The Story of Warcraft 3

A quick summary of the best stories from Warcraft 3. This video covers events from the base game (Reign of Chaos) and the expansion (The Frozen Throne). This video covers the events of the Third War, when the demon lord Archimonde was summoned into Azeroth.

A mysterious prophet (later revealed to be the Guardian Medivh), rallied together all who would answer the call to defeat this demonic invasion.
Thrall, the first warchief of the new Horde, heeds the prophets warning and sets sail to Kalimdor to fight the demons.
The humans of Lordaeron are too busy trying to deal with a new magical plague, and do not heed the prophet's warning. Prince Arthas is sent to investigate this plague, and discovers that the infected turn into undead scourge. When Arthas discovers an entire city full of infected people, he decides to purge the city by killing all its inhabitants. Arthas then sets off to Northrend to chase down the demons responsible for the plague. However, he discovers the sword Frostmourne, which turns out to be curse, and Arthas soon falls under the sway of the Lich King. Arthas and the Lich King reluctantly help the demons with thier invasion of Azeroth, but are secretly plotting ways to overthrow the demons...
Earlier, Arthas had killed Kel'Thuzad (the necromancer responsible for the plague), but now realised that he needed the assistance of Kel'Thuzad. The only way to resurrect Kel'Thuzad, was to use the magic of the Sunwell, deep within the lands of the high elves. Arthas and launched an attack against the high elves, taking the Lich King's undead army and marching through the lands of Quel'thalas. The path Arthas took can still be seen in World of Warcraft today, as the Dead Scar that runs up the middle of the Ghostlands and the Eversong Woods.
Silvanas Windrunner was the Ranger-General of the high elves, and she did everything in her power to hinder Arthas' assault. She antagonised Arthas - taunting him every step of the way. When Arthas eventually caught up with her, he decided a clean death would be too easy, and so he tore her soul from her body, turning her into a banshee. Silvanas was forced to obey the Lich King... However, over time, the Lich King's powers started to weaken, and the Lich King summoned Arthas to Northrend to protect the Frozen Throne. Sylvanas managed to break free to the Lich Kings control - she seized the city of Lordorean, and formed a new faction - calling themselves the Forsaken.
Jaina Proudmoore was a childhood friend of Arthas, and she disapproved of the path Arthas was taking earlier on, when he had decided to slaughter the civilians of Stratholme. Jaina heeded the warnings of the prophet and took as many people as she could and sailed to Kalimdor to fight the demons.
In Kalimdor, the prophet brought Thrall and his orcs, Jaina and her humans, and the night elves together. They combined their forces and fought against the demons who were trying to seize control of the World Tree in Mount Hyjal. Jaina and Thrall were eventually defeated and had to retreat. However, the night elves succeeded in summoning the power of nature, and thousands of wisps detonated on Archimonde and the World Tree, triggering a massive explosion which ended the demonic invasion.
When Arthas used the Sunwell to resurrect the necromancer Kel'Thuzad, it caused the Sunwell to become corrupted. The leader of high elves, Prince Kael'Thas was forced to destroy the Sunwell. This was catastrophic for the elves, who were dependant on the magic of the Sunwell. Kael'Thas set out to search for Illidan, who was rumoured to have access to demonic magic which could be used to feed the elves' addiction.
Illidan Stormrage was a night elf who had been imprisoned for 10,000 for betraying the night elves (when the original Well of Eternity was destroyed, Illidan stole some vials from the well, and in secret created a new Well of Eternity under the World Tree in Mount Hyjal - Illidan had wanted to draw upon the powers of this well as his own personal font of power). In Warcraft 3, the night elves decided to release Illidan from his prison to help fight the demonic invasion. However, Illidan very soon discovered the Skull of Gul'dan (remember - from our last video?), and consumed the powers from the skull. This demonic power made him grow demons horns and demon wings. The night elves were disgusted and banished Illidan from thier lands. Illidan fled to Outland.
On Outland, Illidan defeated the demons that resided there and seized control of the Black Temple. But the demon lord Kil'jaeden found Illidan and demanded that Illidan destroy the Lich King. Illidan was defeated by Arthas - and Arthas donned the armour of the Lich King...

Aaaahhh I still remember being a 16 year old teenager, having just purchased these games well after they had come out. And yet having a blast of a lifetime with them. Just the adventure and the characters so much fun! It's sad we will likely never see a warcraft 4 but I get it. Still Warcraft 3 was my jam back in the day, I essentially bough it with the frozen throne and jurassic park genesis in a 3 for one bundle in some game store.
