America has given black people their own month of the year, holidays, affirmative action, TV channel, awards shows, scholarships, and colleges. If you think that’s oppression, then I’d hate for you to see what happens in Sudan and China. When you’re given preferential treatment and special privileges, the smallest thing feels “racist.”
Good God, what an idiot!
Geezus you are an idiot! Education is free, get educated then speak. You’ll be more credible
@@jbell73986 “get educated.” Lol, you realize I have a Bachelor’s degree and MBA from two top 10 universities, right? My level of education is greater than the vast majority of the American population. Also, you successfully refuted none of the privileges I mentioned that are unique to black people.
Im a retired AF Lt Colonel. Ive experienced what he’s talking about, what is your experience on this topic?
As an Asian American, I fully agree with Secretary Austin’s assessment. However, the solution is seldom one sided. It requires more than just chastising white people for racial bias.
But minorities also have to step up and even compete and fight for leadership roles. Even when they come under intense scrutiny.
Secretary Austin mentioned that many times he is the only black man as he was moving up the ranks. Those opportunities exist for all Americans of all races. No one is really held back. So he could’ve had company of other black individuals while he was moving up the ranks. And even white Americans have their abilities questioned while moving up the ladder.
I disagree.... from personal experience I can tell u they only allow 1 Black to move up at a time.... so they can claim "Diversity".Especially in corporate America. Im the only black at my job. My wife the only black at hers....my friends share the same experience.
@@yoyo-cp6zd But you have to look at the entire ladder structure. What do the engineering and business schools look like? These are places that are not white privilege. They are quite diverse, in a sense that it is not all white.
In fact I would say colleges and universities bend over backwards with quotas to allow black and Hispanic students in.
@@howardl664 Are you implying that “Blacks and Hispanics” are not smart enough to get in without quotas? We’re just as intelligent as whites and Asians, why do we need quotas?
White people aren't the only ones who can or who have committed racial bias. Non-White people can & also committed racial bias. Not to mention a person can experience actual racial bias from someone of the same race as well as from someone of a different race.
@@richburgh532 I never said anything about intelligence. But I was implying “will”. If there are less blacks and Hispanics graduating from colleges and universities in STEM as a percentage of their respective populations than whites and Asians, and we agree it isn’t a matter of intelligence, then it is either a matter of “will“ or it is discrimination.
And what I am saying is that it is very heavily weighted towards the “will“.
America does not have a policy of keeping any group out of the educational system. And what I am saying is that if anything it bends over backwards for both blacks and Hispanics. I have personally known Hispanics that were given opportunities handed to them on a plate. And I am talking about the 70s and 80s. But they turned it down because they just simply didn’t want to study for so long.
This country, the United States of America, bends over backwards to give those who are disadvantaged an education.
And it’s not just blacks and Hispanics, it’s all races. I worked with a young lady once, a young white woman, who had her tuition completely paid for by MIT. When I asked her why they would do that, she said her father was a farmer, and only claimed $8000 a year in income. And she got good grades in high school. And as a result, she got four years of MIT tuition paid for.
The General and Secretary is well understood that some people that would appear to not be hearing, experienced the exact same reaction from subordinates. But then race is still an issue in this country. as long as you are qualified, there is no problem. Race relations is an interesting condition. Trust issues come from racial interactions. Basic Trust issues is something that is in the mind of the individual no matter the race or color. Stereo typing and the fact that there is a difference that is distinct. Color of skin. Naturally in the mind there is a barrier or the general himself would not have brought up the thoughts of his skin color. The General and Secretary must think in a way that is neutral at all times. Leaving thoughts alone that question without objectivity issues of race. This can be hard sometime but then discipline is. There may never be a time that a natural condition that exist in the minds of men, is fully overcome. But then if the thoughts that come to mind of color of skin pass in the minds of those like the general and Secretary, there would be progress. Rest assured that any that are subordinate to the Secretary will listen up, because their training takes precedent. A general is a general and the Secretary of Defense is a job that requires the kind of education that a general possesses.
Never sell a one legged
Heartbreaking! Thank you for sharing these experiences with the rest of us, Secretary Austin and 60 Minutes.

Okay but here's the thing: we need to be able to have open dialogue about this without being labeled. The truth is, I do care. But, I am white and I have many times felt exactly the same way. As if I was not being listened to. Sometimes I thought it was because I didn't have enough experience. Sometimes I thought it was because of my Southern accent. Sometimes I thought it was because I was overweight. Sometimes I thought it was because I did not go to a big-name school. I'm just being 100% honest here. I have always just thought that it was normal for everyone to feel like this sometimes and we just have to develop psychological toughness - just like this great man did. If we start making people believe that they don't have to deal with their own psychological challenges, then we will have unfair bias in the opposite direction. Is that any better?

This fine general persevered and he has gotten his reward. Let's stop this complaining of racism and get to work. One child at a time.
No matter what we do it's never the "right thing" ... I've been doing this my entire career ... even settled at a good Firm and stopped moving around because I'd sacrifice so many nights and weekends I figured "they know me"... but all it takes is a group of new people to decide you dont belong, gang up on you and set traps for you.... now in addition to excellence in your work, you have to deal with it again..... we are humans... its demoralizing, time consuming and just a drain....
So he has an agenda, who would be disqualified from a jury for being biased.
Can racism ever ends in the US??
Conceivably, yes.
Racism needs to stop it won't if they keep blaming someone else a four star general really sounds like you made it
Sadly as long as humans continue to exist all prejudices including racism will never end
Did he file an EO complaint
He wouldn’t have made it to his next rank if he did. Additionally, look at the regulation for EO, his case or mishaps didn’t break the black and white for EO. He would have no case.
I didn’t particularly like the way I was treated in the military and I served 20 yrs. Does racism exist, sure thing. But sometimes it’s also the way the military generally operates with A type personalities at every intersection. Come on man, you made 4 Star General. That says a lot.
It's what being a minority is. It has benefits as well. Why is this news?
He reminds me of General idi Amin, former president of Uganda
Hopefully this general will being a new perspective to the military. Not just race relations but solidarity in the ranks and good leadership.
The minute this guy stood for a "Stand Down" to investigate for Extremists in the Military he lost all respect! I served over 2 years in the Military. When this administration uses the word "Extremists" they mean Conservatives. Most Military personnel vote Republican because they treat the Military better, with pay raises, equipment, family resources and even respect. The most unenjoyable and worst administration I served under was Clinton. He didn't like the Military had no respect for us and we lost some key benefits and felt unappreciated.
Notice how he regarded himself as a Black man and not an African American. He just told you what he was, yet everyone feels comfortable with calling him something else. Not every black person subscribes to the African American category. Nothing against Africa or anyone who has that descent but there shouldn't be a caveat to anyone (especially people of color) of Americans born and raised in the Americas.
We Africans didn't force you to be called African Americans. You went to white house and asked for that name.
Wow.
And yet . . . His title is what?
Amerikkka
No nation is has ever been free of prejudice, bias or hypocrisy
