College teaches you how to listen and do anything and everything your boss (professor) tells you to do. That way that mindset is set for when you start working at your $17/hr job you spent 100k to get.
Not everyone can be business owners but you can start a small business thats probably won't be too big or get into different types of investments like real estate that can bring you a lot of extra income along with your main income
You easily start with 50k a year at the bare minimum with only 16k in debt after graduation. So if you smart with your money you can easily pay that off within a year.
I dropped out of college cause my family is broke and I was trying to alleviate some financial stress off of them specifically my grandmother. Now every time I’m around her she tells me all she wants is for me to graduate before she dies. I make 20+ dollars an hour and live by myself with a new vehicle. It’s never enough

I always wanted to be a teacher but all that shit I had to learn was boring as hell and I just wasn’t feeling it. I got depressed and annoyed with debt. So now I’ve been working at Amazon for a year making $15 an hour and I got my first car from Carmax in January and I’m so much happier than I was in school. Like highkey, you gotta pay for parking when you living on campus; when it should be included with housing. You gotta pay like $110 for a subscription service to get books and get your homework graded; When the website is notorious for not working sometimes. Etc. it’s the price you pay for education

You made a lot of good points, but I would also like to add this: back in the 60s when the suburbs was poppin, there was this idea that working with your hands (plumber, mechanic, etc) was looked down on as "uneducated" aka grease monkey work, and the emphasis of going to college was the end all, be all way to have a successful career. The idea of trade schools were looked down on as it was for "low educated/school drop outs who didn't try hard or can't succeed" so there was more push to go to college and less trade school opportunities. Over the years, colleges got bigger and so did the tuition fees. College may have worked others but then there were people who went to college and got lost in the whole thing. We all know people who are better at working with their hands than being book smart on a college level. I know a friend who is highly college educated but always calls someone to come fix his car or plumbing/construction issues with his house. My dad worked as a carpenter/car mechanic for 37 years before he retired, and he dropped out in the 9th grade. We honestly need to push trade schools just as much as we push college/university education.

My experience with deciding to go to college. I graduated high school this year and through out my senior year, I have been constantly stressing and wondering if u should go to college. My teachers were constantly convincing me and begging me to go to college since I was an A+ student. I talked to my mom wondering what she will think. I thought she would have said go to college since I got a 37k scholarship. She said to not accept it. That decision is the best advice I have ever made. My peers are constantly stressing over money and time for college while I'm just here improving myself. A great sense of relief was lifted off of me after I realized I shouldn't stress about college. I will not be happy in college. If you know what to do and it requires college. Go to college. But if you don't know what to do and you have peers and teachers constantly harass you, don't go to college. You shouldn't go to college just bc everyone is doing it or it's the only option. If you don't want to go to college but you don't want to let your parents down, talk to them. I talked to my mom and she respected my decision. Some stuff in life requires college but just the important jobs like doctors or lawyers.

I think the older generation and college being a requirement has two main problems. 1. Our generation has taken some of their riskiest job options and made them much more attainable which is something they can’t wrap their head around because 2. We have technology that lets millions of people see videos or listen to our music instantly. Back in the day for music, you had to play music on the street or record it in a musty studio and send it to a radio station and prey you get heard which may never happen while now we have Spotify and SoundCloud making it much easier for people to be discovered

Tbh the best thing about college is abusing the "student" status when you apply for internships. Goes without saying that not every internship is worth your time but some people really be getting opportunities for huge companies/ start-ups.
I just graduated from university, I went for anthropology and linguistics and here i am 40k in debt workin at a bank, if you not going to be an engineer, pharmacist, or going to medical school, drop out my G, i have receding hairline, +30 lbs in weight, and a 40k wall decor plaque on my wall, thats about all i got outta university
Make sure to look into a lot of internships and start building your portfolio for when you graduate, work on some programs and add them to your portfolio. this is really important especially for computer science because the field is really competitive and job opportunities with higher pay are very limited. One final advise its to stay focuses and push through even if classes are hard or if the material is hard to understand. STUDY,STUDY, you have to understand what you are learning that is the whole point. Anyways, good luck man I hope you become successful and you make 6 figures.

@Mariam Syed you're right about the useless shit part. like sometimes, the teacher doesn't even demonstrate how to do the assignment let alone how to code. this one teacher just showed slides and called it a day. we were out for self at that point and i was getting paranoid about failing an assignment.
the reason why im staying in college is because some companies need someone with a degree and some dont, but im testing that out with my ethical hacking skills and see whether i get hired or not

I think the older generation and college being a requirement has two main problems. 1. Our generation has taken some of their riskiest job options and made them much more attainable which is something they can’t wrap their head around because 2. We have technology that lets millions of people see videos or listen to our music instantly. Back in the day for music, you had to play music on the street or record it in a musty studio and send it to a radio station and prey you get heard which may never happen while now we have Spotify and SoundCloud making it much easier for people to be discovered

That’s how I felt when I graduated this year and ended up with an associates degree and Highschool diploma
I dropped out after 2 years bc I was sold a dream. switched my major and when that fell through bc I felt like I was way too far behind to catch up and graduate with my homies and I was suicidal. I moved states bc my fam was moving got a job with my uncle and now it’s been 2 years since I’ve seen any of my friends and I don’t do any of my hobbies and I feel like I’m not doing shit with my life again but my gut Pat is fucking back and that’s all that matters
I’m not American, but I feel like college is really good, but then I remember that here in Germany all universities are free… the price of college in America is incredibly higher than I expected

I'm in an Art school to get my Bachelor's and it honestly sucks. Most of the Animations I've made, I learned in the middle of my time there and the rest were a bunch of 3D and unnecessary classes in Management and Art History

Tbh the best thing about college is abusing the "student" status when you apply for internships. Goes without saying that not every internship is worth your time but some people really be getting opportunities for huge companies/ start-ups.
I just graduated from university, I went for anthropology and linguistics and here i am 40k in debt workin at a bank, if you not going to be an engineer, pharmacist, or going to medical school, drop out my G, i have receding hairline, +30 lbs in weight, and a 40k wall decor plaque on my wall, thats about all i got outta university

As someone looking into computer science and finding a career in that, I'm definitely keeping this in mind. Keep doing what you doing
Make sure to look into a lot of internships and start building your portfolio for when you graduate, work on some programs and add them to your portfolio. this is really important especially for computer science because the field is really competitive and job opportunities with higher pay are very limited. One final advise its to stay focuses and push through even if classes are hard or if the material is hard to understand. STUDY,STUDY, you have to understand what you are learning that is the whole point. Anyways, good luck man I hope you become successful and you make 6 figures.
Literally just give up the internships for computer science they want you to already have experience to apply for INTERNSHIPS I gave up no one hired me applied to 200+ internships never got hired biggest waste of my time

All the professors i had i could not keep my eyes open to even want to listen nor care to. I highly reccomend going to community college. Its like 50 dollars a unit. Also if your in high school, see if you can take community college courses. Its essentially the same shit as high school and you are two steps ahead of your peers.
