arrested in time. True, these folks were appearing on television, so there was a certain degree of play acting taking place, yet they're still a fair barometer as to the mindset of the population during the 1950's, ten short years after the end of the second world war. Anyone wondering about where we are today, can look to these folks for a certain degree of explanation. It's pretty amazing stuff actually!
I grew up in the 40's and 50's and I remember watching these shows when they were first released. For me this just took place yesterday.
@@jimhardy7673 Wow.....in Denmark we only had television from the late fifties - one state-programme -no commercials. There were Perry Como-shows and Nat King Cole shows from the States , but this show I only found out about some years ago on the internet.

I remember watching these 1950's programs with family and friends 'Back in the Day'... even though these shows were aired some 70 years ago, it seems as if I could look around to see those very same people with whom I first watched these wonderful old shows. But, of course, they aren't there, all of my family members are now with Groucho in the After Life and those old friends are now long gone.
And we were grateful to have (black and white) tv. Haha.
These Italians not only knew their mythology but understood Yiddish perfectly. Great fun!

Thanks for posting the Episodes. I even mentioned the Gonzalez Gonzalez episode in some pages of my 607 Pages Phd-thesis. It has yet to be published. but this channel is one of my dearest.
Unfortunately, the episode with Pedro Gonzalez Gonzalez is one which could cause copyright problems if I try to add it to this channel, but there's at least a clip of his appearance somewhere else on RUclips. I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos-- thanks for the comment!

Thanks for sharing these episodes.It has revived my interest in the series and I have ordered the DVD's that Shout Factory has put out.
That makes me very happy to read. :) I'm a huge booster of those Shout! Factory sets (and Shout! Factory in general), so I will never post the 36 episodes they contained. Fortunately those YBYL sets are a LOT cheaper now than they were when they came out-- I remember paying $50 a piece.
Anyhow, you'll love the DVDs. They're packed with fantastic extras. All the episodes are uncut and from the original films, so there's none of those awful modifications that were made to the syndicated versions (the frame was blown up in many shots to remove the sponsor's sign on the back wall, and a glowing white circle was added to obscure the NBC logo on Groucho's microphone).
I'm delighted if I had any small part in reviving your interest!
I just discovered this show thanks to you. All I can say is that I am a new fan! Groucho humor is my favorite I have ever seen. I've seen Groucho with the Marx brothers...but I never knew this show existed...so entertaining.

I had the Shout Factory DVD set when it first came out. I gave it away after watching it to my accountant who is a giant Groucho fan. I just ordered one for myself. There are so many great segments of shows vs. taking the whole show to get the good part. I guess it wasn't sensible or permissible to edit everything from the Ida, Isabelle and Raymond segment and pair it with other wonderful pieces like Pinky Tomlin or Bootzy or Jen doing Shake Rattle and Roll or the Marks brothers dancing the Polka with Groucho and the large woman. Rene and John Charles Thomas debating Rock and Roll; Beverly Aadland singing "All Shook Up" and John Charles singing Golfer's Lament with Groucho harmonizing
Everything with Jack Meakin's musical group is great especially Ketty Lester and Willy Spurlock's segment. I wish someone could identify the sidemen.

As an Italian/American, I have to point out just how adorable, fun-loving, and passionate the two Italian ladies were... In 1958 every American learned how to pronounce "Caracciolo"! lol... Did you notice how fiery, Ida Tandino got when Groucho questioned her ability to cook? If she had - had a wooden spoon in her hand I think she would've used it on Groucho's butt! - Viva Italia!
In my family, to this today we still say, "Cook? a-look-a-me!"

You said that you had no idea why he was even here, the reason is sad really; Some folks have no higher goals, no loftier ambitions to accomplish in their lives than looking through comment sections to belittle and/or to calumniate others. People whose sole 'offense' was to have shared their opinions and experiences. People such as this "jerk", as you have so aptly named him, finest achievements in life are limited to sitting stealthily behind a PC in a cowardly attempt to cause others to feel bad about themselves. Scott Edwards was the one with the Ph D, but it was the Southern lady who whispered the meanings of foreign phrases to him--although in the introductions, she came across as a not-particularly-eductated "bumpkin"!

Sure, plenty of times. It wasn't common, but it happened.

dennis guerrerio- Yeah, people won the ten thousand dollars a couple of times. Two things- First, adjusting for today, ten thousand was probably more like sixty thousand in today's dollars. Second, if you watch enough of these episodes, you'll see that they kept changing the actual game. It was a pretty loose arrangement, where the game was of second importance, and the interaction between Groucho and the contestants was emphasized. It's really an amazing show, and great study material for any modern day sociologist!

Hahahaha. Back then, younger people looked young. Older people looked older. Kind of the same way it works today and universally. Except Hollywood convinced a lot of people that they have to look like they're 29 forever - unfortunately.

Someone from 1990-2000 could not even guess, the things girls & women did to their face/body, before going out in public.
The insane (by today's standards) amount of skin base, layers of various builders, the top layer. then the toning, highlights...and we haven't gotten to the hair/clothing/shoes yet.
My mother, a few sisters, aunts, grandmothers, partners, to name a few I was aware of...spent at least 2-3-4 solid hours on the make-up/hair, garb, and footwear.
If you spoke to most of them after removing the 1/8th inch of covering layers, you wouldn't know it was the same woman.
Sure they looked old back then...it was the make-up jobs.
Parts of the common bathroom looked like a makeup shop.
Girls back then looked just as young as their counterparts today, and by the same token, if women of today wore the same make-up, they would also look much older than the reality.
If you went back to women of the 1890's-1920's, you would find the same type women, with even more formal bindings, and coverings, making them look 40, when they were 20.
When I said you were guessing...you were, however, you only stopped analyzing and comparing, far too quickly.
If you had finished the story, you would have gotten to the reasons why...as even now, they seem very odd to me, and what I accepted as normal then, I think bizarre, in my thinking today.
