That's a must-have for such a big rig. I love the patina you get using that method. Makes things look like they've been around 100 yrs. Enjoyed it, Andrew!
I got a notification when I was doing laundry and saw a picture of a shovel, and I knew it wasn't just a shovel! Good job Andrew. You knocking out of the park every time
What do you with the ashes you removed from the fire pit? I appreciate your comments explaining what and why you are doing...such as the round handle and the flattening of the other end and the desired angle of the flattened end. You just explained about the curved bottom of the shovel. That's exactly what I was thinking you needed to do when you explained the project in the introduction!
@@TKCLI was going to ask the same thing! I’ve heard that pot ash is good in the garden to help facilitate growth and nutrient absorption! Awesome job on making another useful tool!
On the open pit side you could weld some short pieces of square tubing about four to six inches weld one on the end and one on the cook box and use square stock that will slide inside of the ones you welded in place and build a Santa Maria style adjustable grill that you can remove for using as a pit. Just a idea. Good luck and God bless
after i got out of college i worked for a local foundry casting inserts for ag and industrial equipment, my mom bought me a leather apron to use, while i only worked there a year i use it welding all the time that was 35 years ago it is still going strong!! get a good one!! have fun
glad you heard me telling you through the phone about the apren! saves on your clothes! you just need some longer welding gloves to save your arms from weld splatter!
Looks great. I'm sure you thought of it. But I'm curious to know why not put a trapdoor in the bottom with a pail under to catch the ash. Curious minds. 😅
Hi, I can visualize a near full sized circumference flat sheet cut in a half circle about a foot high with two bicycle handle grips around a pipe handle T or L shaped bar or something? Used to plough the whole ash pile in one go to the end. Then on the outside a top hinged squircle shaped door at the bottom of the flat end with a latch. With access to either push or pull the ashes out to a fabricated metal ash bin for the embers to completely die out. Plus the wood ash is excellent for the garden PH to increase alkalinity right? Plus for the 4th of July pig roast ... Electric Grill Rotisserie Motor 110V 15W Stainless Steel BBQ Spit Rotisserie Motor 90LB Roaster ASIN B0BP1Y25HW . Yummy!
The rotisserie is for sure on my to do list. I could build some sort of pullout or removable ash pan. I'd prefer to do it on the open section and not cut into the end of the pit causing integrity issues. Not sure if I will go after this or not. The ash you seen me scoop was after many cooks over a few months. It all fit right into a single bucket. Apparently this is burning very efficiently. Ash in moderation is good for compost, I need to research how much is too much. Take care!
@@TKCL Wow I'm shocked too hear the high frequently low volume of ash, compared to a fire place that's Nothing!!! I assumed that was nearly every cook! An access door to push, pull fall down, rather than scoop lift dump. Just let it fall right into a wheelbarrow .. why fight gravity? Food for thought... Good luck !

Thank you for watching, hope you are doing well!
Nothing like a custom tool that you DIY'ed. Very cool stuff Andrew.
I love doing stuff like this.
Awesome video. That shovel will come in really handy for you. 😊

Good job! Hope to see everyone on the live tonight at 7PM EST! Come enjoy and have some fun!
Hi, Andrew! You continue to wow me with your talents. Cheers to you, Mr Thinker Tinkerer! See you at 7:00.
Thank you
now you need to make Tiffany a custom made snake handling tool for the chicken house
Lol
or a custom "get my sewing room done poker" heheh
Good Job and what a beautiful view behind you. Your property is really looking up...
Thanks
Nice project👍. If the shaft of the shovel is riveted to the blade it gives it an antic look.
Sure is nice to be able to build a tool that you may need. Works well for you. Nice job Andrew
Thank you
Very nice working custom piece👍
Thank you!
That was a brilliant idea!
Thank you
Forging in shorts. Sounds like something I would do! Comfort over safety! 😂😂
But when something does happen, just gotta own it!
That's exactly right lol
Very cool shovel.
Thanks

I dump the ashes, I might start mixing some into my compost pile. Thanks for the feedback.
@@TKCL I was just remembering that on Homestread Rescue, wood ash was spread on a poor area of soil that was needed for the garden.

@@TKCLI believe wood ash can also be used in the process of making soap?
@@TKCL Dump it in a pothole. It hardens up like concrete after time.
Another great project
Thank you!
You are so talented. Great new addition to your big boy toy box.
😂
Mr Andrew you have all the answers, I am amazed at what you come up with and the beautiful job you do building it, fantastic!! 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Thank you Mr Ron.
Yet another project Andrew made look easy, IT ISN"T. Well done Andrew.
Andrew is DA BOMB!!!!
Thank you both!
That is a good looking shovel, you are one talented dude. Another great job and interesting video.👍
Thank you so much
Andrew the Tool man!! Catch ya later on the live.
See you then
Another custom made tool. Pretty cool Andrew!
Thanks 👍
Are you keeping an eye on the tropics end of week?
You know I am. Let’s both keep our fingers crossed!
Awesome 👍💪
nice job. hope my first attempts turn out that decent. I want to make my own knives and axes

Not a bad idea.
Eastwood sells a metal cutting jigsaw with blades made for metal. Works well for making radius cuts in sheet metal.
I need to look into that

That's exactly right Mrs Lee!
If you took all these ideas that are in your head and sold them you'd be a millionaire!
That would be nice!
Andrew just curious do you do anything special with those ashes?
Not now, but I might incorporate some in my compost pile.
Looks great. I'm sure you thought of it. But I'm curious to know why not put a trapdoor in the bottom with a pail under to catch the ash. Curious minds. 😅
I could, but I'd still need to rake it out. It's too low for a bucket, so I don't really see it being as beneficial.
I believe that ash is good in your compost pile, right? Thanks as always for the great content
That is true
Looks like the heat inspires you to play with fire! Btw, is that t shirt a size up or you've gone a size down?:)))
Lol I've lost a little more weight.
You Umani'd the shovel lol
