Life long organic grower here. My reason for growing these days is to create seed that are genetically more tolerant of my climate. While some perennials can survive our heatwaves with a little shade cloth and more water, plants stop growing at 104 and cells start breaking down above that. Thank you for this podcast and I hope a few more people listen. "Ministry for the Future" is actually happening.
There will come a time when it will be so hot that we will no longer be able to evaporate sweat or perspire = wet bulb temperatures, heat stroke, organ shut down. When this finally happens and it will, we will be wishing we "did something" sooner. Living beings and things are not built for this.
The disturbance of the precipitation cycles and the heat increase that has already occurred is going to stop our ability to grow enough food. Society will break when there's no food, and lots of things will kill us then, not to mentioned 440 unmanned nuclear reactor sites. We'll be gone by the time it gets really really hot.
Living in SW Florida we have the heat/humidity index . There is no relief when the index at 5:30 in the morning is 90. Outdoor workers , kids sports activities ....just simple daily outdoor chores pose a health threat . It matters !
Wow. This was incredible. Thank you for the effort that went into putting this together. I was sucked in. This was really well produced and I learned alot. You have a new subscriber
So as a public health nerd. The nearly 14 trillion spent and created to save the world, but not Africa. Cause they are the anomalous data set. So was that a good use of the world’s resources… considering.. that again according to our world in data .. it didn’t make a significant difference. Can humans manage risk in a post traumatic environment
Being a non Phoenix native and walking 20 blocks is a no brainer. I've walked from West Phoenix to Scottsdale (27th Ave/Glendale to Hayden/Indian School) with no problem. Water, proper diet and clothing along with adaptation are key.
Please explain how you know it’s been 125,000 years since it’s been as hot. You can put it in the show notes, possibl link to your references. I believe it’s true, but it’s been a while since it was explained to me. Thank you very much!
The human body can withstand outdoor temperatures of up to 160°F. This means a person can survive 120°F if they are careful and take the right safety precautions.
@DanielWatson-vv7cd It means I dare you to heat a frying pan up to 160°F and hold it in your hands for ten seconds. Better yet, heat a closet to 160°F, go inside and see how long you can survive in there 🤣😂🤣. Pro tip from a former coal drying plant, power plant boiler operator, get your affairs in order before entering a 160°F space. Oh, and PLEASE make a video so you get your Darwin award! It means you don't know WTFYATA!
i'm 79....it's been like this for the 50 + yrs. i've paid close attn.......75 yrs. ago walking on a sidewalk in midsummer would make you dizzy and disoriented...............it's easy in a heatwave to get freaked out , but this is disingenuous and misleading
