Excellent explanation! And yes, your last point about prefixes is really important. *None* of the browsers are adding new CSS using vendor prefixes anymore. Mozilla/Gecko was the first to drop them. Chrome/Blink and Safari/WebKit soon followed. None of us have added new prefixes for more than a decade - since around 2012. That's why Flexbox had prefixes, and Grid did not. Instead of prefixes, new features are created behind a flag (like `:has()` as you showed). That way developers can try them out and provide feedback, but they cannot use them on production websites. Which gives the CSS Working Group the opportunity to radically change the web standard before it ships in browsers without the utter mess that was created when Flexbox changed twice before it was final.
Anything that still requires a prefix is more than 10 years old! And slowly, one by one, the goal is for all of those to be upgraded to the web standard's version. The ones that are left are the tricky ones - for some reason there's still not yet agreement on the standard, or the standard is particularly hard to implement.
