Dammmmmn! I am one of that 9%! My mom, dad, brother, and pretty much everyone in my family have the right hand as their dominant hand. (and yes, four years late, I know)
Left handers! ♡ Personally I'm overall fine with being left handed. You know, besides the fact that it's hard to adapt to right-handed items, my entire hand gets covered in ink/graphite when I write, I can't write correctly on a white/chalkboard because it just wipes off, my handwriting is smudged, I can't sit on the right side of a right-handed person, and I get constant remarks from others about the fact that I'm left-handed! Lol but the uniqueness of it doesn't bother me
true i also like it just cause i feel unique...and the not being able to sit on the right side of a right handed person is also SOO TRUE , i always have to talk with my partner and switch sides....
I use to be left-handed, for years! my early memories are of me eating and throwing with my left, due to religious reason I used my left for some things and my right almost all the time actually and it wasn't until I tried to throw with my left one day that I realized something felt terribly painful about it. I'm not sure if this is a side effect of it but, my left is always faster, reacts quicker, and when I fight always seems to defend or block whether its a punch or an object being thrown. but my right has always been stronger. I thought that this was due to me having a poor grip on my right but one day ill go see a trainer or a doctor to see what's up. weird that my left is faster, better endurance, has better grip. my right is stronger feels more stable. I can write with both but my left is better with cursive and my right is better with standard.
I am left handed and a guitar player. For me finding left handed instruments (their increased price), is by far the most annoying thing I have to deal with. But then again, I just chuckle when I see righties failing to play my left handed guitar all the time, while I can play theirs because it's just way more common. 😋
i know! both me and my brother are ambidextrous so we write in both, draw in right, and play guitar/uke with left. try to take the strings out of a right-handed guitar and putting them the opposite (sixth in first, second in fifth)
not sure if both handedness are considered, I could write on either my left or right hands, brush my teeth to both of them or even mix beverages with either of them
70% of left handed people have the speech senter on the left side, 20% have it on both and 19% have it on the right side? 70% + 20% + 19% = 109% wait.. what..? I'm confused..
I got you here.He first said most of the lefties use left side to process language 70% of the time.Meaning 30% of the time lefties use right side to do that. Then,19% of lefties use right side to process language.I guess he meant only or mostly using right side. However,I am sure they should not be using left side to process language 70% of the time because at 2:22 , you can see he used the pictures to differentiate the location(s) of Broca's Area(2:05) and also clarify his points. Therefore, you need to listen and watch to fully know what he is saying. Finally,20% of lefties use both sides to process language.Probably again, doesn't have to do with the first point he made in this video.I think here it means 20% of the lefties use right side and left side spontaneously to process language.Dunno if they can use only one side to process language or how frequently they use both sides to process language.🤔🤓
It's not what he said in the video, but regardless, he probably averaged the percentage from a couple different studies with different results, you didn't actually expect people to check every single left handed person for which side of the brain the speech center is on, did you?
Haha a lot of them ar on the streets yes eny one of can be but dont put eny one down look the way drs write and how cleaver ar thy it takes 6 years too be a dr and thy still have too learn,
GameTomCat lol I am ambidextrous at a lot of things and I am right handed at some things like throwing even though my left hand is still good and left handed at writing which I used to be ambidextrous at.
My grandfather was left handed and iirc his parents made him learn to write with his right hand. To this day he is ambidextrous. Fast forward to me being born (having been named after his father) I’m left handed and I find it hilariously ironic
With me I enjoy being left handed until someone wants me to sign a piece of paper and they hold it straight up and I have to turn it side ways to the right sign it, or else I write in a circle. ) like that. Most people are right handed they deal with so it is no problem. I crochet to and I start from the left and go to the right. It is fun.
For any left-handed people, there is a store called Lefty's and they have various items for only left-handed people and only left-handed people can work there. Their locations are San Francisco, CA, Lake Buena Vista, FL, and Kissimmee, FL. You can order their items online if you don't live in those three areas.
+Alyssa Pham i think da reason he assumed Inklish is you 2nd language becuz you have "Pham" as a surname. It's a vietnamese name. Your parent is a commie ?
I am left-handed and one day it seemed for the first time I observed my friend of some years writing with his left hand. " I didn't know you were left-handed" I said. He looked up at me and said "I've got to be". Then I remembered he lost his right arm in an accident and has a false one. Completely slipped my mind.
funny how 99 % of comments are from left handed people when right handed people are 90%. Aaand I dont think all the left handed people in the world came to see this video.
I think the reason why is because left handers(like myself) are in the minority. It's interesting to watch a video that you can relate to and comment on it. But right handed people have less of a reason to watch the video since they can't relate and don't really know what to comment about being right handed unless it's saying they're right handed to stand out among a crowd of lefties.
“Two right handed parents only have a 9% chance of having a left handed kid” Me being left handed and having two right handed parents sitting in the corner thinking I have won the lottery. 😏
No no, left has been considered many negative things because the world has always feared and demonized things that are unusual or uncommon. It's the need to control people by emphasizing the importance of obedience. Obedience and conformity are neither important or good. They are signs of weak followers who dont think for themselves.
Interesting fact: I am left-handed while my identical twin as well as the rest of my family is right-handed. That would mean that genetics can't be the only factor in left-handedness.
Not necessarily. Remember that the genetic theory doesn't say that the lack of a "right shift" mutation doesn't automatically make you left handed, it just puts it up to a "coin flip". So the genetic answer still makes sense. These are things that we have to look at in populations, not just in families!
According to Wikipedia: " _Left-handedness always occurs at a lower frequency than right-handedness. Generally, left-handedness is found within 10.8% of the overall population. However, left-handedness is more common in twins than in single individuals, occurring in 17% of people who are twins._ "
It's Okay To Be Smart Ha, yes you are right, I missed this point in the video. Had to rewatch it. Still I find it kinda interesting that twins can be quite different from eachother though they should be genetically identical. For example my brother is suffering from rheumatism at an age of 23 while I am not. And at least according to the doctors the cause of this disease is most likely also found in the genes.
***** if i'm not mistaken there's a theory that suggests identical twins are a mirror copy of each other in the womb (duh) so if your twin is right handed, you would be left because of this so called theory.
One of the (few) benefits of being ambidextrous is being able to pretend you're a lefty. In class, for example, you have the option of changing your seat if you claim your left arm always bumps into someone else's right, or vise versa.
You make it sound like you can write reasonably well with both hands. Do you prefer one hand over the other, and is your handwriting noticeably different when you write with the other hand? I'm just curious.
Were you born with good use of both hands, or did you start out with one dominant hand, then teach the non-dominant hand to write and do other tasks. Sorry if that's a stupid question, but in the video he said it may or may not be genetic, so I'm not sure : >
Shangori Do all ambidextrous people have preferences? I've never been able to figure out what to tell people about my handedness. I was taught to write right handed, so I write with my right hand today. I prefer to use my left hand when given a choice, and I do many things better with my left (pretty much anything not writing or designed for right handed use). I sometime jokingly refer to myself as a "well adjusted lefty" since I have almost none of the issues most lefties have (pencil marks on their hands, hard time finding scissors, etc).
_Writing With My Left Hand_ *Q: Wow, how do you write with your left hand?* A: Well, how do you write with your right hand? *Q: You're left-handed?* A: ...Nooo, I just do this because I love people asking about me being left-handed. I'm just using my left hand for laughs. *Q: Is it bad being left-handed?* A: No, it's alright except for... ~Proceeds to list every downside of being left-handed~ *Q: Oh, so what's good about it?* A: ~Fails to think of a response~
I'm weird because I'm apparently something called "cross-dominant." I write and eat with my left hand (I also instinctually put jewelry on my right hand as most left-handers do), but play I sports and carry things with my right hand, and in general my left side is weaker with better fine motor skills, while my right side is stronger and has more precise gross motor skills.
Supposedly, I’m “cross handed”. I naturally do most skills with my left hand, but with sports and in a couple other areas, I naturally use my right. When trying a new skill, I simply try both ways and see which “handed” I am for that particular skill. Though, since most of us lefties have had to adapt so often, there are things that I naturally WOULD have done left, but they are easier in life if you do it right handed (drums, guitar, sign language), so I adapted. It takes me a little longer initially to develop the skill, but now, I could NEVER play a left-handed guitar, or flip my drum kit around. Oh, and no other lefties in our family for generations. Just me. 😊
Like I said in my comment above, my ex and I had four children. 2 are left-handed. Both of us are right-handed. So I guess it’s even MORE of an unusual statistical or genetic anomaly that half of our kids are lefties, isn’t it?
*I'm on a cafe and I see a guest book,* me: *writes something in the guestbook* lady behind me: "OMG you are left handed??? I have a neighbors, cousins, grandmas, dogwalkers, aunts, classmate that's lefthanded!" me: "Just let me live my life"

If that lady was real she would probably be a stalker like who knows about their neighbour's cousin's grandma's dog walker's aunt's classmate's preferred hand
I actually really like being left handed. It is frustrating that there are so many right-handed tools etc but, in a way it's kind of "enjoyable" to do something differently to most people :)
can i just say this? i'm in love with the fucking intro. that music and visuals... i could watch it forever. it's just so fucking awesome. never change it
Being a Lefty... I've adapted well to "regular" stuff...scissors, spiral notebooks and similar things... But i hated those one sided tables in school so so so much!!! It slows us down and is highly uncomfortable... 😅 😅
Wait what? I was taught in biology that left-handeness was based on chromosomes. That because it is reccessive, only a person who is homozygous recessive for the gene (i.e. received a left-handed chromosome from each parent) would show the trait, hence why it is more rare. Is this wrong? If so, why is this the general consensus in schools? Has everything I've been taught been a lie? :(
luis sanchez palacios The records of such a culling would have been found by now. No, like my grandmother did to my father, and like my uncle's mother did to him they just forced them to be "right" handed. My kindergarten teacher tried to do it to me too.

My grandparents used to nag my mum to put my pencils in my right hand, but my mum didn't mind that I was left handed. I'm extremely artistic, introverted & generally smarter than other people. I like to think there's a connection there. Oh! Also... Suck on that, Hitler!
"WOOWW You're left-handed??!!" and "That means you're smarter than everyone!!" Are the two most repeated questions I've been asked in my life. I just want to sigh when I hear someone ask me if I'm left-handed. It's not something I think about all the time, it's just the way it is.🤷🏽♀️
***** Penguins vs polar bears....one is strong, the other's adorable...I'd say it's an even match :P Besides, silly, your left hand is not always facing south! :P
My grandfather once told me a story in which he was burtaly hit with the classic teacher stick for being left handed and was forced to write with his right hand for his whole school life.
Kermit The Toad omg me!! even tho i dont need to bc im ambidextrous, but when i choose to write with my left hand i have to do that, especially at school 😒😂💀
That concludes that you are a righty because your right hand dominates what quantities of things you can do with your left because 1 thing you can do is left but on a scale what is dominate 1 or 1 trillion
Stanley Paipuke No, being left handed has more advantages than disadvantages despite the world being dominated by stuff created for right handed people. Our brains are said to be working differently and the connection between both sides of the brain works faster, and when it comes to sports we have the biggest advantage there is.
I love being Left handed! I was told growing up it was a handi cap, we die 3 years earlier all kind of crap. It makes me unique and not to mention it gave me favor in sports and even when I got in fights when I was younger. They never see the left hand...
Why is it that more left-handed people are creative? I was born with a disability so I’ll never know if I was supposed to be left-handed or not, however my dad is left-handed, but he’s not all that creative where is either because of my disability or because I’m left-handed I am extremely creative in multiple different aspects of my life!
Best place I've ever been to was this store in San Fran that only had left-handed stuff. Sadly, I was on vacation there and can't just go back whenever I feel like it, but I got a sticker now, so that's pretty cool.
Most people are right-handed.....I feel like part of it could be centuries of human culture just preferring right handedness. I spent part of my childhood in China where, just decades ago, left-handed kids were disciplined (often with harsh physical methods like slapping) into using their right hands more often, because apparently left handedness means you are uncultured or something. My grandpa was left-handed as a child, but was forced by his mother to become right handed. It only succeeded partially and he became ambidextrous. And of course, you can see that in Western countries too back in the day, with the words mentioned by this video as the most significant relic left by those times.
1:32 Ah the etymology of regal is completely separate from right, it’s just a coincidence. Regal comes from latin “rex” which come from PIE *reks-, a completely separate root to *reǵ- or any word having to do with “right”

I can't play most sports because they say "what's your dominant hand" and I'm like, well it depends. Table tennis my left hand is more dominant but for throwing things like in beer pong my right hand is better. 🤷🏽♀️
Fun fact: Birds are one of the few animals (besides humans) who display a marked preference in handedness. Over 95% of all birds in the word are left-handed; or I suppose you could say "left-footed" since we're talking about their talons and not wings. Go up to a tame bird and get it to step up on your finger, and it'll almost always use its left foot to do so.

When your left: writing like a human being
Class: OH MY GOD DOES THAT HURT?
Me: wtf this is how I write.
You’re*
There are like 10 people in my grade left handed? I’m left handed and I know soo many people that are
It’s not writing like a human being, it’s writing how left handed people wright.
I always get pen ink on my hand
I am left handed and a guitar player. For me finding left handed instruments (their increased price), is by far the most annoying thing I have to deal with. But then again, I just chuckle when I see righties failing to play my left handed guitar all the time, while I can play theirs because it's just way more common. 😋
i know! both me and my brother are ambidextrous so we write in both, draw in right, and play guitar/uke with left.
try to take the strings out of a right-handed guitar and putting them the opposite (sixth in first, second in fifth)
At my school there's no left handed base guitars when the only music teacher in the school is left handed - I know it's really ironic
I'm a lefty.
No one cares, it's just a fucking hand
Why do you assume I'm right handed? I'm ambidextrous it wouldn't matter that much.

We were taught how to write with out right hand in schools and at home because we live in a right handed world
70% of left handed people have the speech senter on the left side, 20% have it on both and 19% have it on the right side?
70% + 20% + 19% = 109%
wait.. what..?
I'm confused..
Me too... I’ll re watch the video later...
It's not 70%, it's 61%
@@javindhillon6294 That's not what the video said.
2:22

True. You're forgetting about ambidextrous people like me.

According to Wikipedia:
" _Left-handedness always occurs at a lower frequency than right-handedness. Generally, left-handedness is found within 10.8% of the overall population. However, left-handedness is more common in twins than in single individuals, occurring in 17% of people who are twins._ "
You're just possessed
It's Okay To Be Smart Ha, yes you are right, I missed this point in the video. Had to rewatch it. Still I find it kinda interesting that twins can be quite different from eachother though they should be genetically identical. For example my brother is suffering from rheumatism at an age of 23 while I am not. And at least according to the doctors the cause of this disease is most likely also found in the genes.
***** if i'm not mistaken there's a theory that suggests identical twins are a mirror copy of each other in the womb (duh) so if your twin is right handed, you would be left because of this so called theory.
"What!! YOUR LEFT HAND-"
*Punches classmate in the face*
One of the (few) benefits of being ambidextrous is being able to pretend you're a lefty. In class, for example, you have the option of changing your seat if you claim your left arm always bumps into someone else's right, or vise versa.
You don't have preferences? While being ambidextrous, I do prefer doing certain things with either my left or right side.
Yeah we all have a preferred hand for certain things ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

*Q: Is it bad being left-handed?*
A: No, it's alright except for... ~Proceeds to list every downside of being left-handed~
*Q: Oh, so what's good about it?*
A: ~Fails to think of a response~
Response people ask me if im left handed
Haha, the only benefit it has is that we are special.😂😂✌🏻
Just me. 😊

Is that taught in a lot of schools? Left-handedness almost certainly has a genetic component, but it's not that simple

But WHY I HOLD BADMINTON RACKET WITH RIGHT HAND
Honestly, I just noticed I use a Badminton Racket with my right hand, but I’m a leftie. ✌️
I have the same, but when I play golf I play again with my left hand, it's really weird...
Same
I can't play most sports because they say "what's your dominant hand" and I'm like, well it depends. Table tennis my left hand is more dominant but for throwing things like in beer pong my right hand is better. 🤷🏽♀️
If you’re a lefty in badminton get ready to have smashes like Lin Dan
Being left handed is a good thingWe are awesome and unique Making fun of us is like making fun of urself We are normal and soon will rule the world
Yeah it's not realy common to be left so we are rare I think

Using your other hand is not unique xD
Also, many of USA presidents are left handed, like Barack Obama and I think Roosevelt?
I am left handed :-:
Fun fact: Birds are one of the few animals (besides humans) who display a marked preference in handedness. Over 95% of all birds in the word are left-handed; or I suppose you could say "left-footed" since we're talking about their talons and not wings. Go up to a tame bird and get it to step up on your finger, and it'll almost always use its left foot to do so.
