    Hi Adam, do you have any advice for how to reflect upon the group excercise/role play afterwards?- I have an AC soon where we have to do this and I am unsure what I should/should not say if I want to succeed.

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 года назад +5

      Hi Nayen, that's a really good question.
      Similar to the question "what are your weaknesses?". They understand everyone has faults and no one is perfect. They're essentially wanting you to show humility and self awareness of how you performed (both good & bad!).
      When reflecting on the exercise, be genuine in your response. Don't say anything that would mean you don't get the role however if you could have performed slightly better somewhere, mention that. Of course, you need to be confident after giving a good performance, so mention where you think you really excelled.
      Best thing to do, is do your best in the exercise and reflecting on your performance will be easy!

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 года назад +3

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video!
      Good question, doing a bit of both can't hurt. The main thing is to understand the kind of exercises you'll get and the qualities they're looking for in a candidate (i.e. the assessors mark schemes). Once you've read a few cases and have a feel of what to expect you can always ask a friend or family member to role play and encourage them to challenge you in interesting ways to get you thinking how you'd respond when in a real group exercise.
      If you need some practice test material, I have a link in the description. Hope that helps!

    Hi Adam. I love this video! Such awesome tips. I hate Mr. Argumentative already! 😆 Would you be able to clarify something in your video please? I am a little confused about what you said at 6:56 “i won’t waste your time writing down objectives...” but then you DID write down the objectives (quickly)...how does that work?

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 года назад +2

      Hi Jane, thanks for the comment.
      GOOD question, that's my poor wording! I should have said "I won't waste any time WHEN I write down the objectives". Essentially saying, I'm still going to do it, but I'll be quick!
      Being clear on the objectives and agreeing the desired outcome of a meeting at the start is ALWAYS a good move (as calls often tend to go off in random directions and you can get stuck on moot points). Mr Argumentative just wanted a fight, but unfortunately for him, it backfired!

    Thank you for your very valuable advise. I have a virtual AC in a weeks time. Its the Civil service- Group exercise, written and role play- any specific tips, please?

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 года назад +9

      Best of luck. My best advice, is simply be yourself and try and enjoy the process. If you have made it this far, you have EVERYTHING they are looking for in a candidate. However! Below are some top tips...
      Group exercise - make sure your voice is heard however try not to dominate the discussion by bringing some of the quieter members of the group into the conversation by asking their opinion. Bring structure to the exercise (e.g. time keeping, being clear on objectives at the start, summarise your proposal at the end). When you're giving a suggestion, try to explain your thought process clearly (My thoughts are X, therefore I recommend we do Y - it's like showing your working when doing Maths!).
      Written - written tasks may include red herrings that don't need your attention and are purely there to distract you. Ensure you're clear what you're trying to achieve and ignore the "noise".
      Role play - this will be nerve racking but once you get going you'll forget about the assessors. Ask yourself before your respond (in your head!) what do they want me to say/what behaviours are they looking for - and give them that!

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 года назад +6

      Congratulations on making it to the assessment centre, if you've made it this far you have everything they're looking for in a candidate, it's just about letting your great qualities shine through on the day.
      You'll find that there will be lots of introverts at the assessment centre and everyone will be nervous! Your biggest challenge will be to make sure your voice is heard and you give the assessors enough content to mark you against.
      Be yourself and don't speak for the sake of speaking however ensure if you have a good point that helps the group, make sure to share it!

    • @AdamLuke

      Congrats on making it to the experience day, if you've made it this far you have everything they are looking for in a candidate so try and enjoy the process and be yourself!
      I imagine EY will be quite typical - a combination of group & individual exercises in the form of case studies/in-tray exercises/presentations. If you would like specific advice about EY, you could try reaching out to a current graduate at EY and ask them about their experience day.

    Hi ☺️ fantastic video!
    Thank you for sharing - it was extremely helpful!
    I have an AC day in a week and it is for my top choice graduate scheme.
    I didn’t get through my Amazon assessment centre day because I failed to showcase my ability to be analytical.
    I really want to make sure that comes across in this case study I am going to do next week. They have said the case study will test my ability to analyse information, reach conclusions and generate recommendations. Do you have any advice on how to approach an exercise this like?

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 года назад +2

      Hi Vicky, thanks for the comment!
      GOOD question! Being analytical is the ability to think logically, so ensure when you make a decision you explain the reasoning behind the decision. They will be less focussed on your final recommendation (however make sure it's a good recommendation!) and more focussed on how you reached your decision. Each exercise will likely have some calculations (e.g. figuring out the profit/costs of a project) so make sure you do this calculation and use it to support your recommendation.
      Practice tests are the best way to get familiar with assessment days/case studies and maximise your chances at securing your top choice!

      Yes it’s really not a competition, also calling people names makes him sound vindictive and isn’t professional either

    Are you allowed to make research on your phone during the group task?

      Group exercises are far more about working together as a team and collaborating with others. Researching answers on your phone won't score you any points and it may even work against you! I'd focus on getting to the correct answers together.
