    Hello to all of my Healthcare brothers and sister!
    The 2020 AHA Guidelines are out. I have posted the new videos for BLS, ACLS, and PALS: ruclips.net/p/PLhOFBB3AV9swkQ1KUodrLKmxvEbI3R0-R.
    These changes will not take place until February 2021; however, these concepts are currently being taught in your courses. ☺️❤️

    Nice work. I suggest you wear a mic to avoid the echo chamber. I think it helps to relate things to the physiology (providing a few graphics). Like why narrow complex is supra-ventricular. Note: does for Epi is always 0.1 ML/kg (*volume not drug dose) regardless of concentration--a trick I learned as a flight nurse. Makes it easy to draw up without all the confusing zeros.

      Thank you for the tremendous feedback Bill and study tips Randall ☺️❤️ I can imagine you have some much wisdom to share being a flight nurse. I am terrified of airplanes but I always found the career path fascinating. I am looking to purchase a wearable mic in the near future because the know the echo can be annoying especially when you are listening with headphones. ☺️

    Thanks for getting to the point with this review. I take my PALS renewal on 5/12/21 and I know everyone had to watch the AHA PALS precourse work and even though they put a lot of time in it, all the extra "fluff" made it a drag to watch hoping they would just get to the information most of the time. Thus, you loose interest. Thanks again for your hard work and time you put into this.

      Many healthcare organizations are going to PALS certification for their critical care providers. I have worked for at least three organizations that required me to maintain the PALS certification. The care of a pediatric patient is vastly different than the care of an adult patient. I would like to applaud all providers who care for the pediatric population. You are amazing!!

    around 24:41 when discussing the max amount of epi being 1 mg do you mean 1mg max at the time of administration or during the course of the code?

    • @NurseCheung
      @NurseCheung  2 года назад

      Great question mae mae 😊💜 The max dose of Epinephrine in the Pediatric Cardiac Arrest Algorithm is 1 mg each time it is given. Since epinephrine is weight based in pediatrics, it is essential to create a limit on the amount of epinephrine we administer every time to prevent any overdosing of medication. The American Heart Association maxes out this dosage to 1 mg that can be repeated every 3 to 5 minutes.

    I'm a bit confused. if PED has a heart rate less than 60 and we do CPR, when do we ever treat the Brady? i.e pace, episode, Atropine?

    • @NurseCheung
      @NurseCheung  3 года назад

      That is a great question Adrian Mondragon ☺️💜 The thing with pediatric patients is once their heart rate goes below 60 bpm, they tend to decompensate very quickly and require CPR. Pediatric vital signs are different than adults where a child between 1 to 2 years can have a normal heart rate between 80 to 130 bpm. If the child's heart rate is 50 bpm, then we know they are not perfusing well. It is better to maintain perfusion quickly and try medications while we are performing CPR than to use medications alone. Medications alone do not always address perfusion. I hope that answers your question.

  • @michaellaviola3125
    @michaellaviola3125 2 года назад

    At what ages does an HR less than 60 bpm require CPR. I've head that for Neonates but not sure what the cut off is for pediatrics?

    • @NurseCheung
      @NurseCheung  2 года назад

      Great question Michael Laviola ☺️ So the current 2020 algorithm guidelines state this measure for critical ill children and infants. Infants guidelines apply to infants younger than 1 years of age and children guidelines apply to children 1 years of age until puberty.
