  • MFJ-1777 is the antenna I decided to put up in place of a OCFD. The Off Center dipole worked well on the bands it was designed for, but I wanted a few other bands that would not offer without a horrible swr match. I was able to get this double it up at 80 feet, this puts the majority of the antenna about 30 feet higher than my last antenna. Higher is always better, right?!? My tuner is able to load up all the bands, I have been able to make contact on everyone so far. It also makes a great receive antenna on the low bands even though it's not vertical.

Both had freq that worked well. I change antennas often to try new thing. To find best antenna for you try several different kinds. Have fun & 73! AE7QT

Depends on what you want to do and propagation! Vertical has better take off angle... that means great DX with low antennas, and other times dipole is awesome.......... SO I would say go with BOTH!!!!!!!!! then you can find what is best for that moment.

At 80 feet it looks like it works. I tried putting it up at 20 ft. It didn’t work, I’m going to try a 80 meter doublet with 100 feet of 450 window line. Right now I’m using a OCF for 40, 20, 10, and 6 meters ?

Cool, i had 80-6 ocfd for a while, worked well! I tend to change antennas fairly often, not because my old one didn't work well but because I want to try something new. This is what you need to do to find the one that fits you at your location. Good luck have fun and 73! ae7qt

BTW mine is up at over 80 feet on the lowest leg, the highest leg is close to 100 feet

The student has a very wide-ranging matching ability. From 12ohms to 1600ohm. I think I had a little empty 1:1 balun, it was just a wire from the center conductor to one of the posts and from the ground conductor to the other post. All I had to do was just simply screw down the wires to each post and plug in the coax the little black box.

True. No CW, and very little SSB

All my voice QSO is while driving, they never get logged, even if the other guy sends log there is no way for me to respond with accurate info. When parked it is all about FT8...
