I’ve always loved Ergo Proxy. It’s not perfect by any means, but I always appreciated their ambition and what they tried to accomplish. Also, I heavily vibe with their art style.
I think its because, in general, the beginnig of the series is quite slow, and personally after my first watch i didnt understand anything, i needed to dig deeper to find how good it is
This show is easily in my top 5 anime of all time. I like it on pretty much every level of it (visuals, world, characters, etc.), and I'm glad there's people still out there who are giving it appreciation.
No anime is perfect and people with a decent level of intelligence understand this and appreciate how ambitious this show was. Watch with an open mind, don't go into it with an overcritical mind and you can even apply some of its philosophical concepts to your personal life. It's amazing!
You know the weird thing is before i ever knew ergo proxy i since birth had the existencial crisis thought eating me from the inside . I always asked why do i exist? and why am i here ? Then i met ergo proxy and what can i say but that this show was literally made for me ! Cogito ergo sum.
There should've been more episodes. There's definitely episodes in the later half of the season that could've been developed and expanded vastly by the creators. I also think that this has alot more theological motifs than it does with a broader philosophical method. Which remains why I find alot of pieces missing in both alot of analysis' and audiences interpretations of the show which remain unsolved about why both audiences and critics are torn on what this show means. Hell, I'm quite confused in my observation of the show. If anything, my only gripe with it was that it wasn't serious enough.
As much as I like ergo proxy I wish it handled it’s themes a little bit better but because it was not as popular as the creators were hoping for we never got that second season.
I would have been very surprised if an anime like this received a second season in the first place. Original high concept anime like Ergo Proxy, Lain, Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze, etc. rarely either seek or get a second season. They're not designed that way from the foundation.
"anemic narrative bridges" Yeah, I felt Ergo Proxy could have been better with a stronger narrative; I didn't enjoy the second half as much as the first cos of that.

Ergo Proxy is easily in the top 10 best animes ever created and it seems weirdly underappreciated. Kind of like Megalo Box Nomad.

This video is amazing, I really liked the explanation about Ergo Proxy universe and Descartes Philosophy
