- This is from Steve Green's one and only "In Concert" video from 1987. While the video may be old - the music and Steve's voice is timeless. This hymn is a favorite of all Steve Green fans. This is a live version of the original 1984 recording. He recorded a newer version in 1994. He always recieves a standing ovation when he performs this.
The first time I heard Brother Green sing this was back in the 90s; it doubled me over and I wept heartily... I’m wise enough to listen and watch it only when I’m alone because it still renders me powerless and reduces me to tears.
In my opinion, Steve sings this song as the author would have intended: Strong and powerful. His delivery matches the power of the words. I like the elevation as the song progresses.
Martin Luther wrote this in defiance of those who would oppress the Gospel. I would agree with you that Luther would have been well pleased to have heard sung as it is here.
@@k9builder The Reformation was funded and arranged by the Synagogue of Satan to divide Europe because Castilla and Portugal were going to spread Catholicism everywhere, and there needed to be checks and balances lest any faction rebel against the elite Jews and their satanic Templars running Europe and thereby the world. The same Jews who persecuted their own people to hide their tracks counterfeited Christianity using their pawn Constantine to create Roman Catholicism.
I prove what I say in my series exposing heretics, and also "The British Empire Was NOT The Biggest," as well as "Islam was invented by Jews."
Martin Luther only pretended to be anti-Semitic in order to hide the identity of his puppetmasters.
See also "Spain created the British Empire and the USA."
The cross is an image Protestants bow to or treat as Jesus himself. The Bible forbids doing such a thing. The whole world is blind.
Steve Green, Michael Card, Wayne Watson and Twila Paris ministered at a "Classic Christian Concert" in May of 2012 in Fayetteville, NC. Marty and I were there and enjoyed it immensely. Steve was the last artist and ended his portion with this song. And yes, people rose to worship God and appreciate Steve's delivery. A Mighty Fortress IS our God!
I have heard it said that singing this particular song for this voice is as difficult and taxing physically as singing anything from Wagner's operas. I have friends that have sung Opera for years and Wagner is something they say that a good opera singer will not sing for more than a few years because it does ruin the voice. However, this particular recording of Steve Green is when his voice was at its prime and has delivery. Of course God is always watching over him especially when he performs. This is my favorite version of the song and particularly my favorite performance of it. Steve Green fan forever and have been since before he did this performance.
This performance never fails to stop me in my tracks. God is great. Jesus is King. His word is true.
His version is so Powerful. My mother is passing soon. This was her father's favorite hymn ( and mine). It reminds me to rejoice in the Lord when hope seems far away.
I'm 40 and I find myself going back to this particular version. What a heart behind the delivery!
Don't know anything about this guy, but this is a MIGHTY song and performed here beautifully and with great conviction. This world needs more of this !
He grew up on the mission field in Argentina and has a ministry also in Spanish. He also sings about faithful marriage with his wife.
Beautiful! Almost 6 years ago this was taped. Yet, nowhere on this internet will you find a better version, as it was meant to sing. Steve Green truly loves our Lord Jesus!
'And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us: .....! Thank you so much for keeping this on here! Our Lord Jesus will prevail. He conquered the grave for us! Hallelujah! \o/ JESUS IS LORD!
Just came across this and WOW, so powerful and such a bold beautiful voice
In 1989 our daughter and soon our son brought this album to us in South Africa. I thank God for your encouragement and your ministry.
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
I've had the awesome experience of singing back-up for this man... He is truly a singer of great and moral character blessed to sing to God! Very, very humble guy.
oh i forgot to mention, look at his posture. standing straigt up, and when he reaches high notes not effort at all! there is not knee bending or anything like that.... it all about the breath control, what a singer! Truly a gift from the lord!
The "romantic Christian contemporary worship" is light years far away from the powerful declaration of biblical truths that can make the earth Tremble like this hymn! Hymns that are rich in real theology about the real attributes of God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit that literally brake you into pieces.
God is looking for true worshipers that worship in spirit and in true! Sing what you know about God not about your feelings or the sensations you are getting out of the mysticism through music like many "Christian bands" now are playing creating some kind of mystic atmosphere emphasizing music to get your attention and to fill buildings with people.
Christian rap is one of the only contemporary styles that can rival hymns in theological exposition
Perma Frost Hi! would you be so kind to tell me one rap band? I want to listen to some.
i totally agree brother. Saw Steve in concert in Ottawa Ontario Canada and his voice and the words cut you to the core
Does not rival at all except in a Biblically unsound generation that chooses mushy faith to the faith of the early church
Amen, brother.
In tears!!! NO ONE sings like this anymore!! His power and passion....God given! I'm 22 but still LOVE Steve Green!!
What a gift he received!! It is a blessing for him to share it with us.
The Christian's victory over Satan and sin is so powerfully demonstrated in this song!
Profound, stirring lyrics. They were true 500 years ago when composed, true today and true forever.
I keep coming back to this. God is awesome!
We need music like this. There is a place for soft and gentle music, but we also need music that rings with conviction and might.
“The Lord has said to me in the strongest terms: ‘Do not think like everyone else does. Do not be afraid that some plan conceived behind closed doors will be the end of you. Do not fear anything except the Lord Almighty. He alone is the Holy One. If you fear him, you need fear nothing else. He will keep you safe.”
(Isaiah 8:11-14 NLT)
Thank you for posting this scripture it is powerful. and i needed to read and know it
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
How spot on for the last two year’s
Isaiah 8:11-14
[11]For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
[12]Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
[13]Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
[14]And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
The Battle Hymn of the Reformation SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!!!!!
The most remarkable rendition of this hymn ever made!
I have long loved to listen to his beautiful, classically trained voice, but this is the first time I have ever seen him sing. Amazing! It’s an even more powerful experience.
Ohh how I love this hymn and Steve Green singing it. The doctrines of grace recited so beautifully.
This is my fav. hymn and he sings it to the high heavens!!!! Just great!
This s my favorite hymn, too. And, this is my favorite version of it. This is just astounding. Steve's passion and anointing are breathtaking. He is my absolute favorite. Praise the Name of Jesus -- A Mighty Fortress is our God!!!
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
YES, YES, YES!!! That is the power of the anointing. Glory to God. Amazing
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
i never tire to listening to Steve Green praise the Lord! thank you, Jesus!
I love the way he sings it!! :)
S
Awesome singing you got it.
I love the way he takes the key signature higher and intensifies the impact of each verse.
I don't know if I've ever heard anything this beautiful!
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
I agree... I thank our God for singers like Steve because they sing with the strength of the caracter of God, who is MIGHTY AND FIRM in his WORD and ACTS. Praise the Lord!! :)
It’s so cool to stop and think about how God gifted a writer and then a singer years later to help us worship and marvel at God’s character
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
This song is in my spirit, train up a child, I heard this hymn as a child never left, music imprints itself to our soul and spirit, so share with a child and kids today!
The Truth and nothing but The truth Awesome song!!!!
Finally a version of this song that is perfect in tempo its hard to find that anymore.
Thats the most amazing thing I have ever heard. There is no vocalist on the planet who could do that as well as Steve did back in the day.
A great hymn sung by a great singer.
The way he enunciates the words and gives feeling to them. The man is an artiste.
Wow tears in my eyes and all I can say is glory to GOD.
Hearing this version is Amazing!I heard it twice in concert and it will send chills up and down your spine a couple of times. Never heard it sung so powerfully since.
So much Biblical truth is in this hymnal
Amen.
The Reformation is 500 years old this month. Luther would be so proud of Steve!
Wow, He sounds go good I did not even notice no music instruments in the back ground until 3 minutes into him singing.
This is my favorite hymn also....Steve Green is so blessed with his voice, giving all the honor and glory to God.....I am a Baptist...a Christian.....last I knew, Lutherans are Christians too....my Daddy was a Lutheran and he WAS A CHRISTIAN
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
Lutherans might be Christian but their church sure isn't anymore
This is by far the most beautiful interpretayion of this hymn I have ever heard. It is profoundly moving.
I think this is my favorite performance of any hymn.
I love this song sung in a capella. I saw him perform this at America's Keswick, Colony of Mercy in 2001. It still brings me to humble tears.
Classic hymn...well rendered and speaks Truth to encourage the faithful. Steve Green all the way!
Amen! Christ is our Mighty Fortress! In HIM we are more than corquerors! In HIM we can win the sin, and in Him we are make "partaker of the Divine nature"...
Ohhhhh.....I remember hearing him in person. My soul lifted from the voice, the voice that God gave to him. The so called “worship” songs can not reach the soul because there is no theology in them. I believe there will be singing and glorifying our Father in heaven like this. As worship is a preparation for God to prepare our hearts. There’s way to much talk before services, getting up during the service to get more coffee. I’m so sorry that churches have done this. I only play hymns. They speak to me, to my spirit, the Holy Spirit gives goose bumps. I miss your music Steve. Thank you for allowing God to use your voice to bring me back to how AWESOME my God is.
I've listened to ths several times and still get chills.
On this Easter wkend this song is a powerful reminder of our kings endless power and beautiful sacrifice for all his children. Steve Green voice is strong as a mountain also..
speechless!!! Mighty voice - Mighty God! Jehovah Sabaoth!!!
11 times in a row.
Soul shaking!!!
Praise God Almighty!!!
What a Beautiful, Powerful, Majestic voice the Lord gave to this man!
He does an awesome job of capturing the emotion and spirit of this great hymn that Martin Luther wrote during the Reformation of the Church in the 16th century!
I'm quite sure Luther would have given his approval!
You're right about the standing ovation - he gets one every time I play it!
A funeral dirge compared to other songs and hymns; yet, is saturated with the most surprisingly uplifting message of any I've heard. This is my father's favorite hymn. Truly touching and timeless.
I have seen Steve Green many times in concert. I also remember him being in The Gaither Vocal Band when they first started out. This is excellent.
LOVE IT SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!! BEAUTIFULLY SANG BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL WORDS!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 HALLELUJAH!!
This has always been my favorite hymn; I want it performed at my funeral. It was a pleasure to hear "A Mighty Fortress" sung by such a powerful and talented artist. Thanks!
We were singing this song in Wittenberg 3 months ago. Awesome melody, awesome lyrics
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (October 17), our Sunday School Lesson was taken from Psalm 46:1-7. It was entitled "God Is My Refuge." This was recommended as a Sunday School assembly hymn.
Steve Green will always be one of my all-time favorites. And this particular old hymn is one of my favorites of his. I remember during an interview he said some doctors wanted to put a tiny surgical camera down his throat and watch his vocal chords as he sang because he had such a rich, pure voice. Little did he know they would ask him to sing . . . "A Mighty Fortress" . . .
I pray God will continue to bless Steve so he can continue to powerfully minister God's Grace and Majesty!
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
Amazing voice. This hymn is one of my favourites. Again amazing voice
ALWAYS COME BACK TO STEVE GREEN SINGING A MIGHTY FORTRESS---THE VOICE IS PROPELLED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT--HIS SONG GIVES ME STRENGTH AGAIN AND AGAIN
GLORY GLORY GLORY TO THE MOST HIGH GOD JEHOVAH. HIS TRUTH ABIDETH STILL!!
A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
2
Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side,
The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name,
From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
3
And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim,
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
4
That word above all earthly powers,
No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
Awesome! God's might and power is awesome. Mr. Green nailed this one! Bravo!
One of Luther's greatest hymns, written in his age of depression.
My favorite version of my favorite hymn, which was written by Martin Luther. Steve sings with such passion and conviction that it nearly always brings tears to my eyes.
you know everybody talks about david phelps and his great voice, which i agree he has. but steve green is something else i believe. he proved to have one of the best non operatic voices ever ! his voice is not only beautiful, but he has so much control.. and those high notes are amazin
We sang this in the Kingdome in Seattle at a promise keepers rally,it shook the dome.
Wow. Great rendition.
wow what an incredible job Mr. Green did on this terrific hymn
Wow - brave to do this totally unaccompanied. Fantastic hymn.
Wow--Love it! Thanks. I am amazed at such a fine voice(and with no accompianment). Yes!And the words are so comforting. What a great singer singing a great song!
hello How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
HOW did this crowd sit in SILENCE during this?!?!? I would have been shouting numerous times. The man is singing with all his heart about conquering the enemy of our souls, while "proper Christians" - supposed "soldiers of the cross" - sit by ENJOYING the song? CMON PEOPLE! GET ALIVE!!!!!!!!!
I totally agree! I thank our God for this man's singing! The puts the Lord's name high with the strength it should be because our God is mighty and firm :). Praise the Lord!
This is a very serious theological hymn, I loved this from my Teenage years. I pray that God will continue to Bless Mr. Steve Green.
I have this concert on VHS. This song is definitely my all-time favorite Steve Green song.
Classic hymn, beautifully sung and rendered. Brilliant singing by Steve Green. Thanks so much!!
I love all songs that praise my LORD and savior JESUS CHRIST and am familiar with this song which makes it one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen,no music and he looks like he's preaching, definitely believes what he is singing, brought tears to my eyes as well as goosebumps, very blessed to have seen this.all the praise ,honor and glory goes to JESUS CHRIST! Thank you for saving me.....
+david pridgen go to Rich Donovan' channel here on yt and you will aright hymns
I love this hymn.
SOLI DEO GLORIA.
Ever faithful, never changing God!
I thank God for Steve Green and this song.
Wow.. he does this acapella... oh my
Absolutely love that he does this a capella. Only a real vocalist is comfortable singing a capella and he does an amazing God. Gave me tingles and made me sweat. Hah.
If only musicians could mean what they sing as much as he did when he sang this. Some might call it playing it up, but it's the job of an artist to do everything they can't to express their art. A little acting isn't wrong at all if it's genuine. But I'm not sure if this is even acting. This guy's going at it.
Amazing!!!!!! :) To God be the glory! Powerful!
Such a powerful hymn.
Perfect song selection, amazing delivery! Thanks for this great video!
Wow! That's the first time I've heard him. You can tell he's singing it with all his heart. I like that. I sang this with 2 friends of mine at church about a month ago. One of my favorites.
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
This is an incredible song and sang amazingly, a capella too.(Sorry if that is spelt wrongly) Steve has an absolutely incredible voice, love it.
wow u are a true hero
breath taking. and most wonderful. thanks ever so much for uploading this fine hymn. truly the anthem of the reformation. ******
I'm torn when I watch this video! My favorite hymn, done EXACTLY the way it should be done, in voice and in Spirit! But...in today's worship culture i can't fathom the believers in the seats just sitting and listening quietly while Steve "performs". Yes, it is an awe-inspiring presentation, so one might say people are sitting in awestruck silence. But the WORDS! The TRUTH! The SPIRIT! I don't know how people didn't start applauding, NOT his performance but the truth being proclaimed do powerfully! i don't know how they didn't start singing along with these classic words of truth by the last verse. I don't think my body, voice or Spirit could have remained still during these moments. The very rocks were probably crying out around that stadium!
Wow, what a breath-taking performance! The lyrics and his phrasing are such a story to be heard. God never ceases to amaze me with the talent he places in some for the enjoyment of all.
he is amazing! I grew up listening to him. Both my partents love his music.
;the man of God's own choosing. You ask who doth that be, Christ Jesus IT IS HE!' Glory to God forevermore.
I really enjoy Steve Green. His ministry, voice and spirit are amazing.
What I even get a bigger kick out of is that he is often the "Poster Boy" for traditional music because of his love for the hymns.
When I see him mentioned in that context, I go to my record shelf and pull out the debut album from "Whiteheart" the Christian rock band: Steve Green was the original lead singer, my personal favorite of his is "You're the One"... funny thing is... ... IT ROCKS!
Should have millions of views!!!
