I did the same thing as Geezer above and clicked a zillion times but the "x" on Work Offline in the tab on top didn't disappear - well, I found out that it doesn't need to disappear on top! I clicked it again and looked at the tab on the bottom and the "x" disappeared below - so all is good! Thank you for the video - I have been pulling my hair out for days!! :)

Great thanks, worked for me. I was pulling my hair out yesterday, thought I'd leave it over night, but still not working this morning. Gave it a try before call the £150/hour tech guys, and it works. I feel quids in. Cheers.

Have you changed your password for those accounts recently?
If so make sure you change them in the Outlook. Also check your internet connection.
The offline comes up when your connection is flakey.

The problem that seems to affect quite a lot of Outlook users is that the Work Offline button won't change to online. There seem to be various solutions but none I've tried so far have worked.
This problem arose recently for me. Outlook persists in being in 'work offline' mode.
Why did developer even gave that option of going offline! What a bummer

Nice clip, but: the video does not show that you need a OST file and does not explain how to create on. If you upgrade from Office 2003 to 2013 you need to create a new Offline Store file, you can't use the old one. As long you do not have the OST file configured, you do not have the "work offline" button.

If you have tried it about 50 times. Try opening your task manager and go into processes and kill your Outlook.exe, it is possible that you have two outlook.exe started and the program is kinda confused because you have two instances open.

Go back online
When you’re ready to work online again, click Send / Receive > Work Offline. The button text doesn’t change, but it’s only highlighted when you’re working offline. Working Offline on the status bar also goes away when you’re working online.

I can certainly understand the "click on..." instructions, but have tried it about 50 times. Don't be such a snob, "rattyboy31". With a little surfing, you'll find this has been an issue with outlook 10 as long as it has been out. Scores of people online have the same complaint. I followed all of the instructions diligently, and it still won't go away, so take your "holier than thou" condescending ending attitude and shove it...not to a thread where people are sincerely trying to get help.

Help! I tried all the "normal" reset from offline to online, but nothing resets it. I can receive emails, but not send them. I have made no changes to my computer or programs.
Did you reset your password recently?
found it but its a sad commentary on society that people can't understand "Click on the send/receive tab and work offline is in there".
In my case, when switching modes between offline and online doesn't work, I simply connect to VPN and disconnect.

I can't get it to work. I checked Task Manager and don't have 2 outlook.exe processes running
How come this has worked for others? I have an exchange and where are the notes please. Working offline is jammed on and it is not as easy as toggling send/receive

When you are connected to or supposed to be connected to Microsoft Exchange it would be wise to make sure that your DNS settings on your network adapter is pointing to the domain controllers. It is also advisable to add entries in the DNS tab of your network adapter that point to your Exchange server and domain. This is something that seems to happen a lot with Windows 7. If you notice that you are asked to join a network or home group when you go different places in the public or if you are at a friends house and/or you have a lot of wireless networks. Still we are talking about wired networks and yes it does apply to these as well. So, Please make sure that you are connected to the "Network" ie (Home, Network 1, Network 2, etc) that is on the same domain as your mail server or can contact your mail server.

They are not always picked up when you join the network. Many times we join a network and we may have static ip addresses and in so having these static ip addresses we usually have static DNS addresses as well. So we have to make sure that we either add the DNS servers for that network into the DNS setting under the "Advanced, DNS" tabs in the adapters properties. Otherwise, the adapter will go searching for the DNS server for the network through the DNS servers that are there.
I am facing this problem for sometimes due to my internet connection keep disconnected very often and it become keep indicating the work offline mode once I open outlook (all the time I open it). Now my internet connection is stable, but it still have the same problem, I want to fix it to let it online anytime I switch outlook on automatically (I am using Outlook 2013).

I think I answered your question on the 123myIT.com website. However I will repeat it here. The next steps I would try would be to create a new account from scratch. Dont delete the old one just create a new one and see if you have the same problem.

Hi Rabie, Check your internet connection. Usually it will go offline when the wireless signal is not great. Thats the first thing to check ?
