  • In this video we look back at teen boys serving time in a maximum-security prison in Indiana and what life was like inside for kids who had been sentenced as adults. During the time of filming, all kids under the age of 18 who had been sentenced to adult prison were incarcerated in the Youth Incarcerated as Adults cell block inside the adult prison. By law, kids under 18 must be sight and sound separated from the adult prison population, but once they turn 18, they are immediately transferred to the adult population with 3,000 other adults.
    Since the time of filming, all youth sentenced as adults are now transferred to Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility where they are kept in a separate cell block away from the juvenile population. They are still transferred to adult prisons around the state once they turn 18.

    We are failing our youth and adult in our carceral system. Dehumanizing in every way. These children are not their worst mistake.

    I spent 6 years at Wabash Valley. This is a very critical time in these young men's lives. Good to see they are getting their education, hopefully they are learning some life skills as well. Can't understand why they have female C.O.s unless it is for a "mothering" effect. These guys hormones are raging, l just hope they speak and act respectfully. Good time to get their act together before they go to gen pop with the real men. You WILL be tested. RESPECT is of utmost importance. I've seen youngsters with 5 years to do screw up and get a fresh 20 added on. This is the time to change your life by changing your way of thinking and doing things.

      @mickeywhitlock162 - Appreciate you watching and posting from your own experience. Your advice about changing the way of thinking and doing things is imperative from what we've seen while filming over the past 25 years. It makes all the difference. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

    I'm always looking at those videos and I can't understand why the camera person always says I'm trying to wait until the noise stop. I believe they have been doing this to long to know when they enter in them type of places it's like a 5 percent chance it might be quite.

    • @CalamariProductions
      @CalamariProductions  21 день назад +1

      @TonyaWilliams-vh9ng - Thanks for bringing this up. Typically when we're filming, we're filming to produce documentaries. You'd be surprised at how many network execs expect "clean" audio. And yes, you're right--"quiet" in prison can be almost impossible. That said, our photogs always try their best to make sure when it comes to interviews, there aren't slamming doors in the background. It's just what we're used to because we know we'll get called out for it later on :). Thanks for watching!

    They look innocent. But they’re in there for a reason. I know their family is, either, happy they are put away, or stressed for the same reason. Been there, done that, with my younger brother. SMH. Bless God…he woke up and survived his bad decisions.

      None of us are innocent in the world period. But some of these young men are definitely not guilty of what the system alleged.

      @CalamariProductions  13 дней назад

      @lbrahim-ei4ij - we've heard from many adults later in life who served time as youth that it was maturity that ultimately made the difference. That, and learning to stay away from the bad influences that always seemed to get them in trouble. Thankfully, kids can change, and hopefully they haven't done anything so tragic that it ruins their lives (and others) forever. We appreciate you being here with us on our channel.
