i like that yall didnt edit out the thinking phase. thats an important step to making sure you are confident in what you want. also i agree its better to have it look like it got knocked down in a storm.
Great instructional video. Thanks Jerome. As much as I enjoy watching you work on your more established trees it’s really helpful to view videos like this. Thanks
Great instructional video mate. Here in Australia we can get away with doing it in any season, depending where you live. I have a small forest of Ficus Figs that I inadvertently obtained by sticking in branches of the Ficus Fig in a pot whilst pruning. I may try this on them.
Thanks for another great instructional video. Love the "blown-over" position for its dramatic effect. As a bonsai "newbie" . You give me courage to grow my abilities.
Thanks for the video!! Do you think it’s possible to make such an arrangement with a rock and bury it under the soil in a deep pot so that it grows over it? I live somewhere very hot and dry, no moss grows here and my bonsai is a buttonwood.
I went to the keys in Florida and I went to a beach when it was low tide and I saw and took many nice and big rocks for bonsais. Ima have to wash them tho cuz they probably salty
Fennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntttaaaaastikkkkkkkkkkkk Mate , can I know why is the water connected to each Bonsai in the back , & the water overflowing ...... Thank you .
I see at the end of video you have some small ponytail palms. I have one that is 4 foot and it keeps growing babies out of the trunk,I cut them and try to grow in cactus soil . Is this the proper way to do that to get more?
Justin Brown hey Justin, it depends on the species in terms of how long you should Leave the moss on and how moist. If it is an elm, they like it fairly moist. Keep in mind the longer you keep the moss the better roots you will have. One year at least
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply it's a persian silk (mimosa) the plant I have grown from a seed it's about 5 years, I have done some small root trims on them over the years, untangled the roots every other year, the roots were about 4 feet lol some already were sticking out of the pot and had naturally dried and started barking, those I wrapped around the rock almost completely, then there was several other long ones that I dropped down the sides of the rock into about 3 inches of dirt and clay, stone soil
I've never Bonsai'ed before. (is that a word?) But, I certainly learned by watching the process. GREAT explanation along the way and loved how you considered the story line of a possible storm blowing the tree against the rock! It was a dark stormy night...... BRAVO!!
Hi Adela, It really depends on climate and soil media. If you use our soil you can water daily during the growing season. thebonsaisupply.com/collections/bonsai-soil
I do the same with bonsai where i have to picture a "story" in my mind of how it would have grown like that in full scale in the wild. it's more artistic than following strict bonsai style techniques
The roots are touching the soil, that is how it gets its nutrients. Trees absorb nutrients and water through their roots, but is through their leaves which is the process by which trees create their fuel
I'd love to see more videos on other types of trees using this technique. Could it be used on a Cyprus Hinoki? I have a small one, about a year old; how many years should I wait to apply this technique if I could do so?
Hey Justin, this tree sold immediately after the video came out as many of our trees do. One of my employees did a home visit at the owners home and said it has grown a lot. Ill try to get a picture next time and show the update.
awesome. I found an incredible location for root over rock - rocks how would you suggest I sell my rocks to others. Amazing limestone rocks with great cavities and weathering.
Would you please publish a quick update of this root over rock project ? I think after 2 years, this must have evolved quite interestingly.
Thanks Jerome for this video 🎥🎥🎥

Brilliant and very informative....thanks for sharing.
I bought a bonsai that apparently is ready to be planted on a rock. It’s got some type of cloth on it right now. I hope it works. Much appreciated
That sounds like burlap which can be used to do root over rock. Make sure you don't remove it too early.

Hello Jerome, can you post an update on this tree?
I notice a couple cables going inside the trees on the background, are those a pair of “sensors”and auto watering mechanism ?
Great Bonsai♥️♥️♥️♥️
I find use saran wrap works great to not only hold the tree to the rock, but also to hold the moisture in the soil.
Jaclyn Soileau that’s a good method, you can also burry the rock.
Love this. Never tried root over rock, but come spring here in the UK it is definite project for me to attempt if I can find the right rock.
Jerome your videos are great. Informative and entertaining! Thank you very much for them!
Thank you Stepan for enjoying them and your feedback!
Plzz tell me what is name of this rock
Please I need some clay bonsai pots . I didnt getting it in india. I need landscape bonsai pots. Where can I get it please.🥺🥺

Thanks Jerome. I will learn your way to do with my the ficus. :)
Đại Lâm Mộc Ficus do great with this technique 🌳🙌 Great choice!
I usually plant the tree and the rock into a deep container and expose the root gradually. So I am curiously looking for updates on this one. Thanks!
Hey Basti, I like to do the same especially on trees that don't attach to the rock easy like a buttonwood for instance!
Any update about this? Thanks 😊
Hi, this tree sold shortly after the video came out. I saw it recently and it is doing great!
What sort of moss do you use?
I like it...
I see at the end of video you have some small ponytail palms. I have one that is 4 foot and it keeps growing babies out of the trunk,I cut them and try to grow in cactus soil . Is this the proper way to do that to get more?
Yes, Spring is usually the best time to do that.

Thank you very much Kolli
How often you need to water it.
Hi Adela, It really depends on climate and soil media. If you use our soil you can water daily during the growing season.

I’m going to attempt a root over rock with a Monstera delicosa plant 😬😀
6:46 what would you recommend for evergreen trees?
just wondering how the tree ends up after romoval of the moss? does it take a year or more before it can grow without the moss? looks great btw
Hi, it depends on specie and climate but the moss was removed about a year after and it was growing well on its own.
So young but sooooo skilled, wooow
Could you share an update when the try is approx 1 year in training?
Great tree btw!
Like now :)
Good job!
Does this tree still survives. Please show.
Yes, it is still alive and has found a new home
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Can you please make a video update, if the new owner allows? I would really like to copy this. Thanks and more power to you.
