  • Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is directed by Wes Ball (the “Maze Runner” trilogy) and stars Owen Teague (“IT”), Freya Allan (“The Witcher”), Kevin Durand (Locke & Key”), Peter Macon (“Shameless”), and William H. Macy (“Fargo”). The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”) and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) and Patrick Aison (“Prey”), based on characters created by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and the producers are Wes Ball, Joe Hartwick, Jr. (“The Maze Runner”), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Jason Reed (“Mulan”), with Peter Chernin (the “Planet of the Apes” trilogy) and Jenno Topping (“Ford v. Ferrari”) serving as executive producers.

Ya. Deep down though. I wish that humanity at least didn’t turn into grug mode. I get that’s the key plot in the role reverse of man and ape. Except the few cases in the older films. However I feel in how they progressed humanities downfall feels so lack luster. In the sense everyone became stupid cause of the virus off screen. Or the last gasp of cognitive and organized humanity died in a landslide in the 2nd film. One of the things I loved about the reboot trilogy was the culture the apes created, everything was distinct from humans. Their own jewelry, body paint, music and ceremonies (check Dawn deleted scenes), and the absence of clothing meant that they are still apes. I'm glad this looks like it will continue, as it speaks volume to the world building.

What I really love about this so far is that we don't even know where this movie will be set. Even though we can see buildings, the remnants of human civilization, they've become so unrecognizable at this point because of the utter disrepair and the greenery that had thoroughly conquered it. It is another metaphor of how far humanity has fallen and how much Nature has punished humanity for trying to control it (as the Colonel so eloquently put it in War), for even its own legacy has become just as broken and primitive.
This looks to have so much potential and promise, and I hope it can live up to what Rupert Wyatt started and what Matt Reeves built upon.

I don't see it as natures punishment. Just it taking it's world back.

I absolutely loved the reboot trilogy. It is one of my favorite trilogies ever. So well made, expertly written, superbly acted, I could go on and on. Word of a sequel began soon after the first trilogy concluded and I would check often, but they were tight-lipped about it, and boom, today, out of nowhere this! SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!

First time I saw stills from this it was claimed it's a game ... which would've been ok.
