    Man massive props to the guys that padded to his aid immediately and took those sets on the head. Complete disregard for their own safety. Real hero's

    Stoked that you are Ok, Mikey, and great interview Jamie. You know it was not that long ago when surfers were considered stoners, bums, outcasts of society, and this interview shows how wrong those assumptions are. Two intelligent men discussing a life changing experience articulately, showing there knowledge of the wave, life saving techniques, and the need for us all to learn them,
    But also the camaraderie that surfers have, and the balls to put themselves in harms way to help another human being. That was heavy! Bless all of those involved, Proud to call myself a surfer.
    Met Mikey a few times and he has always been such a nice guy, and as we all know he rips. Glad you are still with us buddy, and I pray for a speedy and full recovery.

      He for sure needs to give it a lot of time for his brain to heal so he doesn’t get knocked out as easily(easy being relative!) It’s like fighters that lose their chin over time. That first wipeout potentially would have been fine but his previous TBI probably lowered his threshold for maintaining consciousness after impact.

    Insane to watch it play out, he is so incredibly lucky the first two guys were watching him and the third as well, you can see them all take it on the head, seconds count and can't be overstated and thank God for his helmet too. Way to go to everyone involved, so glad Mikey is ok.

    That was really good. Thanks for the interview. Glad you're okay. Blessing to have those first responders. This is probably the best inside look at what it's really like to surf pipeline that I've seen. Mad respect. Life or death every time you paddle out at pipe when there's solid surf. Hopefully more surfers will wear helmets at pipe. Look forward to seeing you back in the water.

    Seems to have some CTE (common in Football Players, Boxers, UFC Fighters) going on. He needs to take a nice long break and clear his mind. He's very lucky to be alive.

    • @NKCooper11

      How can you tell he has CTE from this interview?

    • @supremespanker
      @supremespanker 3 года назад

      CTE is common in big wave surfing, just from hydraulic forces presumably, but of course hitting bottom, board is even worse.

    All you big wave guys are called maniacs but it’s a calculated risk every time at least with the professional guys I hate how inflatable vests are giving guy’s confidence that shouldn’t be there ! Lifeguards & nippers here in Australia 🇦🇺 are so important if you are ever going to give to a cause this is one that could save your life one day the Grom training today to be a lifeguard is the man that might save in ten years 🤙🏻😎🌊🇦🇺

    • @grahamjarman

      the reef is what makes the wave break consistently, not to mention its an integral part of the aquatic ecosystem

      The Coral Reef could be removed and replaced with a Concrete Slab. The Environmentalists would be against it. Estimate 10-20 Million Dollars?

    • @sanfranciscobay
      @sanfranciscobay 3 года назад

      @@mahnli It would make the waves break more consistent. A concrete bottom that could be adjusted in angle, height, closeness to shore would produce better waves.
