Hope you're all going to enjoy this series, we had a ridiculous amount of fun playing... well, mostly learning xD Who could have guessed putting two newbies in command of an entire aircraft carrier would lead to shenanigans?!
Super glad I stumbled on this.
Lovely, a 2-4 player Carrier Command 2 is a great play through for me to see. I beat it alone because I have no friends who wanted to play it, but I could surely see how much fun it would be in a small group.

Same here, etalyx still has a high nostalgia factor for me.
He was by far my favorite youtuber.
No one matched his unique style of video making.
His old intro is stil enough to make me quiet.
19:15 It is ininteresting to realise that there's a good reason a captain gives a heading one digit at a time; it takes longer to figure out the exact heading, and the navigator can in the meanwhile aim towards the partial heading.
In Barotrauma we made the least leader-like person our captain, and that really made us aware of the benefits of quick, clear communication!
"There's a fire!"
When asked where; "In the ... uh ... front of the sub."
When asked on which level; "Uh .. ah ... um ... hold on ... the middle."
So I went back to the ladder, down one level, rushed to the front and ... nothing. So I told him and he answered "Oh. Uh. The top level?".
So I run all the way back to the ladder, go up to the level I was originally on, rushed to the front of tne ship and find no fire, but evidence of a fire. It was kinda hard to tell what with the flood of water washing me down to the back of the sub. Water filled with Mudraptors.
Use the ingame icon thingies help a much more than you Think...
I use It combo with Voice warns:
Fire! Then I proceed to Point which compartment..
Things get sketchy If you have intruders on sub thou . Crewmates getting husked or invading Fauna from major Breaches.
I Only say : Intruders on sub!
Then everyone gets Guns and start patrolling around. The First to spot something warns the entire crew
@@Terraqueo22 Yeah, I love the icons. It is a great system. I have not used them much yet, but normally I would be the leader person in the group.
But it is neat to see how having these good supportive systems being completely useless in the hands of a chaotic leader. :)
It's like bug testing/QA, I guess.
The carrier can go like 70 knots or more, which is how fast a speed boat might go. Also when the water is calm you guys got up to like 90 knots at some point.

So for the airplanes taking off into the wind thing:
A plane's wing produces lift when air flows over it, which during normal circumstances would be when the plane is moving. But if there's wind, that can also provide the same airflow, which would in turn produce lift. Couple this with the plane's engine and it'll produce lift more efficiently than if you JUST used the engine of the plane.
i love this game, dont see many people playing it on youtube these days though. glad this showed up in my recommended section!

Anecdote: For all my play-throughs I ran the engine at nothing other than 100% at all time in all conditions and there was no ill effect. The engines were never damaged, never overheated. Annoyingly, the engine management gauges appear to be just for show.
I haven't played for a year so who knows if things have changed in the meantime, but even if they have then if the engines take damage then they not only will you be notified and can act accordingly, but the damage will be automatically repaired.
All this to say: FULL STEAM AHEAD, HELMSMAN!
Additionally, speed and violence of action is paramount to stay ahead of of the enemy carrier. "Doing it legit" and trying to crest waves and keep the engine out of the red is strictly sub optimal.
You actually do need to be careful when launching or retrieving vehicles, as they can, and do fail to launch and land, especially on rough seas. Wind doesn't matter that much though. I'm not sure how much the carrier's speed affects this, but perhaps that's more what the red line is telling us here.
i think red lining the engine the whole time actually makes you use more fuel.
@@holy-ordos Tested that. I got farther red lining. There are a lot of variables at play and it's hard to get a clean test, but it wasn't that drastic.

probably a bit late, but anyway...
the carrier provides enough power to aprox supply the engine at full throttle +1 additional system (usually the radar)
weapons and radar drain power by simply being online, the remaining draw only when actually used.
if you over extend your power, the systems will just work with reduced efficiency
also, the engine will never overheat, and you can go at full speed as long as you like
Yes. A beam-on (from the sides) sea is generally a bad idea.

Oh nooo pleaseeeeee stop wasting 160mm shells. They are hard to come by, and the only reliable weapon against some defensive emplacements. Use your IR missiles or jeeps.
I can't recommend supporting the developer. Geometa does really buggy work, never tests releases, and they don't give a damn about their players. I have no idea how they're still in business.
