I've just found this video, 9 days out from Klagenfurt and even though I've read the athlete guide this video contained so much valuable information. Super informative and great for settling the pre race nerves. Thanks for posting
Thank god we found one another 😃 make sure to subscribe (so you don’t miss other valuable vids) and share with your tri friends so we can help as many as possible to that beautiful red carpet - good luck !!!
Completed IM Klagenfurt on Sunday so I just wanted to say thanks for this video as I watched it before the race and found it very useful. Gorgeous course in a lovely part of the world
Hey well done in Austria - awesome course! Delighted you found the video useful - be sure to tell your tri buddies about my channel and of course check out the rest of my coaching content too - your support means a lot to me 💪
@@CoachSteveMoody does the 500m run in transition get taken off the run course at all? I know we’re talking fine margins here, but every little helps! Haha
@@harryhopkins7848 man I love an optimist - no the run course is still 42km on its own right (could be worse in Mallorca and Italy - transitions are circa 1km long 😃)
Thank you so much for the super valuable tips presented in such a nice way. I think that from 2023 the date for the IM Klagenfurt moved from beginning of July to mid June (presumably to support tourism pre-season). Therefore I would assume a wetsuit swim is pretty sure🤔
Hey Steve, you are doing a great job with your video guides! Thanks a lot! I will start on Sunday in Klagenfurt and looking forward to the race. Although I’m quite angry about the IM - Fulgaz promise having the full course video ready for a trainer session. It is not, Klagenfurt still not available! All the best, Rainer
Thanks mate and yes annoying that fulgaz have not sorted the full courses yet - but no point in losing energy on it now - time to focus and deliver next week 💪
Thank you Coach Steve. Locals actually boast that lake water is safe enough to drink without prior treatment. Says a lot about the top notch water quality.
I just registered for next year’s race and this video is super helpful! Thank you! Given the hilly course and I believe 6000 feet of elevation gain, would I be better off on a road bike than a tri bike?
Good for you - to be honest I raced it on a tri bike and found it the right option - whilst hilly - it is more lumpy than any big hard climbs - so TT bike would be my recommendation
@@CatherineMartin-d9z very welcome - glad to help - lots more great content in the way so make sure to subscribe (and tell your pals) so you won’t miss out 💪
Hey Steve, thanks for the information information. What are views for first timers here? I had dnf in the previous year at Kalmar due to harsh conditions in terms of weather and visibility during the swim.
Sorry to hear you DNFed - for me - this is one of the nicest swims on the circuit and as long as you have put some time in getting your Open Water Swimming skills in non salt water up to speed (as I reference in training recommendations) - it is as first timer friendly as it gets

Hi Great video Just find it now I have a qestion : Can my support give me my food during the bike only on special need point or on every aid station? Thank for answer and see You on START
Getting food or any other assistance on the course from participants is not allowed and could result in getting a DQ (depends on how hard ass the referee is) - to the letter of the law you can only get food/hydration from the designated aid stations or from your pre dropped special needs bags (but good news is there are LOTS of aid stations as you can see from the video)
Very useful, thx coach. Additional ressources for those willing to see the actual course live? This is last years course with 2 different loops, but starting at 1:25ish you'll find this year course. ruclips.net/video/wzaQm6MgwSg/видео.html
Glad you found it useful and hope I earned your subscription as a result - so re the rain - it really only affects two things (swim you are wet anyhow and run you are drenched with sweat, tears and snot) 1) Dial down your bike pace - it will be more treacherous and whilst it will be tempting to push on the descents - it is not worth sliding out 2) Be UBBER vigiliant on your nutrition/hydration - as wet/damp - it tends to lead to athletes forgetting to eat/drink - will be a catastrophic mistake -stay on top of it Use your garmin alerts for both food/drink (this video shows how to set up) ruclips.net/video/rzNOYLC3w0s/видео.html Good luck and race safe my friend

Great course. Done 2011,12, 15 and 17. Beware of the smell locals with BBQ's while you're just chugging down gels!
And got you a Kona Q if I remember correctly with a sub 3 marathon to finish - chapeau my friend
Yeah, 2:59 in 2015 but then broke my collarbone 2 weeks before the race. Qualified again in 2017 with a slightly less speedy 3:02 marathon.
Swim does look mint .... how bad are those turns on the bike?
Sharp enough but as long as you pay attention to marshals you will be fine

Hi Steve, thank you for your response and the information.
Could you please advise on bike course whether it is doable for first timers?
Yes as long as you train correctly - it is a first timer friendly course and much easier bike wise than Nice, Lanza etc

CAUTION: be careful putting ice directly on your head.
fair point
How hard are those climbs on the bike, i mean would this course be good for a a not strong cyclist?
The climbs are not steep but more rolling so zap your legs if you don’t pace it well, use your gears well
Thank you, how long and what pct are the toughest ones, apx?
@brankoknezevic9569 I talk through the hard parts of the bike course in the video including a look at the elevation profile
The bike course 2024 seems to have a turn-around after 30km. Is this additional part of the course new in order to provide the full distance 180km?
Yes that’s correct
How easy to get to from airport.
We rented a car and was an easy enough trip tbh
