  • 1st Shade Variation (from La Bayadère) performed by Aurélie Dupont, Anastasia Stashkevich, Ekaterina Krysanova. The choreography is pretty the same but, as always, it's interesting to watch small differences in style, technique and interpretation. Let us know in comments who is your favorite and why :)

    It was very interesting to watch 3 different dancers perform this very difficult variation. Ms Dupont was very elegant with great musicality. The Bolshoi dancers had lovely flowing arms. Thanks!!❤❤❤

      Again, it is difficult and somewhat unfair to compare. None of the three can be faulted on technique, so it comes down to stage presence and artistic interpretation. Setting aside tempo which is normally out of the hands of the dancers, I loved Dupont for the reasons you mention, the final diagonal, as well as her spectacular balance at the end; Stashkevich for her energy and light, high jumps; and Krysanova for her overall elegance.

    So fun to see - loved it! Hands down for me is Dupont. Her tempo was slower, but her musicality and perfect technique blew me away. Thank for posting 😘

    This was danced by Magarita Kulik when the Kirov visited London in the 80s and she has never been surpassed in my eyes Her speed placing and end diagonal are Superb Well worth a look on YT somewhere

    Dupont moves nicely and gracefully - - and she has beautiful technical skills. The speed of the beat - - to Dupont's dance - - is slower - - nevertheless she has a good musicality. Dupont performed a difficult movement in her piece - - for example @ 0.35 0.42 she performs a - - double pirouette en dehors in attitude - - which is one of the - - most difficult pirouette steps - - to do. Stashkevich danced at a faster speed - - and she's most enjoyable to watch. I love how Stashkevich had ended her performance - - neat and clean. And Krysanova - - well - - Ekaterina's turns are - - ever so excellent. DLB - - thanks for posting.

    Aurelie! This variation is a confusing piece of choreography as it is extremely difficult to make the last diagonal look good; brutal, to say the least. Aurelie executes the last diagonal beautifully (and in a characterization of a shade, which many dancers do not). Regarding tempo, it is extremely rare that a dancer will get to set the tempo with the conductor, there may be some instances of communication but anyone in the comments who thinks there is an on-going dialogue is delusional.

    Мне понравилась Настя, хотя ей далеко до Риты Куллик. Лучшего исполнения этой вариации я не встречала.

    I wonder what the ballerinas at Les Ballets Trockaderos would do with this variation. The third-rate music just opens itself up to many comic possibilities.

    Версии БТ намного динамичнее и интереснее, темп гораздо быстрее и балерины легко справляются со сложной хореографией

    Grazie per il video. Secondo me il 3^ posto va alla Krysanova per via della sua espressività (poco adatta a un ombra secondo me) anche se l' allestimento è il mio preferito, il 2^ alla Dupont. Il primo posto secondo me va alla Stashkevich la più espressiva e con tecnica migliore secondo me.

    Stashkevich and Krysanova. Dupont is technically fine but her tempo always seems too slow. The Bolshoi and Mariinsky women take all of the shades variations at a lively tempo.

      Is tempo a matter for the ballet company's tradition, the production director, the director of dance, the conductor, who?!

    • @Marta44339
      @Marta44339 3 года назад

      @@elizzy8754 I would think the tradition of the company, the choreographer if alive, and the preference of the principal dancers. The conductor can't be the decider of the tempo of each principal's variation, since the conductor is not doing the dancing. Many Don Q productions by Russian companies seem to use faster tempi in the variations of the Grand Pas de Deux. Makarova, for example, in her adagio variation in Other Dances, is significantly slower than other women in this ballet. However, I'm not a professional dancer so I leave tit to someone who is to clarify.

      The dancer rarely gets to set the tempo, can we please stop this nonsense that dancers are setting their tempo with the conductor, they are lucky to get one live rehearsal.

    Dupont made it too slow and her jumps were a bit lazy.

    Slowing the music down makes it easier to dance but I don’t think it’s intended to be that way. Always thought that whoever set this piece had a grievance against the Corp dancers! It’s a devil to try to do it with the music. All enjoyable though 🩰🩰🩰🙏👵🇦🇺
