Good video. If you could have shown in the wireshark trace, how the endpoint leverages STUN for the actual application, that would have been cool.

Great video!! - Important aspect, that should be highlighted is STUN enables the peer to peer communication (media), which break due to existence of NAT devices between the path.

great question, STUN started with collaboration services hosted in cloud use case but its use is growing in SaaS offerings now, for example Cisco SD-WAN vBond is your STUN server.

Very nice and informative video! I am pretty new to STUN and I have one general question. Is the sole purpose of the STUN server to return to the client it’s public IP and port? And then the client reports this IP:port to other application that is needing it? Like SIP server etc. Or is it that the STUN server keeps record for the client, and respond to other “interested parties” which is the IP:port for particular client, identified presuming some kind of ID?

Thank you very much for asking such a thoughtful question.. the answer lies in packet walk where request and response is depicted. However here is the detail - "The STUN server itself does not keep records or maintain state for clients. It simply responds to STUN requests with the client's public IP address and port. It does not actively notify other interested parties about the client's information. "
