Really nice job on the two bowls, Kimsey! I don't think anyone will see those cracks but you! I sure don't think they hurt anything and likely won't get any worse. Great finish on both of them! I like the way you finish your recess's, too! It was fun watching your wife with the snake. She's braver than I am! LOL! Keep'em coming, buddy! 😊 Phil
Good afternoon, Kimsey. I like your video. You described the wood and gave the dimensions, talked about how you determine the depth of the bowl. Cracks and how to fix them. Wood moisture is important and your process for finishing the bowls. All important things to end with excellent pieces. Very rewarding.
Howdy Ray and Good Morning, Thanks glad ya enjoyed the video. I’ve been trying to be more explanatory about stuff thanks for the feedback and also have had music pickers block 🤔 If that’s even a thing 😄 I searched for some sort of a tune to put at least at the end of the video and just couldn’t settle on anything….. But anyway Take care and have a good one buddy 🤝
😄 Thanks buddy i appreciate it!, I feel the same way after watching other people’s turning videos, I don’t always get to go turn though, Happy Turning 😎🤝
Pretty good you sed, i reckon their awesome bowls, had a few hic ups long the way, but you soon over come them. Some grand nature pictures and film at the end, we have sunshine today and no wind bout time too. You take care mind them snake's All the best from Lincolnshire UK
CRICKY Kimsey what amazing video love the woodturing as usual just brilliant piece. I also love slowmo reverse footage. It's only a suggestion but if you can get to the belts on the lathe, put a little bit of honey on the inside of the belts. Not to much, honey is sticky. Howdy Ernie! Glad ya enjoyed the video Buddy 😎 I would try that but there’s quite a bit of ants 🐜 around and if they got a wiff of that honey 🍯 they would be in the belt department eating the honey and probably on my belts Lol😄 Thanks for the suggestion though 🤝
Hey Kimsey great to see you having some lathe fun - I love the bowls that you made, Ambrosia Maple sure looks lovely! Really nice to see the beautiful countryside there too 👍👍what type of snake was that? Anyway I hope you and your family are all well - all the best!
Howdy Paul! Thanks and glad you liked the bowls buddy 😎 I do like turning the ambrosia maple, It was just a black snake by my judgment but could be a specific type that I don’t typically know but it’s not venomous, Thanks and take care buddy 🤝
When you flipped the bowl and realized it wasn’t running true was when you should have trued up the outside before proceeding to the inside. Hollowing would have gone smoother with less vibration.
Probably did definitely add to the vibration, but there is also something wonky with that lathe also the bearings or something, can’t figure it out because sometimes it doesn’t do it, thanks for your advice 🤝
It’s a Dewalt Rotary sander Variable speed, 5” disc hook&lock paper, I got it at Lowe’s also HomeDepote has them, it’s a jam up sander, it’s a little swirly on the inside sanding the bowls sometimes almost slings it out of my hand, spins really fast and removes some serious tear out, outside sanding is the easiest with that thing, i wish there was like a 3” sanding pad for it, Glad you enjoy the videos!😎
Definitely worth it though from my experience, cost around 80 to 90$ depending on where ya get it, it spins extremely fast also I have actually sliced my kneecap with the over hang of the sand paper it spins so fast even cut through one of my coats zipper and all, thought I would inform ya of that, just don’t think of a sander much of being dangerous but I’ve had a couple of things happen that I would never have thought about happening 😬

Thanks I appreciate it! 🤝
I’ve often thought about trying to bend it back but I’m afraid it will break…

Would you mind giving me the model number of that Dewalt sander you are using? Like your videos.
